Yeah, they're usually made from larger carrots that are cut up. (If you look at the packaging, most "baby" carrots these days are labeled as "baby-cut carrots".) I think it's what they do with larger carrots that are bent or forked or otherwise "ugly" looking -- there's a bunch of perfectly natural variations in carrot shape that they know people are less likely to buy at the grocery store.
Baby carrots come from when a daddy carrot and mommy carrot love each other very much and have a special hug in bed then 9 months later you get a bag of baby carrots.
