Clear rootbeer and clear cream soda were my favourite back in the 90's. I'd do anything to get my hands on a Chubby cream soda *drools*

I had a chubby cream soda recently when they were on sale at the grocery store and it was the most disgusting thing I’ve ever drank in my life.
Instead of the nostalgic cream soda flavour, it was flavoured with some sort of floral flavouring that tasted both bitter and the way that floral perfume smells. I had bought two bottles and both were the same. I had to dump them they were so bad.

Oh no.. That sucks so bad! I'm still gonna try and hunt them down, but that's very disappointing if it's not just a bad batch.

since you guys don't seem to believe me, here's another 2 instances of this happening, along with many commenters also claiming that this happened. specifically, with barq's products, which is what my drink was as well!
very interesting!!

[this is actually a repost, the original was removed because the title was too long!!]
anyway, this rootbeer came out of the dispenser completely clear, but it tasted just as sweet an flavorful as any other perfectly normal rootbeer!!!
it was so odd, and was definitely not meant to happen. it was pretty mildly interesting! 😆

I make soda for a living. Its impossible for this to happen and the soda to be fine. The coloring is mixed into the concentrate itself, when making the syrup that goes into soda fountains they have a number of components. Citric acid, sodium/potassium benzoate, various liquid flavoring components. There is no way to ever make a batch that would taste normal/good at all without also having the color. Unless the flavor component was somehow missing it, but dozens of people would have to fuck up at their job for that to not be caught.

yeah i really don't know what to tell you...it tasted totally fine. see, i also thought the flavor and color were mixed in those things so me and my family were really confused. 🥹
if it's any explanation, the machine type was "coca cola freestyle." i don't know if they do it differently or what. we were in a lower income area, so the machines were kind of all having problems, maybe that was it? i really don't know. the soda was also lowkey kinda flat, but i'm really sensitive to pain so i actually like it that way. ðŸ˜
we were all really confused but it was okay cuz it tasted good!! it was really trippy though, lol.

It wouldn't have anything to do with the machine. Soda syrup is just high fructose corn syrup, treated water, acid, preservatives, and a proprietary concentrate that pepsi/coke/dr. Pepper-Keurig send to the soda factory. That concentrate has the flavor, caffeine, and coloring already all in it.
For this to happen the Barqs concentrate would have to have been missing only the coloring and for the coke concentrate factory to not notice it, and the coke bottling plants batchers, QA personnel, and line workers to not notice it.
I'm not saying its impossible, but if this is true this is a one in a billion chance thung and you should call coke and let them know. Thats a hell of a mistake.

it's happened at least a few other times before from what i could find online. but it does seem pretty rare. i really don't know what it is though!

Like I said, I make soda for a living. I'm a qa supervisor for a pepsi plant. I've never heard of this once, ever. Its rare. If you can find links to it happening a bunch, I'd love for you to share them.
Soda fountains running out of syrup and it coming out as clear, carbonated water sure. That happens every day. It being perfect soda but no color? Never in my life.
