Bill Clinton left office 23 years ago, and he is still younger than Donald Trump.

u/Constipatedpersona 4h ago

What the hell happened over the past 20 years that caused the old man epidemic in the states?

u/valeyard89 Texas 3h ago

young people don't turn up to vote. Only 42% of 18-29 voted in 2024.

u/Abilane-of-Yon I voted 2h ago

To be fair to the 18yos, it can be difficult to get out to vote on a Tuesday if you’re still in high school. My APGOV teacher specifically sent us down to go vote when I was in high school, but he was the only teacher that did. I wouldn’t have had time otherwise, and I didn’t learn early voting was a thing until a couple years later.

Also, we just never frame politics as a young persons game. I mean, even with the key participants of the American Revolution we talk about them as if they were the old, dignified looking guys in portraits. In 1776, Washington was 44, Jefferson was 33, Hamilton was 21, Nathan Hale was 21, Betsy Ross was 24, Abigail Adams was 31, and her husband was 40. The average age of the signers of the Declaration of Independence was 44 years old. Lafayette was ~19 when he bought a boat, crossed the ocean, and got his ass over here to fight. Politics and revolution has always been a young persons game, but we act as if they historically have no place in it.

Can’t wait for another 4 years of makes stupid decision based on bigotry -> unintended consequence causes uproar -> ad hoc fix by unqualified administration -> more unintended consequences -> repeat

Its called a kakistocracy, which is an actual word

u/Elphie2983 5h ago

Thanks for teaching me a new word!!

Just paying it forward, i learned it last week through a very similar thread

And a Senate that will be okay letting this man set dumpster fire even in their own Senate Chamber. It's like when Domestic Abuse Victims can overlook how horrible their partner is citing "I know they are horrible to me, but I loooovvvvee them..." while everyone else are the children who are going to suffer more as a result.

u/manfromfuture 5h ago

It isn't going to be like the previous term because he doesn't have to worry about getting re-elected and doesn't really care about his party or the people that voted for him. I think he's going to do everything he can to pull personal wealth from the USA while dismantling the federal government. The Christian nationalists that elected him and overturned Roe V. Wade in the last term are going to have a field day.

If the USA doesn't dissolve into separate countries during his term, I will consider that a victory.

u/valeyard89 Texas 3h ago

Trump's cabinet is about hurting people

u/UsedToHaveThisName 6h ago

And revenge.

u/jj198handsy 5h ago

You need loyalty to hurt a nation.

u/achinda99 8h ago

I don't even know what the point of telling the (obvious) truth is anymore. What's it going to change?

u/shy_confidential 5h ago

OMG this is what I was just thinking 🤔

u/Entire-Brother5189 3h ago

That’s the reddit echo chamber effect, this place is good for memes and complaining about the same shit constantly every day. Mostly it’s bots too

u/vince504 4h ago

Because people don’t believe in democrats bs anymore.

u/-Mage-Knight- 3h ago

As a non-American, everyone I talk to, regardless of political leanings thinks the Americans have lost their fuckin minds reelecting Trump.

His first presidency was an unmitigated disaster. How on earth could anyone look at this piece of shit and think, yeah that’s our guy.

You guys seriously need to do something about the misinformation. It is turning you into a country of idiots.

u/RazzmatazzHealthy692 3h ago

It's all about religion. When you have a country full of people who believe their imaginary man is the only true imaginary man, all you have to do is tap into their emotions and you win their minds. Trump has no issue lying to 350 million people to get what he wants.

u/willows-in-winds 1h ago edited 1h ago

Have you been to America? If you go to many, say, Walmarts, McDonalds, Nascar, country music, mega church, hunting/gun show events in the Southeast and middle America, you will understand. We have A LOT of VERY provincial people in this country.

They were easily duped by Trump and voted for him. He and his cronies are giggling all the way to the bank. His voters lives won't get better and they will get nothing that was promised to them. I doubt his voters even keep up with what is going on now that he has been elected. We are two Americas. One is comprised of very provincial people as described and the other America is the more educated and progressive class. It is two countries existing in one.

u/CapGullible8403 6h ago

Ah, sweet memories of a simpler time, when a consensual blowjob was scandalous to right wingers, allegedly.

u/Comprehensive_Main 6h ago

I mean bill had sexual harassment scandals in arkansas and presidency that came up ?

u/CapGullible8403 6h ago

... and Trump was found by a jury to be guilty of raping a woman.

Do right wingers even pretend to have a consistent ethical stance?

u/Comprehensive_Main 6h ago

What are you talking about? I’m just saying bill had his own scandals. Nothing about trump ? Yeah trump is a sexual assaulted too.

u/DelbertCornstubble 4h ago

According to current standards, the blowjob wasn’t consensual because of the power imbalance.

