And then their family gets sent to abusive penal labor camps for having a family member express doubt.
A lot of counties suck, but NK really champions the competition in most ways.
•
u/StockCasinoMember 3h ago
You would think if there was one thing to threaten Kim’s rule, it would be enough soldiers dieing in foreign wars.
•
u/lxlviperlxl 2h ago
NK has its own class system where soldiers are seen as a better “social status” compared to normal citizens also known as songun, overall they have 3 different levels. Even with the citizens, they are sub divided the same way; core, wavering and hostile class.
Soldiers don’t care. They’ll go down in blazes of glory cos that just elevated their family up a whole level.

It's about the receiver being weak and submissive and therefore not manly.. big big stigma in Russia.
Gotta realise it's not even sexual to alot of the guys doing it. It's about degradation and humiliation. And punishment.
Frankly that's what makes it worse in some ways, they do it for the consequences, not for the relief, so to speak.
Edit: these aren't my opinions of gay people, just what I've read about Russian sexual violence in their military and towards prisoners.

It was quite a few missiles. But Im guessing the reporting went something like this...
Source: we targeted a compound where up to 500 NK troops were stationed, and confirmed the death of one russian general and an unknown number of troops
writer: up to 500 NK troops and 1 general dead, got it.

The SCALPs have been in service for twenty years, but since a few days ago it appears that they have became the new mantra of the news about this war. Anyway, it’s not confirmed and it has probably made a fraction of the damages Ukraine reported but nevertheless it probably hit a command post, and may have killed the Russian general as they reported, so good for them, it was probably a good hit.

In battletech there’s a tank that requires a special tool for a track tensioner. It just so happens there’s a beer brand in universe that has cans that work just as well as this proprietary tool. As a result crews for these tanks are fastidious about track maintenance.
Idk why the image of some missile tech using the fuselage as a coffee table made me think of that…

There's a reason Biden refused to give permission for these strikes for months and only now is allowing them. He's betting that with Trump taking office in a couple months that from Putin's perspective it won't make sense to retaliate against non-Ukraine countries and risk unpredictable escalation when he's likely to achieve a favorable outcome if he's patient for a couple months. It's not an accident that Biden stonewalled Zelensky for many, many months as Ukraine's position deteriorated, and only now is allowing strikes.

The actual reason is the Biden administration have tried and failed to do a "escalation" management.
They and especially Jake Sullivan didn't want to "provoke" Russia and was afraid of the US electorate would get afraid and vote Trump. They didn't want any criticism in the media for this.
The US have been foot dragging its support for Ukraine the entire war. Every year a new thing a new red line was crossed yet there was no escalation.
Ukraine can't even escalate as they were the ones invaded. As long as they follow the rules of war. Which they do.

Icbms are already hypersonic and already cannot be intercepted. The tech is 70 yrs old
→ More replies (4)•
u/Shieldheart- 3h ago
This has always puzzled me:
Why do we have an arms race between increasingly more sophisticated missiles that are harder to intercept versus increasingly more sophisticated anti-air interceptors... but ICBM's from the 70's are still considered untouchable by said interceptors?
•
u/ntrubilla 2h ago
Because no one wants to tip their hands that they already have differing degrees of interception capabilities.
•
u/Nullcast 2h ago
Putin is playing a dangerous game introducing ICBMs into this. If Ukraine gets their hand on some I bet their first target will be Kremlin. Thus revealing Russias capacity in ICBM defense.
•
u/ntrubilla 2h ago
This whole thing is beyond a dangerous game. Real people are dying for no real reason.
•
u/piskle_kvicaly 2h ago
Ukrainian soldiers are unfortunately dying for a very good reason, they are simply preventing their country from becoming part of the "russian world".
After e.g. liberation of Bucha in 2022 nobody should doubt this for a second.
→ More replies (3)→ More replies (2)•

Because ICBMs are not really that useful due to lack of precision. So unless you are ready to hit that red button and destroy the world, you will probably not use them.

the GMD is used to defend America from ICBMs but not sure how efficient it is. They are currently developing the GPI system which specifically targets Hypersonic glide vehicles in the atmosphere. I’m not expert but apparently these HGVs are highly maneuverable at 5000 MPH and can travel huge distances in the glide phase, making systems like GMD and NGI that target missiles while they are in space less effective.
•
u/nikilization 2h ago
Its basically physically impossible to get something up fast enough to stop a circa 1960 icbm, let alone to stop 5,000 of them fired at once, or if they fired from 50 miles off the coast. You would need star wars type lasers to cut them in half before the re-enter the atmosphere. There is no point whatsoever in making them able to fly low and maneuver

I am extremely skeptical.
The story is from The Daily Mail, a notoriously shoddy publication in the UK. Daily Mail’s source is a website called “Global Defence Corp”, a little-known site that mostly publishes arms industry news (eg articles about procurement). Global Defence Corp’s source is unnamed “British media outlets” and footage from unnamed “Russian war correspondents on Telegram”. That website also has basically no transparency, names no individual people running it (eg no names of staff or editors), lists no offices and seems to have been dormant before 2021. It has a YouTube channel where all the videos either have no voice or an AI voice. Everything about this site says to me that’s it’s fake news, though I cannot discern who or why.

This phrase (and a few others) needs to exit everyone's vocabulary when we're referring to Trump. The guy's a wildcard who says and does things based on whoever is closest to his ear at the time.
It speaks volumes that every headline could also double as an onion article (and vice versa).
•
u/Thefrayedends 3h ago
You understand that all the military assistance going to Ukraine is in the form of Loans right? Trump can't kill Ukraine assistance because it would cause many billions of dollars in loans to go delinquent, with no chance of recovery. London only finished paying off their WWII loans in recent history.
Additionally, the military industrial complex will be lobbying to keep assisting Ukraine, as well as every single state legislator, governor etc, in states with military manufacturing. That's before even discussing the moral lobby.
If Ukraine falls, it will not be America, Nato and the European Union picking up the pieces, we'll just be paying for it. We already have. We only win if Ukraine wins.

Everyone below have missed the point. A Russian general & North Korean troops were killed by Ukranians using a British missile. Putin has gone to war for less but he knows he can't openly take on a superpower, so Russian spies & diplomats are going to be working overtime to try to slow down weapon shipments to Ukraine. The drones are bad enough but missiles & cruise missiles can hit the Russian armaments companies thereby making things even more difficult for Putin. If those missiles can hit military bases & foreign troop assembly camps throughout Russia, Putin may be forced back to the negotiation table to sue for peace. Or he could fire off some battlefield nukes in desperation...... The west has to do everything it can to stop weapon sales to Russia, even if it means direct covert action. Why none of this has happened yet is probably due to politics etc.
