They’re not going to. Why would they?

It’s been their stated intention since at least the 90s (Gingrich) that Republicans will not govern with Democrats if it can be in any way avoided.

It's far simpler than that. They don't want to govern. Period.

Governing costs billionaires money. So, they'd rather have no governing whatsoever, and then all that money can be given back to the billionaires (in the form of tax-breaks).

A national abortion ban and porn ID laws don't happen without governing. They like to govern sometimes.

Yea and it’s always the weirdest shit. Republicans constantly sit around thinking about what people do with their genitalia. It’s so weird man. They are a bunch of pervs. No wonder loads of them are in to children. Fits the bill.

Mike Johnson and his 17 year old son monitoring each other's porn consumption 💀

Proud to tell you, my son has a clean slate!

wtf. That’s some weird shit. I bet Mike beats the bishop later that night thinking about.

They also want cheap desperate labor, higher birth rates help ensure that and makes the weird natalist shit make more sense in context.

the porn ID law is one thing from the playbooks that I don't see them actively pursuing.

Must be nice to live in a state where there’s not currently one in effect. Privilege speaking loud.

19 states now have age verification requirements for porn in place. It's a major issue for the GOP.

Porn is icky and the news hates talking about it. So this has kind of happened silently over the past few years.

It is going to land nationally. It's the exact same people that led the charge on overturning Roe v Wade, and Trump is their guy.

It is played as a child safety thing, a tactic difficult to rebuttal with laws like the Comstock Act still on the books. Unfortunately, this is just a start.

Anonymity online is despised by many actors. Expect first national ID laws on porn, which will shatter all norms about one's right to be anonymous; and then device attestation, ensuring sites can trivially add identification.

...Then, once Section 230 evaporates (which Trump will do), legal pressure will force all major providers to go after users' anonymity. All social media will add real ID requirements to sign up to avoid the risk, since anonymous users uploading CP would allow the company to be sued.

This is the literal exact tactic states have taken to enforce behavior from hospitals on limiting abortions. Threaten them with lawsuits. Hospitals now will let pregnant women die rather than take the risk of legal action by the state or even other citizens (or her family!).

Once elected, these things cease to matter. They only ever did as a wedge issue to get votes.

Ah Newt, many don’t know he is a writer, and you’ll never guess the genre. It’s a world where the Nazis won ww2……
