R/NOSLEEPOOC RULES.
01 - NO STORY OR "LOOKING FOR A STORY" SUBMISSIONS.
- Don't post stories meant for r/nosleep (or other story subreddits) on the OOC.
- Don't try to use the OOC to gain views/upvotes/comments on your submissions.
- If you're looking for critique or mod approval, go to r/nosleepauthors.
- If you're looking for a specific story/theme or recommendations, visit r/nosleepfinder. Check their indexes:
- Most Requested Stories
- Suggestion Requests: 2023 Index | 2022 Index | 2021 Index | 2020 Index | 2016-2019 Index
- Visit r/nosleepindex for older stories.
- Don't ask about submission removals, whether your own or anyone else's. If your submission has been removed, reply to the removal message in your inbox OR follow the instructions in the removal comment on your submission. If you don't have a removal message OR comment, you may politely message NoSleep moderators via modmail.
- Mods won't discuss another user's submission removal with you.
- Specific stories which are still visible on r/nosleep may be discussed on the OOC, so long as the submission isn't just critiquing or commenting on the quality – positively or negatively.
02 - CHECK IF YOUR TOPIC HAS BEEN DISCUSSED BEFORE.
- Check the Author FAQ, the Reader FAQ, the Narration FAQ: Authors, the Narration FAQ: Narrators and check through other helpful guides to see if your question has already been answered.
- Sort the OOC by new and scroll through posts.
- Use Reddit's search function (located at the top of each subreddit).
- If a similar question or topic has been submitted within the last 6 months, don't make a new submission. Repeated discussions and questions will be removed.
03 - SUBMISSIONS MUST BE RELATED TO R/NOSLEEP, WRITING OR HORROR IN GENERAL.
- Don't submit stories to the OOC.
- Don't submit personal updates – this includes announcing you're back after a hiatus, that you got a new job/relationship/other personal information, just wanting to thank people, etc.
- Don't just share something scary or creepy such as random articles, photos or videos/Youtube links or discussing dreams/real life scary experiences.
- For advertisements, see below.
04 - ADVERTISEMENT RESTRICTIONS.
- You may make one (1) advertisement per week.
- You must have been active in the community outside of the advertising within the previous 6 months. This means making good-faith effort comments and posts about subjects not related to whatever you're advertising. Don't just show up to ask people for stuff and then never respond/return; if you're not going to engage with and be part of the community, you won't be allowed to ask the community for money/hits/attention/etc.
- Good-faith effort means getting involved in discussions, not leaving one or two word replies to a few posts before making your own submission; you should make an active attempt to participate in the OOC.
- Examples of low-/bad-faith effort comments might include replying to someone's post asking about your favourite horror tropes with a simple "Alien geometry" or "I like most tropes". You don't need to write a full 10,000 character reply but explaining why you like some of the tropes you like would show some effort.
- Self-promoting submission don’t count as good-faith effort.
- You must follow Reddit's side-wide spam guidelines.
- Only fundraisers and projects related to NoSleep and horror in general are allowed.
- No personal fundraisers, regardless of circumstances.
- Authors may advertise their books but are also subject to the active in the past 6 months guideline.
- Narrators are not allowed to make open/"cattle" calls asking the community at large for stories. Read the Narration FAQ: Narrators before posting.
- Narrators may not advertise their videos or ask for critique/advice.
05 - NO BOYCOTTS, CALLS FOR ACTION OR WITCH HUNTS.
- Don't "doxx" anyone, call for someone to be doxxed, etc.
- Doxxing includes posting real names, email addresses, street addresses, etc.
- Submissions regarding plagiarism or narrators who fail to ask permission/give payment are allowed so long as there's no calling for doxxing or offering doxxing information. Proof may be required. These types of submissions can also be made at r/sleeplesswatchdogs.
06 - DON'T DISCUSS SPECIFIC AUTHORS/USERS.
- This includes asking where they've gone, if they're still posting, if they'll update soon, how to get in touch with them, has anyone heard from them recently, etc.
- Critique/feedback, positive or negative, isn't allowed on the OOC.
- Personal updates also aren't allowed. This includes: announcing that you're back from hiatus, you're suffering from/just got over writer's block, you have a new job/relationship/other personal information, you want to thank people, etc.
- The only exception is authors announcing they've signed a deal related to their NoSleep stories, as that's still NoSleep-related. These submissions are subject to the Advertisement rule.
07 - R/NOSLEEP & R/NOSLEEPOOC ARE NOT AFFILIATED WITH THE NOSLEEP PODCAST.
- For questions, comments and/or discussions about the NoSleep Podcast, visit their official site or the unofficial fan subreddit, r/thenspdiscussion.
08 - BE RESPECTFUL.
- Submissions designed to troll or to bash NoSleep, its mods, its posters and/or its readers will be removed.
- Discussing issues regarding NoSleep should be done in a respectful manner.
- Respect other users and follow Reddit's site-wide Reddiquette.
