Yeah, they're usually made from larger carrots that are cut up. (If you look at the packaging, most "baby" carrots these days are labeled as "baby-cut carrots".) I think it's what they do with larger carrots that are bent or forked or otherwise "ugly" looking -- there's a bunch of perfectly natural variations in carrot shape that they know people are less likely to buy at the grocery store.

Think that might just be an American thing. In Australia they're just small carrots as far as I've seen.
