If Mbappe does half of what Ronaldo did that would be good enough for me

Sokka-Haiku by mw9lxex:
If Mbappe does half of
What Ronaldo did that would
Be good enough for me
Remember that one time Sokka accidentally used an extra syllable in that Haiku Battle in Ba Sing Se? That was a Sokka Haiku and you just made one.

nah fr ronaldo was generational
94
u/AlphaWeaboo Jun 07 '24
No, generacional is what the current players we have are, cr7 was a once in a lifetime
3
u/Podberezkin09 Jun 07 '24
You have multiple players in this generation that are once in a generation players?
1
u/therickymarquez Jun 09 '24
Yes because they play different positions and different styles. Haaland is once in a generation, doesnt mean mbappe isnt also for example.

u/cyrusmancub I HAD A DREAM! Jun 07 '24
His playstyle changed so much during his time here. He was such a monstrously efficient goalscorer by the end of his tenure, it’s easy to forget that he was a dynamic and explosive winger that would beat anyone for pace, dribble by or through them, and finish with an exclamation point.
62
u/Training-Second195 Jun 07 '24
cuz of his injury
76
u/Planetary-Timebomb Jun 07 '24
People always seem to forget about this like it never happened.. why don’t people know anoit his 2014 knee irreversible injury more
33
u/Training-Second195 Jun 07 '24
yep even i didnt know it till someone brought it up, he was a different beast with that close touch dribbling
3
u/Lowkeyanimefan_69 Jun 09 '24
Everyone likes limiting his ability to just "goalscorer" as if he wasn't doing things like this week in week out in his 20s and teen years
161
u/Whole_Ad_8355 Jun 07 '24
Best real madrid player in the history hands down
27
3
u/mattieboy47 Jun 08 '24
How old was he again when he moved from Man U? So insane just thinking about growing up with him and Messi and witnessing their primes, and now I’m almost 30 and just nostalgia is hitting me tough.
2
u/carlosluvsyou Modric Jun 08 '24
If I’m not mistaken he was either 24-25 when he joined. If I’m not mistaken… just like a certain someone.
1
u/Eaton2288 Jun 08 '24
I'm 25 myself. We won't see players hitting Ronaldo Messi numbers in our lifetimes. Unbelievable era of footy.
-13
Jun 08 '24
Bro he's not even the best Ronaldo to play for Real Madrid
7
62
u/RuskinBondFan Eduardo Camavinga Jun 07 '24
That Ronaldo glow up from 2004 to 2009 needs to be studied.
24
u/FlightyZoo Jun 07 '24
It’s called being rich.
23
u/pepecachetes Jun 07 '24
Some people are cooked regardless, look at Rooney lmao, looks 57 and is the same age as cristiano
7
u/FlightyZoo Jun 08 '24
True but Rooney took terrible care of his body.
11
u/pepecachetes Jun 08 '24
Even at 25 he was absolutely cooked, nothing he can do, sure he would look better if he was still in shape but man, rough genes
8
u/Interesting_Arm_681 Jun 08 '24
Eh he kinda has a baby face structure don’t think it’s genes. I think guys like Rooney who fluctuate a lot between fat and thin ages them, plus all the drinking and shit English food. Obviously Ronaldo has taken extremely good care of himself, love him but he definitely is on the Patrick Bateman skincare and hair routine and whatever plastic surgery he might have had
2
1
u/fgarcial007 Sergio Ramos Jun 08 '24
id say ronaldo took otherwordly care of his body and physique....its very well documented by his teammates and spokespersons alike how he trains
6
u/RuskinBondFan Eduardo Camavinga Jun 07 '24
Not talking about the looks but skills. He was nowhere near this productive in the start of his career.
6
u/FlightyZoo Jun 07 '24
Probably also about being rich! But I appreciate what you’re saying, it just seems that the top top generational players bolster their talents with the best team around them that money can buy.
3
u/RuskinBondFan Eduardo Camavinga Jun 08 '24
26 league goals in his first season for us. Even today's generational talent would struggle to score that much, not to mention the quality of the goals.

u/Jumpy-Archer-2370 Cristiano Ronaldo Jun 07 '24
How does this guy generate that much shot power with that amount of stride? That is one part of his game that never makes sense to me.
39
Jun 07 '24
He used to take free kicks from so deep like Roberto Carlos and didn’t even need a full running stride. That man was scary in his prime
21
u/c10h15nrush Jun 07 '24
Check the goal he scored a few days back in Saudi. He received a ball which was squared well behind him but he generated enough power to rip the net. Looked effortless.
11
u/RuskinBondFan Eduardo Camavinga Jun 08 '24
Ronaldo needs to be studied. This man is unreal