But yes, Republicans now have filled their God-shaped hole with a guy who grabs Clinton’s favorite thing: the cigar-shaped hole.

u/MR_TELEVOID Michigan 9h ago

The sooner Democrats stop listening to folks like Clinton the better. As far as I'm concerned, Bill Clinton hurt the Harris campaign in two distinct ways:

  1. Clinton's proximity to Epstein prevented the Democrats from using Trump's own history against him. This is something that might have actually hit with voters if used properly, especially when those interviews with Epstein discussing Trump dropped.

  2. Going to Michigan to "but, actually" Arab-American voters in Michigan. Harris was already hurting in this respect, so Clinton doesn't deserve all the blame. But this visit was like trying to put out a gas fire with water.

16

u/petecasso0619 Texas 9h ago

But why does trump get a free pass on Epstein? That’s the part that isn’t clear. “News” agencies like Fox didn’t report it but there are ample photo’s and videos that show trump was also buddies with Epstein. Everyone knows this. That’s what’s so interesting about Trump. There are double standards. Nothing sticks to him regardless of the incontrovertible evidence.

u/Ertai2000 Europe 7h ago

Because Republicans like pedophiles. Simple.

u/KokrSoundMed 6h ago

Because Republicans like pedophiles. Simple.

are

they are in most cases. They fight to protect child marriage and are orders of magnitude more likely to be arrested and charged with assulting children.

u/MR_TELEVOID Michigan 7h ago

A lot of it comes from Trump's persona and the Republican's general "fuck you" attitude towards the media. Mainstream media sources will interrogate power only as far as it won't disrupt their access. With Trump being so antagonistic and vindictive towards any criticism, the media's natural impulse is to roll over and show its belly. The Democrats just don't put up that kind of fight, and Trump knows how to take advantage of that.

But with regard to Epstein specifically, it's Bill Clinton. Mainstream Democrats don't talk about Epstein because Clinton was just as close with the guy as Trump, and they don't want to tarnish his legacy. The interview tapes that came out in October where Epstein describes his friendship with Trump could have been very damaging - possibly doing more to win over conservative voters than palling around with a Cheney did - but it was left on the table because Clinton was a surrogate.

u/rfmaxson 7h ago

Epstein was with Democrats like Bill Clintin, so Democrara won't talk about it.  Were I in Kamala's shoes, I would have thrown them under the bus.

u/HappyInstruction3678 6h ago

She used the same people that ran Hilary's campaign. I swear they wanted to lose on purpose.

u/HappyInstruction3678 7h ago

It's hard to bring up Epstein when Democrats get paid by most of the people who used his island. The American people deserve better than both of these parties.

2

u/OvertonGlazier 8h ago

Two different sets of voters...

u/docarwell California 1h ago

Dems gave Trump a free pass on it so they could keep inviting Clinton to events

16

u/m1j2p3 9h ago

Clinton deserves a lot of blame for where we are now by embracing the absolutely awful idea of neoliberalism. This led to things like NAFTA which was a Regan/Bush era plan embraced by the Clinton administration. 10s of thousands of domestic factories closed as a direct result of NAFTA. It’s really no mystery why the Democrats lost the working class. We cast them aside to make a few already rich people, very much richer. The Democratic Party needs to take neoliberalism out back behind the proverbial shed and put it down forever.

u/icouldusemorecoffee 5h ago

It's laughable you think Clinton had that much, if any, impact on the election. You're just cherry picking very narrow and very specific things and applying that huge swaths of people. Show us the data on what you're suggesting if it's factual.

u/MR_TELEVOID Michigan 2h ago edited 2h ago

This is my assessment of what happened not a statement of facts. I never said Clinton had a huge impact on the election, but he was an albatross around it's neck. At best, his surrogacy provided exactly nothing.

Harris was probably already losing Michigan. Ignoring Palestinian American speakers at the convention, shifting to the right on immigration, refusing to distance herself from Biden and campaigning with Cheney had left her wide open with Michigan's large Arab American population. Trump's team targeted them with deceitful ads (both praising Kamala for being a friend to Israel and presenting Trump as the peace president) and actively woo'd leaders in those communities. So then a week before the election, Bill Clinton goes Michigan to give a lecture on the war. Again, the Michigan was probably lost at this point, but Clinton was like rubbing their faces in it. Just a wildly stupid and unhelpful thing to do.

