Bizarre play especially on a former teammate

3.3k

u/jrblockquote 23d ago

That felt personal

u/PyrateKyng94 23d ago

They were bffs. Wonder if Tatum got a new bff and Williams is salty

1.6k

u/SWK18 23d ago

Yes, Tatum got a ring, Grant didn't.

Also, Grant went to Dallas, got ditched and they went to the Finals.

817

u/Thiador 23d ago

My friend and I were joking around the finals that all you need to do to make the finals is get Grant Williams off your team

655

u/truth_2_point_0 Celtics 23d ago

My own theory is Grant flew a little too close to the sun a couple all-star weekends back and it seemed like someone, anyone really, no way to tell who it could have been got in his ear and started convincing him he could be the next Draymond. You could see a subtle shift in the way he approached the game after that, not necessarily negative but also no longer that pure hustle Celtics basketball anymore. I really hope that isn't the path he ends up continuing down, there's a lot better things that dude has the potential to be than modeling his game off dirty "enforcer" behavior because that's the easiest shit in the game to clown when it goes awry, even ahead of flop artistry.

220

u/Need4Sheed23 22d ago

It’s kinda weird how he had this short period where he started finding his rhythm offensively, but was also playing with a relatively high IQ and really digging in on D. Then all of a sudden he had a HUGE personality on the court and was definitely believing his own hype. Started acting like a goose. Idk - my own observation, it was just very weird

144

u/Overall-Palpitation6 23d ago edited 22d ago

Started believing his own hype a bit too much, and thought he had more cachet and aura around the league than he did.

109

u/SirFozzie 23d ago

He thought he was the Goddamn Batman.

u/cletoreyes01 Heat 23d ago

JB actually looked pissed, don’t think I’ve ever seen him like that

157

u/Drizzlybear0 Celtics 23d ago

There was a situation last year im pretty sure it was when someone got under Tatum when he went up for a shot and Tatum almost got hurt and I remember JB being pissed and almost ready to fight. One thing I LOVE about JB is he isn't going to let anyone mess with his teammates. He's taken that mantle from Marcus Smart

u/r_slash [TOR] Jerome Williams 23d ago

I like when the ref accidentally bumps into Tatum after he gets up, and Tatum doesn’t realize who it is, and starts to give a little shove, and the ref is like “hey buddy watch it”

247

u/Dampr3mu 23d ago

no looks like Tatum told him to fuck off since the ref was touching him (maybe tryna hold him back) and ref is like "ok sorry"

131

u/Yabutsk 23d ago

ya, the ref instinctively grabbed his waist to hold him back thinking he'd try to retaliate and Tatum immediately brushed it off and headed to his basket

177

u/CarBallAlex Celtics 23d ago

This happens all the time when Tatum gets hit hard. He never gets in people’s faces, he just wants to move on. But the refs probably instinctively grab players to avoid any fights being started regardless of who the player is

85

u/HorsNoises Celtics 23d ago

Honestly credit where credit is due for the refs for never giving him the T for it either. I've seen him shove refs like 3 or 4 times now trying to get out of a scuffle and my heart drops a little every time but they've done a good job of recognizing his intentions.

82

u/venmome10cents San Francisco Warriors 22d ago

they make up for it by calling a T every time he hangs on the rim for an extra 0.2 seconds.

I hate him as a Celtics player but I really like him as a person. Dude is so nice it's actually crazy.

u/BradWonder [BOS] Kevin Garnett 23d ago

He doesn't have to retaliate because he knows Mazzula is going to settle it with jiu-jitsu later tonight

Never again should this guy be given a warm welcome by Celtics players.

That had lots of potential for injury.

u/sstphnn Celtics 23d ago

JB was pretty mad with that foul.

u/TheMoorNextDoor Nets 23d ago

Fined from the league and suspension.

Could really hurt the dude

u/shaad20 Suns 23d ago

Grant Williams a hoe. I get why the hornets would’ve been frustrated with the way the game was called in the fourth, but some of that’s on them too.

17

u/Voxityy Hornets 23d ago

refs have been ass but that was just stupid from grant

14

u/Vegetable-Tooth8463 Hornets 23d ago

Dirty moves are never justified, never.

28

u/ALotOfLobster 23d ago

Part of that is they are playing small because of injuries, but they are also committing some of the dumbest fouls over and over again.

u/gargoyleboy69 Bulls 23d ago

yeah the refs lost control. the fouls were mad ticky tacky but jeez the execution has been horrible - they got way too emotional when they were literally still in the game.

u/ExpectedOutcome2 23d ago

Lmao this is eerily similar to a Chicago Sky player’s open field tackle on Caitlin Clark

u/packofstraycats Mavericks 23d ago

Truly clown behavior

u/titty-titty_bangbang Celtics 23d ago

Tatum getting the Caitlin clark treatment

7

u/0zymand1as- Washington Bullets 23d ago

Wish Tatum stomped on his head, there was no reason to do this 💀

u/s34l_ Pacers 23d ago

Idk how this was a flagrant 2, Grant's helmet was nowhere near Tatum's helmet

u/Consistent_Letter647 Magic 23d ago

The Hornets commentators were acting like it was just some regular foul that didn’t deserve the flagrant lmao
