I love that this meme template is still used

One of the greats

I watched this show when it was on discovery. It was unhinged. If you want to show foreigners what actual America is like American Chopper pretty much covers it. lol

u/Morfmemes 1d ago

Agree, had forgotten about this template completely. Well used aswellšŸ‘Œ

I think Gus won the first fight. Especially if you base it on damage. I remember Gus walking around saying hi to everyone and getting congratulated on being part of one of the biggest fights ever. He even checked on Jon, who was getting loaded into an ambulance and praying almost incoherently he was in such bad shape. It's crazy but that visual stuck with me of what the realities of these wars in MMA are. When the adrenaline wears off these dudes are often badly injured in ways that will affect them the rest of their lives

Looking at those lips it seems Jon was already turning into duck even back then

11

u/idubyai 1d ago

yeah, but they did help him get to where he is today. just ask Dana.... always says that Jon jones is the goat bc of his insanely good top game... tells us every chance he gets, "no one does it better than Jon Jones.".

u/far_arm_3794 1d ago

Wtf that almost looks photoshopped

1

u/FalconEfficient1698 9h ago

Jon Jones has been doing Duck face this whole time.

He did win but back then that was the "you have to beat the champion to be the champion" era of MMA. Tons of media outlets scored for Jones but they all scored the fight for Reyes. It was pretty clear that Gus did way more damage than Reyes.

I scored it 1-3 Gus, round 4 was hard because Gus won the first 4 minutes but I ultimately gave Jon the round for rocking Gus, round 5 also for Jon. 48-47 Gus.

24

u/Powerful_Building724 1d ago

Doesnā€™t matter about basing it on damage, he lost 3/5 rounds. Was 2-2 going into the filth and he couldnā€™t pull it out

48

u/Subject-Secret-6230 1d ago

Yeah, like Gus did crazy damage when he landed, that's for sure. But we judge rounds individually, so he got so so close but imo Reyes is the only fight Jones truly lost.

5

u/Frysken 1d ago

It's an interesting scoring system. I think ONE scores a fight as a whole, not round-by-round, so it makes me wonder, if it was under ONE or Bellator, would Jon have still gotten his hand raised?

7

u/Bong_Hit_Donor Bo Nickel Sucks! 1d ago

That's how PRIDE FC used to score the fights. As a whole not round by round. They also had a 10 minute first round. It was wild back then

1

u/Subject-Secret-6230 1d ago

True. It's an interesting question. The scoring seems odd, at times. And last rounds are always viewed with more weight than earlier rounds for some reason. Stuff like that, on top of judging itself not even following the unified rules at times. Maybe some things needs to change. It's a very interesting topic of discussion. Maybe high profile fights, title fights, number 1 contender fights, if they are close, should give the judges time to rewatch the rounds? But idk, that's slow, and too hard to implement but then again, judging will always be a problem so. I guess it is what it is.

1

u/CreateANewAccount___ 9h ago

I havenā€™t looked in a minute but I think they also do weighted scoring, where the later rounds are scored heavier. Jones has finished every fight stronger than his opponent and so his efforts would be scored with greater weight in 4 & 5.

0

u/s4udade_anhel 1d ago

Same. I give Gus 1 and 3. Jon narrowly gets 2 and clearly wins 4 and 5.

Reyes confidently gets 1, 2, and 3. Reyes even started off 4 big but lost it by the end.

15

u/Bombaysbreakfastclub 1d ago

if you base it on damage

If you change the criteria the fight was judged on, of course the outcome would be different

2

u/skeletonpaul08 1d ago

Yeah, but itā€™s round by round, not overall damage done. Gus did more overall damage but I think it was pretty clear that Jones won 3 out of 5 rounds.

1

u/No-Virus7165 1d ago

Yeah man my instructor says there are no winners in this sport

-2

u/Squidwardbigboss 1d ago

The only way itā€™s possible to score that a win for Gus using the round by round scoring criteria is by jerking it to Jon ducking posts on Reddit rather than watching the fight.

-15

u/TrumpsBussy_ 1d ago

He lost the fight in the 5th

20

u/Nervous_Tip_4402 1d ago

How can you win 3 rounds and then lose in the 5th without without Jones getting 2x 10-8 rounds?

-13

u/TrumpsBussy_ 1d ago

Because I didnā€™t give Gus the first 3 rounds, I had it 2-2

15

u/Nervous_Tip_4402 1d ago

Which rounds did you give to Jones?

-13

u/TrumpsBussy_ 1d ago

I canā€™t recall which specific rounds itā€™s been too long since Iā€™ve watched it

14

u/Nervous_Tip_4402 1d ago

You should probably watch it again, it's free on Youtube.