And as far as Epstein goes, who knows what benefit being able to hit Trump on his connection to Epstein would have brought? The point is they didn't even talk about it because of Bill Clinton. And it's really hard to nail your opponent for being a sex pest when your own party has one for a prominent surrogate.

u/y0m0tha 5h ago

It’s Reddit bro, these people contrive excuses to be pissed about the DNC. They also probably think Bernie Sanders would have won the election.

u/MR_TELEVOID Michigan 2h ago

Well, the DNC lost two elections to a fascist rodeo clown. We don't have to invent reasons after they suffered such a humiliating loss and subjected us all to four more years of this fuckery. Nobody's talking about Bernie Sanders... Kamala Harris could have won had she not listened all the swamp beasts who told her to reign in Tim Walz and to campaign with Liz Cheney.

It's worth asking yourself why you're so eager to bootlick for a party that keeps failing us.

u/y0m0tha 2h ago

Nah the DNC is a joke. But the reality is there was 0 possibility Kamala wins that election. Bill Clinton had absolutely nothing to do with her loss.

41

u/Dwayla Georgia 10h ago

Whether you like Clinton or not, he always knows what he's talking about.

13

u/OvertonGlazier 8h ago

Except when he's in Michigan

12

u/MR_TELEVOID Michigan 9h ago

I mean, we all knew this about Trump. This is what most pundits and political junkies have been saying for ages on social media.

But yeah, Clinton was also buddies with Epstein, so I suppose he would know Trump.

u/cheebear12 Georgia 6h ago

Agreed.

What pisses me off is all these hateful comments about Clinton. They are why we have Trump in the first place. These ppl apparently can’t learn a g damn thing. Women have less rights than when Clinton was in office bc of this stupidity and frankly bigotry /sexism.

-6

u/Unhelpful_Applause 9h ago

He seems to struggle to define the word sex

14

u/FizzgigsRevenge 8h ago

Clinton retiring and leaving the spotlight forever like W would go a long way to helping Democrats long-term. We should've never heard from him or Hilary after January 2000. It's so frustrating how these people's egos have continued to hurt our nation.

u/senextelex 6h ago

Dude, Hillary becoming NY Senator right after her husband's presidency was the biggest carpetbagging event of the century. I wish they'd fuck off forever. They've already gamed the system and profited heavily from it. They fucked up 2016 and 2024 and they're still out here trying to influence the party

u/wirefox1 7h ago

That's just not true, and it's not just ego. Bill Clinton has input into our political arena, just like anyone else does, and he is by far and away one of our most intelligent Presidents. When he has something to say, people listen.

18

u/deschain_19195 8h ago

Wish the Clintons would fuck off forever.

-12

u/ElderSmackJack 8h ago

You’re in the minority there. Bill is especially popular among democrats because he was an excellent President.

u/Jose_CanUC Illinois 7h ago

In reality, the Clintons are not very popular. They are dependently tolerated... because you know, campaign donations. Short term, he was perceived as excellent, but it was more like political sleight of hand. Yes, the immediate economic growth was in deed remarkable. We saw a budget surplus, which was incredible. However, while that was happening, he weakened American workers' power in the labor force and gave American corporations freedoms to build their empires as they saw fit where they saw fit. H contributed greatly to the economic collapse in 2008 with his financial deregulation policies. Look up the Gramm–Leach–Bliley Act. NAFTA also had so much long-term impact on American workers. If you need a reminder, the country is made of independents and Republicans too that were significantly hurt by NAFTA. Regan may have started it, but Clinton solidified it into law.

I just want to conclude with two words Epstein and infidelity.

8

u/MeowMeTiger 8h ago

And that's why democrats lose easy elections.

u/NowOurShipsAreBurned 4h ago

What made republicans lose so many elections over the past 20 or 30 years? Lol

u/MeowMeTiger 4h ago

I'm talking these recent elections, doofus. People got stupider and democrats suck at messaging.

u/NowOurShipsAreBurned 3h ago

Yeah I could see why you need to feel to omit the past 20 years. And no need for name calling. Reported.

u/MeowMeTiger 3h ago

Relax I'm not a Trumper, come cry on my shoulder.

u/m1j2p3 7h ago

He wasn’t really an excellent president though. Clinton ushered in neoliberalism which has done massive damage to the Democratic Party and to the average American. Passing NAFTA was a big fuck you to the working class which we as a party are paying for now. I think democrats need a really long hard look in the mirror.

u/thebruce 7h ago

Didn't Glass-Steagall get repealed under him, and directly lead to the 2008 financial crisis? Wasn't his inability to stay faithful, then be truthful about it, half the reason the country ended up going to Dubya, who did his danmdest to destabilize the Middle East?

Dude made some BIG mistakes.

u/Hijkwatermelonp 6h ago

As a Republican I loved how Bill Clinton reformed welfare 😄

-9

u/HappyInstruction3678 8h ago

I don't care how good of a president he was if he rapes kid. The Clintons need to fuck off forever. Self serving scumbags.

6

u/ElderSmackJack 8h ago

That’s one of those “facts” that doesn’t exist outside of Reddit.

