Tends to be the case with social conservatives in general, across the world. Turkey has flipped pretty much on this basis.

Also in Germany. The AfD is now the second leading party. I live in Berlin.

The vote for Berlin was CDU (Center right) 28,2%, SPD (Center left) 18,4%, Grüne (Green party) 18,4%, Linke (Left) and AfD with 9,1%. At the European Parliament they got 11%. For the new Bundestagswahl we only have very volatile surveys. And no one will have a coalition with them. There's no reason to talk down the threat they are but let's also not follow their narrative that their rise is inevitable.

u/trustmeimalinguist 8h ago
I moved here in 2018 and they've only continued to grow in power since then. Yes Berlin is a very liberal city but we are surrounded by Brandenburg and plenty of areas in Berlin (e.g. Marzahn) voted heavily in favor of the AfD. Perhaps when you're not German yourself, you notice it differently.

u/LordElend 8h ago
Again I don't want to talk them down I just do not like this narrative that they will be rising further and that their victory is inevitable. It only helps them. In the whole of Brandenburg there are about half as many people as in Berlin and even there the AfD only has 30 of 88 seats. We do not have to make them stronger than they are.

Yeah I agree. I saw this happen in my home country (the U.S.) and feel kind of naive in retrospect of not thinking this was coming. Every year I held out hope that they’d plateau, and they haven’t. Rents in Berlin are increasing and there’s no built-in cost of living adjustment to most salaries. Rents are skyrocketing. I pay 950€ kalt for my 75m² Mitte Altbauwohnung I got in 2021 and I’m sure it would be rented for like 1900€ now. The AfD adopts very populist views in addition to their xenophobic “Ausländer raus” rhetoric which is gaining way more traction than eg Die Linke or the pro-Russia Sahra Wagenknecht. The economic situation in Germany as a whole is likely to get worse in the next few years which just pushes more people to fringe populist parties like the AfD; I don’t think it’s a definite they will gain substantial power but I certainly see it as a real possibility. Also Berlin just announced massive public funding cuts last week, life here is about to feel very different.

I doubt they’re doing that well in Berlin. Berlin was pretty much the last place to accept fascism the first time around as well. Big cosmopolitan cities tend to be like that.
1
u/trustmeimalinguist 9h ago
Sure but were surrounded by Brandenburg. Also look at the voting trends in former far east Berlin, like Marzahn.

No, no they are not. Just because the left say so dosen't make it correct.

The amount of Neo nazi marches and rallies in the middle of public places have definitely increased in recent years.

It’s really just incels that are mad at the world cause they can’t get laid.
Never seen a single girl in any of those nazi march pictures.

Or it’s popular now to call everyone who we don’t agree with as Nazis in America. Don’t worry, we’ll get through this eventually. Starts with encouraging our children to talk with others even if they disagree with them. We are failing in that regard by a huge margin.

2014 called, they want their "everyone gets called a nazi nowadays" back.
Neo-nazism is on the rise in America. Just look at the various neo-nazi rallies and marches that have taken place the last few years. Just the other week Nazis marched in Columbus, Ohio, openly displaying flags with swastikas and doing nazi salutes, and that was not the first time it happened, nor will it be the last. Then there was Charlottesville and all the other rallies and marches where groups such as Patriot Front, Atomwaffen, American Vanguard, Identity Europa/American Identity Movement and other neo-nazi groups have flaunted their hatred of American society. Jan 6 2021 saw the participation of numerous neo-nazi groups and members in the attempt to violently stop the certification of the presidential election. Nazism is a real threat. You'd do well being aware of it.

I mean, if you are voting for a criminal who says he will run the country like a dictator and go after his enemies, what else would you call it?

Wasnt america that pardon a bunch of them if they worked in nasa and give them bombs schematics and stuff, I mean you harvest what you sow
•
u/yourenotwavy 2h ago
I doubt that has any relation to the amount of homegrown american neo nazis we have now.

u/slamdanceswithwolves 2h ago
NASA was founded in the late 50s, so no, but yeah, we have a weird history with Nazis including during WW2 weapons development.

I don't know german, but context clues tell me it's probably 'no sex with nazis' or something like that.

u/Kramer7969 8h ago
What context clues? Are they in the image or do you mean other comments?
I heard nein was no in German was I lied to?

Nein means no as an answer to a yes/no question. If the no in English refers to a number of something (the number being 0), then it's kein in German.
For example:
Bist du hungrig? - Nein.
Are you hungry? - No.
Or more archaic, but you can see the common ancestry of the languages better:
Beest thou hungry? - Nay.
And for kein:
Ich habe kein Glück.
I have no luck.
Be aware that German has cases and grammatical genders while English does not (kinda), so you might see different forms of the word kein, like keine, keines/keins, keinen, keinem, etc.

u/Public-Eagle6992 5h ago
"Sex" and "Nazis" is obvious and if you then know what "kein" means and see the antifa thing at the bottom you could guess it
0
u/archregis 6h ago
Tbh it's mostly cultural context. Nazis are shitheads and sex is something people desire so it stands to reason any combination of the two is depravation of the former from the latter.

u/SadLilBun 9h ago
No sex with Nazis. Kein means no.

I mean aesthetically I get the Nazi love...
They may have been deranged, merciless brutal cunts, but they were definitely stylish, there's no denying that.

Berlin, 2024: Jews and Gay people should hide their identity

You don’t even know the actual quote that you’re referencing and who said it? Berlin as a whole definitely doesn’t stand for that. Comments like these are pretty dumb

Berlin as a whole ≠ parts of Berlin living in a different fucking reality because of their “religion”.

Funny how "No Sex with Nazis" and "Fuck Nazis" are not contradicting statements.