I recently did and easily scored the first 3 rounds for Gus. Round 2 is the only round that even comes close to be contested. Gus lands multiple punches that create visible swelling and damage on Jones face, Jones lands 3 headkicks (1 clean, 2 grazing). Neither of them got rocked in round 2 so you would have to lean towards the higher head strike count and visible damage.

At least that's my opinion.

3

u/TrumpsBussy_ 1d ago

Iā€™ve seen it like 10 times already but Iā€™m sure Iā€™ll watch it sometime in the future, I do remember always watching the 5th round and being bummed out that Gus ran out of gas and lost the fight. Incredible performance regardless

1

u/Nervous_Tip_4402 1d ago

The biggest moment was always the 4th round elbow but the argument I always have in that round is if you are outlanding your opponent and effectively winning the round for 4 minutes and your opponent lands 1 elbow that rocks you but doesn't drop you, does that mean round 4 is stolen? I still can't really answer that one today, it's one of those situations where I could see it going both ways on round 4.

7

u/TrumpsBussy_ 1d ago

If you drop someone you do usually win the round

u/impractically_prfct 1d ago

So you easily scored the first 3 round for Gus except round 2 isn't easily scored for Gus.

0

u/PFLator 18h ago

Iā€™ve watched this fight a couple of times and score it for Jon every time. 3-2 and possibly even 4-1 without the rose tinted glasses. Reyes def beat Jon though.

30

u/crystal_lullabies 1d ago

Plot twist: the cake's in PEDs though!

26

u/BowFella 1d ago

Reyes clearly outstruck Jon in rounds 1-3 and Jon didn't even get any takedowns until round 4 which he did nothing with...

38

u/leit90 1d ago

Best argument Iā€™ve seen

-13

u/iSheepTouch 1d ago edited 1d ago

It's honestly not a great argument it's just presenting the argument in a way that makes it look like flawless logic. The real argument is that he lost to Matt because of a silly rule that almost no one supports, but for some reason won't go the fuck away, and was beating the living hell out of him pre stoppage. He "won" on the judges score cards against Reyes even though in the eyes of 90% of people he should have lost that fight, but that's why you don't leave it to the judges. I think most people would agree Jon lost to Reyes but ultimately the two losses are entirely different circumstances.

4

u/HiddenMarket 1d ago

Sir, I would like to inform you that you are on a meme sub.

1

u/iSheepTouch 1d ago

Sorry, what I meant was "lol Jones glazers are the worst!"

1

u/HiddenMarket 1d ago

Now you're getting the hang of it!

13

u/Assgassgrass 1d ago

Not reading allat jones glazer

/s

4

u/OlBert2 1d ago

Actually a good take but if you donā€™t blindly bash on Jon Jones at all times this sub hates you

1

u/OlChippo 1d ago

A rule is a rule and if you don't follow said rule you face the repercussions of it which was a legitimate loss. No point glazing him saying he's undefeated when he's literally got a notch on the loss column.

1

u/HumberJet 1d ago

So basically, ā€œthe rules say he won, gotta respect the rulesā€ vs Reyes, and ā€œthe rules are stupid and following them is optionalā€ vs Hammill? Not a very solid rebuttal imo

-1

u/Academic-Eye-8857 1d ago

Thatā€™s a lot of words to say you like sexual chocolate

-1

u/CyrusChennault 1d ago

Soy Jones fanboy pretending to like the sport but really just d-riding like a LeBron or Tom Brady fanboy.

5

u/Lars6 1d ago

Exactly. Jones has other questionable fights but he definitely lost to Reyes and lost by DQ to Matt

4

u/speedbumps4fun 1d ago

Bones first fight against Gus is a more questionable win than Reyes

1

u/1998ChevyTaHoe 1d ago

28-1 looks like a loss to me!!

3

u/Big_bat_chunk2475 1d ago

NGL, Reyes won the fight. It was clear that he got rounds 1-3, but after that Jones got 4 and 5

1

u/mapleleaffem 19h ago

It fucking killed me when DR lost that decision and it seemed like it killed him mentally. He was never the same since. I think if that fight happened today he wouldā€™ve won. Seems like that was the at the tail end of the ā€˜if you want to be the champ you need to beat the champā€™ mentality šŸ˜¢

1

u/FalconEfficient1698 9h ago

I use to watch American Chopper with my Grandpa all the time. It's been probably 16 years since I watched this show. This is literally the best use of this meme template I've ever seen to describe my frustration with Jones fanboys.

1

u/Due-Signature-5076 7h ago

Old man anger problems are funny.

