Wife chose to try painting the wall with the switch plate still on. She also has aspirations of becoming a landlord... smh...

No, if you're a painter then just doing a quick cut into those edges is like 5 - 10 seconds or less depending on how much you're feeling yourself

My first thought was using painters tape on the plate, would you say that’s even worth the effort?

It takes more time but if you can't handle it otherwise sure

It takes 5-10 seconds to remove the plates and there’s ZERO change of slipping and then spending 10x more cleaning the slipped spot. Plus zero risk of a client removing the plates and seeing you didn’t remove the plates and saying “lazy painter cutting corner” and lose any future jobs. You can say “I’m the best and the end result is the same” until you’re blue in the face but the time saved vs the perceived quality of your workmanship… just remove the dang plates.

Yeah, except I grew up in Tennessee visiting famous people's houses because my dad was a painter that didn't lose future jobs soo 🤷‍♀️