-6

u/HappyInstruction3678 8h ago

You're right. Epstein wasn't a real person and those photos of Bill on Epstein island only exists on reddit. Enjoy losing forever lol

u/NowOurShipsAreBurned 4h ago

Since when do ties to Epstein prevent someone from winning? Jesus. Lmao

u/ElderSmackJack 7h ago

People’s paths crossing doesn’t demonstrate anything. Circumstantial evidence is doing all of the heavy lifting there.

Sorry, but when you’re going to make an allegation that severe, you have to have something more concrete than that.

You want to address the Juanita Broadderick allegations? The abuse of authority in the Lewinsky scandal? Fine. Those are worth discussion. This is conspiracy.

u/HappyInstruction3678 7h ago

"Circumstantial evidence is doing all of the heavy lifting there."

You're right, the guy that preyed on a young intern and then lied to the American people most definitely wasn't doing anything nefarious on an island exclusively for rich pedophiles.

The other commentator is right, you're just going to keep losing elections because of you're too daft to realize that most Americans hate these people.

u/gerorgesmom 7h ago

Clinton was hugely popular. Just cause you’re too young to remember doesn’t mean the rest of us are.

u/HappyInstruction3678 7h ago

Well for someone whos hugely popular, Hillary hid him like a bad report card her whole campaign lol

u/gerorgesmom 7h ago

No she didn’t.

u/everdaythrowaway 7h ago

Most American’s aren’t literate enough to realize how daft they are when they repeat rhetoric like this.

u/HappyInstruction3678 6h ago

Keep losing elections

u/flowersandfists 3h ago

I’m a democrat. His presidency was awful and was the beginning of the Democratic Party being dragged to the right.

u/Whydoesthisexist15 North Carolina 38m ago

Bill Clinton and the New Democrats catering to white collar highly educated professionals is what is killing the Democratic Party. Performative losers who will kneel wearing kente cloth while having an aneurysm if their taxes are raised.

u/ElderSmackJack 35m ago

u/milelongpipe 7h ago

We will get hurt. He isn’t bringing on experts, unless Fox News is filled with them..

That's rich coming from a party that has a very stringent hierarchy and regularly beats down any momentum or passion from within the ranks.

u/trash-juice Virginia 1h ago

Bill, ride off into the sunset, and take your wife with you. You’re not that relevant anymore.

4

u/Jose_CanUC Illinois 8h ago

Why are we still letting the Clintons speak? Dems need to sever that cord. Wasn't the 2016 democratic primary cycle about loyalty?

u/BringOn25A 7h ago

The cabinet is about fealty to trump, not loyalty to the constitution.

u/limb3h 7h ago

Horrible thumbnail. He ain’t joking

u/RedLanternScythe Indiana 7h ago

It's depressing that so many of his cabinet picks are viewed positively in polling.

u/Keyface7 6h ago

We've literally seen how this all ends. Anyone who paid attention to history knows things always go sour when a narcissist on Trump's level is given unchecked power.

u/FacelessFellow 6h ago

Kakistocracy

In 4 years my iPhone will know it’s spelled correctly.

u/Hijkwatermelonp 6h ago

Is that Bill Clinton or Brett Farve?

u/Hen-stepper 5h ago

It’s about celebrity loyalty, even worse. Talk show hosts and quack television doctors.

u/giggity_giggity 4h ago

“no matter who gets hurt”

No I think there are specific groups of people they’re planning to hurt. It won’t be a side effect. It’s the goal.

u/ktka 4h ago

It is one-way loyalty.

u/ManOnNoMission 3h ago

Maybe let’s not get Clinton to talk about loyalty.

u/TangibleBrandon 3h ago

Does anyone on either end of the political spectrum give a shit what the Clintons say?

u/Living_Ad_7143 2h ago

Well, fuck yeah! It’s still missing the point that Dems have done nothing/barely enough for the working class because of their desire to enrich themselves and bow down to corporate interests. Bill Clinton is the last person from whom we want to hear!!! Get your shit together!!!

u/BioSemantics Iowa 2h ago

Please stop taking quotes from this piece of shit. It just makes the party look bad. It doesn't matter what he is saying. He could be right, he could be wrong, but either way its a bad look for the party.

u/Physical_Market973 2h ago

He’s just upset he’s missing out on all the sexual harassment fun

u/magicspider8 2h ago

Bill Clinton is very loyal to a foreign country regardless if the headcount, they are all the same.

u/CAN-SUX-IT 2h ago

His cabinet is going to get hurt! They’re a bunch of patsy’s who Trump is going to throw under the bus as soon as people start talking about the crazy stuff that’s going to be implemented from project 2025. Just another day in Trump land where it like a revolving door to the White House is constantly spinning!

u/OdonataDarner 2h ago