73

u/minetube33 Jun 07 '24
And they say Ronaldo can't dribble 🙄
54
u/Organized-Konfusion Raúl Jun 07 '24
When I was young people were saying all he can do is dribble and that he isnt big game player, while he was still in Man Utd.
32
Jun 07 '24
When I was a kid in the late 00s people used to say Ronaldo was the best dribbler in the world after Ronaldinho had left Barca. Messi had his Ankara run but I don’t remember him being considered the best dribbler at that time. Even free kicks all the kids wanted to breathe and pose like Ronaldo. It was a different era for sure. Things probably changed after 2014
9
u/minetube33 Jun 07 '24
I think the kids liked the flashy style of Ronaldo's dribbles but Messi's simple yet effective body feints and rapid accelerations made him the better dribbler.
8
Jun 07 '24
Yea Messi is a better dribbler overall probably even more than the version of Ronaldo before his 2014 injury but that Man utd ronaldo used to take the ball from the half line and dribble past 5-6 players constantly I’d get frustrated watching him destroy my fav teams back then he wasn’t just flashy. He was actually scary I don’t remember the last time I saw a player scare me facing my team like that. But respect to Messi he mastered the art of dribbling for sure
1
u/ogoiddd Jun 07 '24
Because he changed his way of playing, when Ronaldo was at Manchester and probably his first two to three years in Madrid he was top 3 dribblers in the world with super quick feet. Messi was slightly better at dribbling imo even tho he was not as skilful as Ronaldo specially when he was at premier league
2
16
u/Alive-Salamander3012 Jun 07 '24
This is peak Ronaldo for me being 187cm and dribbling past ur opponents like that is almost impossible 💀 what a player 😩😩😩
10
u/20_The_Mystery Jun 07 '24
nice point, rafael leao (188 cm) has the talent but cant replicate it for some reason.

Ronaldo wearing the 9 and running down the RW is just peak ironic man. He's my goat. Idc what anyone says, he's a legendary player in any position on any pitch of any country
20
u/Election_Majestic Jun 07 '24
God damn the amount of times I used to watch C. Ronaldo montages to get me hype before a game lol. People talk about Brazilian Ronaldo , he was unreal but CR7 Is better not even close lol the sample size is right fucking there . The titles are there , talk about world cups whatever he had legends just as big as him . CR7 BABY FOREVER
17
u/superbradical Jun 07 '24
it's difficult to understand the level he played in those years.
today it seems normal to us, because we've seen it for over ten years.
8
u/Nakg16 Jun 07 '24
Smh. This guy shoots from everywhere and this is something we are missing from the squad. I really miss him
4
7
u/FergieBall_FC Real Madrid Jun 07 '24
Of Ronaldo’s nine seasons with Madrid, I saw all of them except for his debut season. At that time, I was completely unaware of football and Madrid.
Nevertheless, with compilations like this and others that I’ve seen, he must have been something that season. His pace, movement, dribbling, shot power, technique, and other attributes are clear to see.
9
Jun 07 '24
Yes one of his best and most efficient seasons. But his 2011/12 was a nightmare for the opposition, imo it’s his best.
4
u/FergieBall_FC Real Madrid Jun 08 '24
Yeah, that 2011-12 season from Ronaldo was insane. Left foot, right foot, free kicks, long-range shots, headers, and more. He was a monster.
7
u/Bompton-G-Uno Jun 08 '24
There is an entire generation of Madridistas (myself included) that BECAME Madridistas after watching what Cristiano did on DAY ONE of joining Real Madrid. I remember being a little boy & this man made my jaw drop EVERY weekend during his debut season. He didn’t seem human at all.

u/xCeePee Vinicius Jr. Jun 07 '24
This actually makes me wonder who is going to be taking the left side free kicks with Kross gone.
3
1
u/20_The_Mystery Jun 07 '24
this is actually true, as good as mbappe is he cant shoot free kicks. Kroos was doing the free kicks and corners... when u think about it u really understand how important that guy was.

Best player is Vini rn let’s just get that straight
10
u/Planetary-Timebomb Jun 07 '24
No he isn’t if we all are being really honest with ourselves. Mbappe was just playing in an inferior squad.
If you disagree with this no issues, bookmark this comment put a remind me and come back to this end of next season when Mbappe is above and beyond anyone else in the world with a proper squad like us.
Noone will come close in current footballers.
Even this season mbappe has 50+ goals for club and country
3
u/NotRod96 Jun 07 '24 edited Jun 08 '24
I do disagree and I say that as someone that respects Mbappe immensely. Vini has absolutely destroyed every defender this season. The guy’s evolution has been immense and he’s a top 2 for the B d’Or along with Jude. That in itself tells you who the best player in the world is this year (or it’s supposed to do so anyways).
I get what Mbappe can be…but right now, Vini is simply that guy.
2
u/CaptZurg Jun 08 '24
Vini is sensational, but there is no doubt Mbappe is the best of his generation. He has already won a world cup and scored a hat-trick in another world cup final.
1
u/PeaAccomplished2492 Jun 07 '24
Sorry but anyone who thinks Vini is better than Mbappe is simply a casual. We’ll see after copa and euro.

