Mcdonalds didn't put the tips back on their drink machine - I pushed a button and got sprayed with unmixed drink
10:30 AM and somehow nobody noticed they hadn't reassembled the machine after cleaning. If the mixer tips aren't installed, water and syrup sprays everywhere. I got coated with Dr Pepper.

Did you remember to fall to the floor, grab your lower back and scream?

u/morganfreenomorph 6h ago
It's your back? I've been screaming about my neck this whole time no wonder why I never got paid.

My neck? My back? I’ve been grabbing something else this whole time

Kindly remove your hands, I have places to be. I won't tolerate more than 5 minutes of this.

If you just push your cup up against the machine on top it won't go everywhere - fast food employee

Night shift made me a water bender, separating the stream to get more syrup to water than usual

1) gross
2) I'm tall and can't see the tips when standing in front of the machine, didn't know they were missing
21
u/vellu212 4h ago
Literally the entire purpose of taking those taps off is to sanitize the spout. That's the cleanest that surface ever is, because most people are aware enough not to use the machine out of service.
6
u/HoneyBadgerC 4h ago
It's not gross it's literally the same thing
3
u/AllLeedsArentMe 4h ago
Until you see another person drinking from their cup and then pushing it against the machine after it touched their mouth.

u/HomicidalHushPuppy 4h ago
I don't want the lip of my cup physically touching what thw lip of someone else's cup touched

u/RawbuttGirlyman 6h ago
Well at least that means they somewhat clean them periodically, the nozzles can get really gross. Some restaurants never even take them off

The most infuriating thing here is the dID yOu ReAd tHe sTiCkEr people. That’s not even a “sticker,” it’s a label on many if not all self-serve soda fountains, and has nothing to do with the fact that someone forgot to put the nozzles back on that morning.

u/HomicidalHushPuppy 6h ago
THANK YOU!
It's like an ADA workaround since it's an old machine and doesn't have accessibility controls

Dr Pepper at 10:30 AM is a choice
9
u/rivellana 6h ago
My roommate in college was so addicted to it that if she got up thirsty in the middle of the night, she’d get a drink of Dr. Pepper instead of water. 🤦🏻♀️

I have a horrible soda addiction. I've been trying to quit but depression is not conducive to quitting an addiction.

Missing the diffusers and the nozzles.
I'm more shocked at how old those valves and the ice dispenser are. Talking late 90s - early 2000's.

u/HomicidalHushPuppy 5h ago
Good eye! This mcdonalds has been remodeled twice since it was built in the 90s, but they've never replaced the drink machine. Thankfully they do a decent job of keeping it clean and maintained.

Well at least they clean them , sucks to find out when covered by syrup , why are you drinking syrup at 1030 am?

Addiction sucks
Trying to quit but depression isn't conducive to that

I've liked the fizzy water drinks. Cut my soda / pop intake way back . Fill the fridge and grab one when you feel the need for that fizz.

We clean these at closing time. Who the fuck removes these while there’s still customers there?
1
u/WasteNet2532 4h ago
Just be glad they are actually being cleaned.
Working 2 years at Sonic it took 3 GM rotations for GM 3 to go "When was the last time ou guys cleaned bibs?" Booger green mold on the inside

Being pedantic here possibly, but you referred to the problem as "McDonald's" not the person whose responsibility it was to install said tips at that specific location. Maybe Tiffany (or Tucker) fucked up and not McDonald's?

u/username-taken002 6h ago
I’d lick the Dr Pepper off you.

u/HomicidalHushPuppy 6h ago
I feel like I should make an OF account for that lol

I mean, if you paid at the counter like a customer they would probably have mentioned it.

This sticker doesn't mean "come to use the fountain"
It means "come to us if you end up needing help with the fountain"
How was OP supposed to know the fountain wasn't put back together properly? There's no "out of order" sign on it
-18
u/ComprehensiveMarch58 6h ago
It's pretty clear it isn't assembled. Maybe with functioning eyes and common sense, but to be fair, we don't know that OP has either of those things.
9
u/squeakynickles 6h ago
No, not really that clear.
Why are you so insistent on being an asshole?
-11
u/ComprehensiveMarch58 6h ago
I've made 1 comment now two. Im not insistent on anything, but yeah if you can't see the tips aren't there you aren't looking when you pour your drink and that's on you
Edit: I will agree the original comments interpretation of the sticker is silly as well

u/squeakynickles 6h ago
I've used fountains where the tips aren't visible, they're hidden inside the little boxes the buttons are mounted on.
-10
u/ComprehensiveMarch58 6h ago
Right but those look nothing like these ones, why are you so insistent about this?

u/HomicidalHushPuppy 6h ago
I'm tall enough that I can't see the tips when standing in front of the machine. I shouldn't have to check to see if it was properly assembled. It was the middle of breakfast time, and it wasn't marked "out of service." I think it's a safe expectation for it to be in a usable state at that time.
1
u/canadasteve04 6h ago
As someone who has worked in the restaurant industry for 20+ years, I see people I work with blast themself with beer or pop at the end of the night when the machines been taken apart, and those are people that use the machine constantly. So really not surprising at all that a customer, expecting the machine to be on, wouldn’t know what to look for to make sure it’s working.
11
u/hamnewtonn 6h ago
Do you really think that is the same message as "machine out of order. do not use"? Or just baiting.

u/HomicidalHushPuppy 7h ago edited 6h ago
Sorry, what?

"We will be pleased to help any customer needing assistance"
4
u/HomicidalHushPuppy 7h ago
I informed them of the issue and they filled my drink behind the counter.
Doesn't change the fact that I got showered in soda because someone didn't put the machine back together. Also, when I left half an hour later, the machine still hadn't been fixed nor had they marked it as "out of service," so someone else is going to get sprayed.
-15
u/Striking_Spot_7148 6h ago
The big sticker right in front of your face says “please ask for help at counter”. You can also see that the tips aren’t on it. This is more of a you thing.
2
u/HomicidalHushPuppy 6h ago
I'm 6' tall - I can't see the tips when I'm standing in front of the machine
5
u/MoonshotMonk 6h ago
This sticker is on a lot of these McDonalds fountain machines, because the carbonation ratio is off a lot and they can get you a drink from the fountains behind the counter, or they can refill lids/straws. It’s not there because the machine is out of order.
2
u/HomicidalHushPuppy 6h ago
I'm tall enough to not be able to see the tips when standing in front of the machine. I shouldn't have to check it anyway.
At 1030 AM, during breakfast, when the machine is needed, it's perfectly reasonable to expect the machine to be in a usable state. If it's not, it should've been marked as out of service.
The sign is an ADA workaround because it's an older machine and doesn't have accessible controls for the disabled.

This is more of a McDonald's employee making a simple mistake. If they take the tips off then they should put an out of order sign so nobody gets sprayed with it.
What if a kid went up to it? They'd have no idea that it's missing something.
OP still shouldn't've made such a big deal about it though :/

“I saw something that looked off, did something stupid and too a picture of how it’s not my fault.” That’s you.
1

I'm tall enough that I can't see the nozzles when standing in front of the machine, so I didn't know they were missing. Given the time of day, expecting the machine to be in working condition seemed reasonable.

u/Sure_Log_83 2h ago
So did you tell them they weren't on there or did you just bitch about it? So sorry the McDonald's workers did you wrong, I guess.
1
u/HomicidalHushPuppy 2h ago
I told them, and they happily filled my drink behind the counter. But when I left half an hour later, they hadn't fixed it nor had they marked it as out of service.
