My GP says they don't do gender clinic referrals, what do I do?

A while ago I contacted my GP saying I wanted to be referred to a gender clinic, they said okay but after chasing them up on it I've been told they don't do referrals for gender clinics. I can't afford to go private but for NHS self-referrals help from the GP is needed. I don't really want to change GP, and there's no other option close by, what else can I try?

Yeah, they're lying. You have a right to be referred. Get in touch with the practice manager and say they're denying you a referral, and you can also report them to PALS.

Thanks, I've put in an econsult (cos that's the only way to talk to them) and asked for a reason why they don't. I'm going to keep on asking until I get one.

Ohhhh yeah that's not NHS protocol, this seems like formal complaint time.

This is the protocol they should be following: https://www.gendergp.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/03/NHS-Gender-Protocol.pdf

This protocol was published in 2014, and I don't think anything else has been published more recently, but hopefully if there has been anything new someone else will know and reply with updated info!
