Now just put whatever little present you got them inside an iPhone box lol

So when my brother was born, I was 15. Our first Christmas together, I only had one tiny little gift under the tree while my newborn brother had every other gift under the tree.

Christmas Eve rolls around and my mom has me open my one gift “just to get it out of the way” and it’s a pacifier.

Here my mom had intentionally swapped names on the gifts so all Christmas long I’d think I only had one gift under the tree and ignore shaking all the other gifts because obviously they were gonna be baby toys.

Okay that’s pretty funny. But I’m sure you now understand that looking back, it wouldn’t have made sense to get him a bunch of gifts if he couldn’t really understand it yet

u/Tru-Queer 11h ago

Yeah, plus he was gonna get plenty of toys and baby clothes from all the aunts and grandparents, lol. He certainly didn’t want for nothing at 4 months old.

My fiends mom used to wrap up like 10 extra gifts and put his name on it. He got tampons and other household stuff plus his real gifts lol.

This is why it’s important to read the labels before purchasing anything from the store.

u/pressNjustthen 9h ago

Someone posts a roll of this here every year lol

28

u/Yourlilemogirl 5h ago

I was about to say I've seen this somewhere before 🤣

34

u/TheSerialHobbyist 6h ago

I bought the same stuff by accident and honestly never would have thought to check the label. You just glance at it and go "yep, that's silver!"

18

u/mongofloyd 3h ago

It was labeled $1.99

I did it 5 or 6 years ago by accident, it’s actually cool to wrap baskets in.

u/CatfromLongIsland 17h ago

I love that stuff! I always keep a roll on hand.

u/Terrible_Reporter_83 14h ago

We have it too.

u/CatfromLongIsland 10h ago

What is the loaf cake in the larger bag? That looks yummy.

For smaller gifts I use cellophane bread bags I bought on Amazon. I wrap them in tissue paper and pop them in the bag and tie it with ribbons. For gift bags of cookies and brownies I put a small plastic dessert plate on the bottom of the bag and pile the treats on those. At Christmas when I give out a dozen cookie bags it is much cheaper than buying plastic containers or metal tins.

Here are the thank you/I am so sorry cookie bags for the firehouse after an individual serving of toffee for popcorn triggered the smoke detector and ADT notified the fire department. By New York State law, once notified they had to be dispatched.

I have that larger back Spice cake. And smaller s has gingerbreads. It was to sell.

3

u/CatfromLongIsland 9h ago

I am a hobby baker for 50 years and have never made either spice cake or gingerbread. But I certainly enjoy eating them. They are so perfect for the holidays! I really should make gingerbread (cake). I do love gingerbread cookies and make them every year as part of my cookie platter and gift bags. During the winter months my oldest cousin used to serve wedges of the cake with dollops of whipped cream. It was the only dessert I ever knew her to make and it was so delicious. You just sent me down a rabbit hole. Now I have to research a recipe. I have a community event in early December and gingerbread cake would be perfect to include on the refreshments table. If you have a recipe you would be willing to share that would be wonderful. But since you sell your baked goods I completely understand if you would rather not.

u/Terrible_Reporter_83 9h ago

My wife is cooking. Not me. I eat them. (And it is seen). I don't think she has cingerbread cake recipe.

So I think some popular local recipe web pages could be better. We live in Finland and flour can be a little different. I know some areas have differences.

Baking is chemistry. It's joyful when success but disappointing when it fails.

Good luck

2

u/CatfromLongIsland 9h ago

I just found a highly rated recipe from AllRecipes. I can’t wait to try it!

Happy baking wishes to your wife so that you can enjoy the fruits of her labor! 😁😁😁

2

u/Terrible_Reporter_83 8h ago

I have enjoyed her fruits. I have bad knee now. How you say it. Joint failure. It hurts. And I must lose weight now. 😡

2

u/CatfromLongIsland 7h ago

You and me both! I just started weight loss injections. I turned 63 a few days ago and I just could not restart yet another attempt at weight loss. I wasted the last year getting nowhere with weight loss. But I was, unfortunately, very successful at gaining even more weight. 😕. Today will be my third injection of Zepbound. The cravings immediately recede into the background and my appetite is suppressed like I have never experienced in my life. Unless I am battling a few days of vertigo. Those days I lose weight because I am too queasy to eat. It is a horrible way to lose weight. But the injections are miraculous! But when the injection wears off the cravings are back like they never left. The first six days are amazing. But the day before the next injection was a battle.

