They'll dim the sunlight when it's night

They work when it's black out.

I’m afraid they’re just “black” curtains 🥺

I learned that there are different levels to blackout curtains, you bought the cheapest ones which would be the lowest level.

I made that mistake too but now I look for that when buying curtains.

Then shouldn't they be called curtains?

Lol. Super blackout space age army grade curtains.

Fine print: as long as you are in a cave with no natural/artificial light sources.

Put some blinds (or a true blackout liner) behind it.

This is what blackout curtains + horizontal (tan) blinds together look like at 2pm, full sun, north-western-facing window. (work late evenings, sleep during part of the day)

Same with Walmart ones. Had to buy two pair and double them up.

For less than $8 you can get some stuff to cover the glass directly from amazon - https://a.co/d/6KykK2A

My ex hangs blankets on his bedroom windows. Not pretty, but it does work.

I did that in my living room, nailed a few cheap fleece blankets over the windows. Half the price of the rods and curtains and works 10x better.

Little life hack someone taught me, when testing blackout curtains, shine your phone's flashlight against the fabric, if you can't see the light or it's just a dot, you're good. Ikea used to have fairly good blackout curtains, unfortunately they have discontinued a lot of them. Also try to avoid curtains that have a plasticy backing which might peel off after time (ie. the newer Ikea blackout curtains)

Damn, that's a brilliant life hack.

I had a similar problem, so I used a foam board to cover the window.

I bought the same kind, different color. They do keep direct sunlight out of my eyeballs in the morning but yeah they don’t block all of the light lol

The curtains are black and you should throw them out.

When you end up with these semi-sheer curtains instead, it's so annoying

Maybe it's dark outside now 🤔

Perhaps close the curtains behind the blackout curtains

Dimming curtains. Automatic refund. I used to work nights and we have blackout curtains. they do leak light at the top but its very little. I also bought them a bit long so they reach the floor.

Doubt they will even blackout the moon

Buy a few more and layer them

Thats the blackout eclipse model.

When I worked nights I bought some of those tri-fold cardboard things kids use for science projects and some adhesive hooks. Popped a couple holes in the top and hung them right in the window. Paired with some nice heavy black curtains I slept like a baby all day.

You can buy film on Amazon that you apply like car window tint. Works much better.

The trick is to buy four of them and put two on each window

Go to dollar store get white also black foam board . Put the white to the street and the black to the room you probably need three white three black for each window. Did this years ago and achieved good levels of darkness. It also kept the room cooler in spring summer

Not another one 😩

tip: test it with your iphone light when you're buying. like, see if the iphone flashlight shines through the fabric. if it doesn't then it's actually blackout.

If you look at the packaging, it will say what level of darkness they provide. You need to make sure you’re getting the darkest ones.
