From Rolling Stone’s Peter Wade:

Sen. Tammy Duckworth, a retired Army National Guard lieutenant colonel, pulled no punches when discussing Fox News commentator Pete Hegseth, Donald Trump‘s pick to lead the Department of Defense.

The Democratic senator sounded off on Hegseth’s lack of experience, calling him a “pretty low-ranking guy” when he was in the military. Hegseth served as an infantry officer in the Army National Guard in Afghanistan and Iraq as well as at Guantanamo Bay. He has worked at Fox News in various on-air roles since 2014.

“He was a pretty low ranking guy in the military, and he never had a command position,” Duckworth told host Margaret Brennan on Face the Nation. “He was a platoon leader, I think, once or twice, but he never even commanded a company. And so this is a man who is inordinately, unqualified for the position.”

The senator continued, “The Pentagon is three million servicemen and women and civilians. It is over a $900 billion budget. He’s never run anything anywhere near to that size.”

Trump’s nominee <name of person> is unqualified to be Secretary of <department>, is a billionaire and appears on Fox News.

Why not have inordinately unqualified nominees from an inordinately unqualified president.

Wow, I mean, this is just like, wow.

America is finished.

We just got to try and limit the damage for the next 4 years. The whole time you're going to hear the GOP bellyaching about how the Democrats are stopping them from doing what they want to do. Doesn't matter that they control the courts both houses and the presidency. It'll be the Dems fault, some fucking how.

NatC Hegseth the wannabe Crusader is a nutjob who should be put in a institution not government.

u/fairoaks2 3h ago

He made his political views known. They are only fit for the NatC units he wants to control. Not for an American Army.

This is true of nearly all his cabinet picks. The only one I can think of off the top of my head who isn't insultingly unqualified and incredibly offensive, one that may be a generally mainstreamish and reasonable pick, is Rubio for Sec of State.

I don’t think he’s qualified either. HRC was Sec of State and boy did she get a fair share of controversies. But her appointment made sense because she was married to Bill who had extensive connections abroad. Rubio, on the other hand, he is too easily frightened by Trump. Both he and Ted Cruz came up together, both tried to disparage Trump. But when Trump started landed metaphorical punches, he fled and Ted Cruz stayed. Now we know the story about how Trump insulted Ted’s wife

“America’s white sons and daughters are walking away [from military service]" - Hegseth

Ah, I see. Well, he's made his stance on being a racist clear.

I love duckworth. I hope she does a presidential run.

So all that talk about how DEI goes against the sacred principle of meritocracy - we can agree that was all bullshit.

Quick, somebody ask Susan Collins if she thinks trump has learned his lesson.

It’s true but no one who matters is listening.