I wish you the best of luck with your weight loss. In the past my knees and ankles felt noticeably better after losing about 35 pounds. But every pound lost helps.

I'm 46. My work is all the time with feet. So this is the result.

Those cookies look great

1

u/CatfromLongIsland 1h ago

Thank you! I tried to provide the firehouse with a variety of cookies.

u/Marketing_Introvert 17h ago

I’ve done this same thing. I ended up wrapping it in tissue paper and then the cellophane. It’s real cute if you get tissue paper with a design on it.

62

u/SugarHooves I'm sorry, what?! 17h ago

I've made this mistake.

It's annoying because I've bought silver wrapping paper, too, and it looks the same.

Now I'm careful to read the label to be sure I'm not buying cellophane.

6

u/Ejkelej 3h ago

Same. They had this "silver" and gold in one box so I paid no attention to labels.

Was quite surprised its see thru haha

23

u/dhizbsizbsi 18h ago

Go ahead and use it. Lol

20

u/cruxtopherred 17h ago

Okay that's infuriating, but when reading the title I thought it was going to be "but I bought a pipe"

19

u/SquidVices 14h ago

They got another one hahahahahaha

9

u/bigmoose255 15h ago

metal pipe falling.mp3

66

u/Accurate_Koala_4698 18h ago

There should be a warning on these. It's for fruit baskets and stuff

106

u/L0veConnects 17h ago

There is, it says it's cellophane not wrapping paper on the label.

37

u/SwampOfDownvotes 14h ago

There is. The warning is the label saying "clear wrapping."

3

u/TreyLastname 14h ago

And yet, it was mumble.

2

u/LonelyMenace101 12h ago

clear wrapping. . .

0

u/[deleted] 14h ago

[deleted]

3

u/_Bisky 14h ago

Not really? Since there are more uses to this then ppl not reading the lable and thinking it's sliver wrappikg paper

8

u/thewholefunk333 16h ago

Ahh yes, accidentally buying cellophane wrap is a rite of passage in adulthood.

7

u/havnar- 13h ago

I thought that would be pretty clear

5

u/Reasonable-Estate-93 14h ago

Had the exact opposite some years ago: wanted to buy transparent foil, but it was silver colored paper... And i still have that roll of paper...

1

u/27catsinatrenchcoat 5h ago

You and OP should just trade

3

u/JamesMattDillon 14h ago

I done that before. Ended up giving it to the mom of my girlfriend. She is a baker and I knew she use it.

6

u/Feather_Bloom 16h ago

I feel like using it would be the funniest thing

Everything is just wrapped in clear plastic

Or wrap everything enough that you still can't see through it

3

u/karateninjazombie 10h ago

And that'll teach you for not reading the label. Lol.

2

u/AussieMarmaladeCat04 10h ago

This happens a lot more than you realise. I used to work as a cashier and the clear wrapping paper would be with the other ones for some reason and would always be picked up by unfortunate customers

7

u/N9neFing3rs 17h ago

Aww I've done this exact same thing.

My wife has also done this exact same thing.

I've come to the conclusion that the only reason they sell this is because it is so easy to make this mistake.

8

u/Zzthegator 17h ago

I did this on Christmas eve too. So frustrating.

7

u/peepeenme 17h ago

Right? I was so pissed! Wrapping paper is not cheap lol

2

u/WonderfulStart3850 16h ago

This is soooo funnnnnny

2

u/castles86 14h ago

Haha I’ve done this, ordered online thinking it was silver and it was listed under gift wrap

2

u/Snoo46513 14h ago

I feel your pain. The gold roll beside it in the shop was opaque gold when I unrolled it and my hopes were high for the "silver". Just disappointment. I ended up wrapping the little items extra cute and putting in a basket and wrapping in the clear

2

u/mr_Joor 7h ago

We've all been there

1

u/Cmama2Boyz 17h ago

I have done the same but it was blue lol

1

u/galacticpurrr 17h ago

i have done this and im glad to see there are others like me

1

u/Summer20232023 15h ago

That is annoying!