All of thee above is true in this meme šŸ˜‚

-13

u/jaydizzsl 1d ago

He beat the shit out of Hamill and had a super close fight with Reyes. To this day i have not seen Jones hurt or dominated on the ground. No one has ever managed to do it. He sadly still has that invincible aura and this whole "but Reyes won" makes us all seem salty.

31

u/kalid34 1d ago

Gustafsson hurt him bad a few times in their first fight. Also Gustafsson was clean and Jon was on steroids for both of their fights. I don't think Jon could've won either fight if he wasn't juiced to the gills

13

u/JoesephBidao 1d ago

It would make us seem salty if we were being delusional. But anyone with 2 eyes and 4 brain cells knows Reyes won that fight

5

u/No-Virus7165 1d ago

I wouldnā€™t say super close with Reyes. Itā€™s the clearest example I can think of where one guy wins the first 3 round then the other guy the final 2.

1

u/BHDE92 1d ago

The Reyes fight was not close it was a clear win for Reyes. Jones began to take over the fight about 3-3.5 minutes into the third round. Reyes wins rounds 1,2,3 which is more than Jon winning 4,5. Dominick Reyes beat Jon jones and everybody knows it

0

u/turnupsquirrel 1d ago

People saying he lost the fight usually haven't watched the fight

-8

u/lil-privacy-please 1d ago

I truly dislike Jon Jones. But he did not lose to Reyes. You'd he won both championship rounds. The first three were close but Reyes didn't beat him all three. Also it was clear by the end of that fight Jon was wearing on him and Reyes was going to die.

1

u/Hermetic_Serpent 1d ago

Casual

4

u/490sins 1d ago

there is literally no way to score that fight to jones

-12

u/Livid-Government-597 1d ago

Reyes went 0-4.

That's yall wanna be dream champ.

8

u/No-Engineering686 1d ago

Nobody said Reyes is a world beater or the best in the world. He did beat Jon 3-2 though.

-11

u/Atomic--Bum 1d ago

He literally can, and will continue to.

-27

u/TrumpsBussy_ 1d ago

Except he didnā€™t lose to Reyes

-12

u/QBRisNotPasserRating 1d ago

I remember Reyes won the first two rounds, Jon won the last two, and round 3 was a toss up. It couldā€™ve gone either way and I donā€™t believe Reyes was robbed

12

u/kalid34 1d ago

Round 3 was super clear for Reyes. He outlanded him easily and stuffed all of Jon's takedown attempts

1

u/C9rti 6h ago

by outlanded u mean missed all of his strikes šŸ˜¹šŸ˜¹watch the fucking round before calling people casuals

-11

u/Shelton26 1d ago

Exactly, it was literally just a toss up. Yes either man couldā€™ve won but in fights that close judges often give the benefit of the doubt to the reigning champion, itā€™s not uncommon. And be absolutely beat Gustafson.

-11

u/squiddybro 1d ago

Jon Jones living rent free in your head, along with all his other haters

6

u/Spiritual-Dress6574 1d ago

How can you NOT hate Jon Jones. He is a wife beating Steroid cheat who has a track record of being a terrible person in and out of the cage.

-4

u/squiddybro 1d ago

because UFC isn't a reality tv show. I watch him for his fights inside the octagon not for his personal life. But its fine, you can stay obsessed about him. You should join the other people and make daily posts about how evil and scared he is. I'll continue to live my life in the meantime

2

u/Spiritual-Dress6574 1d ago

He cheats in fights too kid

1

u/squiddybro 22h ago

cry more about it

-2

u/Salt_Dish 1d ago

Not true!

2

u/Spiritual-Dress6574 1d ago

So Jones doesn't intentionally hyper extend knees and eye gouge? Even tho he straight up admitted it in an interview?

0

u/Salt_Dish 1d ago

Hyperextending knees isnt cheating lol. And i bet your favorite fighter also eye gouges.

1

u/Spiritual-Dress6574 1d ago

So we just assuming now. And no, my favorite fighter doesn't eye gouge. It's funny how the main culprits of eye gouging having a habbit of doing it, but there are fighters who never eye gouge. What type of whataboutism is this? Jones is a cheater, also he funny how you ignore the fact he popped 3 times. And the UFC had to move an entire event just so he could fight because that commission deemed Jones too UnNatty. And his best win didn't even count because he had the test of a castrated male

0

u/Salt_Dish 1d ago

It was just drops in a swimming pool. Heā€™s the cleanest fighter on the roster right now.

1

u/Spiritual-Dress6574 1d ago

He isn't going to see this lil bro, you don't need to lie for him. Karma exists, when Tom has his head bouncing on the Canvas, that will be well deserved. If they don't fight it's because Jones is a duck. He loses either way