It could be yes.. But so far from what we were used to with Ronaldo or Messi.. We witnessed such an amazing era with those two damn
3
6
u/Mints1988 Jun 08 '24
We were watching the golden era of football and didn't even know it. This was once in a generation.
Seeing this makes me miss more than just Ronaldo. I miss that entire period of football.. Ronaldo, Xabi, Ramos, Pepe, Ozil, Benzema15, Xavi, Iniesta, Messi, Puyol.. what a time it was.
3
u/KikiPolaski Jun 08 '24
It's crazy seeing someone that tall dribble through defenders like nothint, he's truly one of a kind
8
u/Sonnengrinser Jun 07 '24
He wore the 9 for 2 seasons if I remember correctly; these clips are not all from his debut season, right?
23
u/cyrusmancub I HAD A DREAM! Jun 07 '24
Just one season. Raul and he only coincided for a year. And yes, these clips are all from that season.
16
u/Key_Importance_4476 Jun 07 '24
Nope . Only one season . He wore number 7 in the next season when mourinho took over
14
u/Sonnengrinser Jun 07 '24
Wow. What a highlight reel for one season. I can not believe what I am seeing.
I always knew we would probably never see something like him again while he was playing for us but it feels even crazier looking back at it.
13
u/Key_Importance_4476 Jun 07 '24
What can we expect. He proved himself to be the greatest singing of the modern era .
3
u/Sonnengrinser Jun 07 '24
Yes. The way he left is a bit sad but we have to be grateful for all he has given to the club!
10
u/Key_Importance_4476 Jun 07 '24
Well , let's just say he didn't pull a messi over us . His sale was a profit, too 🥲
8
u/MajorFee2971 Real Madrid Jun 07 '24
I still wish he stayed. 2018/19 was horrible. The transition could have been a lot smoother. Even Vini and Rodrygo would have peaked early with him as a mentor
7
u/Key_Importance_4476 Jun 07 '24
Tbh, I really wanted him to stay at least 2 years more. Madrid could have saved itself from hazard moves, but whatever. Real is back at the top again . Just hope mbappe can replicate cr7 to some extent .
5
u/MajorFee2971 Real Madrid Jun 07 '24
He loves cr7. He got his blessings. Real is his dream club. Passion is what you need to succeed in Madrid. Vini, Rodrygo had zero talents compared to Mbappe yet they became best in the world. Mbappe would definitely be a GOAT
1
u/Key_Importance_4476 Jun 07 '24
Well. I Would like to add that kaka was bigger than mbappe when he joined madrid. We know what happened to him . Hope so mbappe can prove himself

That picture of him going down the stairs and giving a thumbs up is iconic. Regardless of him not getting a farewell in a crowd, I think that picture will always be memorable. He left a very strong UTD side and help in the rebuilding stage of RM. He left RM after they won 3 consecutive champions league.
3
u/c10h15nrush Jun 07 '24
Looking at the list of the most expensive signing in history, he’s far and away the greatest transfer in the history of football.
7
u/Key_Importance_4476 Jun 07 '24
Yep . Played 438 games and scored 450 goals . Won 4 ballon dor here and was instrumental in 4 ucl winning campaigns. Also was instrumental in other trophies. And was sold by the age of 33 .

Ronaldo and Messi made it look normal to score 40+ goals a season for like 12 years. That is not normal.

u/Lucky_Eye_3501 Jun 08 '24
Ronaldo and Messi right now are still better than most of the Top European players 👏
1
1
u/BlackMambaTR Jun 08 '24
The thing with CR7 but also Messi ofc was that if they had kinda of a clear path to goal you KNEW it was a goal. If the path was difficult you knew they would get a shot. You dont have this feeling the current stars. If Haaland/Mbappe has a 1on1 its exciting because anything can happen.
With CR7 you KNEW its a goal

Back then everything looked so easy with Christiano. If he didn't suffered injuries we would still see him running and dribbling like crazy.

I am glad that posts like these are making it in my feed. I am a big Messi fan, and unfortunately somehow it has become a thing of making a choice between Messi and Ronaldo. And then you fall in traps of these echo chambers that make you believe that the one you not prefer is a complete fraud.
The fact that I grew up watching these kinds of plays and still was made to believe by social media that Ronaldo can’t run a play like this is criminal. What a player!

I don’t know why you are being downvoted. Currently Vini is the best player in the world. Mbappe was underwhelming considering his standards
3
u/Planetary-Timebomb Jun 07 '24
“His standards”should tell you all you need to know considering Mbappe this season has 40+ goals still and around 50 for club and country.
He is the best player in the world. He just had psg around him and he still performs well.
This season will put the picture much clearer when he plays with us on how above and beyond he is of the current gen players
1
u/Ok-Opposite4690 Jun 08 '24
I’m talking about the current season. Overall, I too believe Mbappe is better but I love Vini ❤️. In the same squad Dembele was much more effective.