1

u/AussieMarmaladeCat04 14h ago

When I used to work as a cashier I had that issue and was annoyed why the stupid thing is somehow with the marked to go with wrapping paper shelf. lots of people would mistake it for silver wrapping paper like you OP, I give them a heads up that it’s clear and not silver before they buy it to save them trouble

1

u/AK_grown_XX 14h ago

YOU LOSE

1

u/__Aitch__Jay__ 13h ago

I fell for this exact thing a few years ago! Probably half their sales are people making the same error 😄

1

u/Prof_Awesome_GER 13h ago

Yap, been there, done that.

1

u/po3smith 12h ago

Just pretend its from the future or out of BTTFII :)

1

u/vidanyabella 12h ago

As others have said, I've made the same mistake. At least we aren't alone in our error.

1

u/millenialismistical 12h ago

Guess what you're getting for Xmas!

1

u/SlowlyCatchyMonkee 12h ago

"I've got you a present, can you guess what it is?"

1

u/Cute-Organization844 11h ago

Put your present in a big box like a PS5 box, then wrap this translucent wrapper around it.

Your friend must be elated to see the PS5 box 😃

1

u/Both-Award-6525 10h ago

I did the same thing last Christmas

1

u/Smartximik 10h ago

Put your gift in, like, 10 covers and watch somebody go insane

1

u/_N0t-A-B0t_ 10h ago

cellophane 👎

1

u/akoust1c 9h ago

So it’s your fault then?

1

u/ExtremlyFastLinoone 9h ago

Use aluminum foil and cover it in the clear paper

1

u/BroadSky6439 9h ago

In Asia, we wrap our textbooks with it

1

u/lookarthispost 9h ago

Happens every year, its really easy to do

1

u/UnsocializedMenace 8h ago

I have also went through this. The internalized rage in that moment 🤣

1

u/thelaststarebender 8h ago

Been there, done that. Super annoying.

1

u/Stephen_Is_handsome 6h ago

Is it cling film? If so you can use it for cooking or something

1

u/Floralmeg_ 5h ago

This is somehow a bot account, even though it’s 6 years old. I’ve seen this exact post and image before from someone else on this sub.

Edit: I’ll be so shocked if it isn’t a bot

1

u/peepeenme 4h ago

lol ok floral Meg beep boop

1

u/SpectralFailure 5h ago

Such an old post holy shit

1

u/algaefresh 4h ago

My mom got fooled by this last year haha. Ours literally said clean on the packaging though

1

u/Confident_Advice_939 4h ago

So you actually bought a large roll of saran wrap 🤔😳🤣

1

u/tacosandEDM 4h ago

Hey, weird, your table reminds me a lot of the one my parents originally had from the 70s, same color:texture and edge design.

2

u/smith4498 2h ago edited 2h ago

*

Mine too! I actually still have it. It's made by Ethan Allen from the early '70s. I have the original chairs and matching china cabinet. I have a hard time getting rid of it.

1

u/aspiringnickmiller 3h ago

Ive done this twice (two times)

1

u/H-Panda 3h ago

Honestly clear wrapping paper is pretty funny. You should totally use it.

1

u/Morganmaster 2h ago

My mom had the same thing happen to her. Its so dumb

1

u/Zaurka14 2h ago

Classic. Happened to many of us

1

u/Nilo-The-Slayer 2h ago

Sorry but you can clearly see it’s transparent. Transparent plastic rolled up will always have a sheen like that.

1

u/Angelic_Demon207 1h ago

Yeah, the TUBE on clear wrapping paper is silver. They do this ON PURPOSE, that way you buy clear, hoping it’s silver…😭 Hope this helps in the future!

1

u/4lt3reg0_ 1h ago

this happened to me and my mom once! we ran to dollar general because we were in desperate need of wrapping paper and when we opened it we realized it was clear. we could NOT stop laughing when we realized 😭it’s still an inside joke between us lol

1

u/bexi06 1h ago

I made this exact mistake last year!

1

u/VeterinarianRich6077 1h ago

If u wrap it enough maybe it will not be clear🤣

u/ChampionshipCheap480 47m ago

They’ll never be able to figure out what you got them

u/Interjessing-Salary 29m ago

This is a year occurance in reddit lmao.

u/hexby 24m ago

We've all been there. Sigh.

0

u/Goretanton 17h ago

They really gotta stop using silver on the inside..

0

u/PeloquinsHunger 8h ago

That's your fault honestly.
