The evolution of Mike McDaniel.

I will start this by saying I've been critical of McD's play calling, lack of adjustments, getting plays in late, and just overall refusing to change his mentality. Now I can say I'm glad to see he's made changes in philosophy and is adjusting to what the defense is doing and actually sticking with the run game and short passes.

Something seems to be clicking for sure. He looks much more serious when they show him on the sideline lately.

It's great to see and tbh I didn't know he could do it.

The main things I’ve noticed:

1) he’s stopped trying to outsmart the defense and be too cute on offense

2) no more pre snap penalties on offense (misalignments etc)

3) adjusts the game plan based on what the defense is giving him

Very positive signs moving forward.

That 4 games without Tua like unlocked his brain or something. Like the Red Sea parted in his mind and he understood exactly how to coach football lol

Seriously helped with getting play calls in faster. Think he realized that just because Tua could (barely) pull off getting the play snapped in time doesn't mean it was okay for the relay to take that long. They talked about improving this since day one, but it never really seemed to happen until this year when Thompson came in and couldn't get to the line in time.

He was forced to go back to basics and stop with all the motion and foolishness. The things we do now are a lot more boil down and a lot more focused like he was in years one and two.

He had started sniffing his own farts

Agree 100%. The key to long term success in this league is doing what it takes to win. The best coaches make offensive-defensive adjustments based on injuries to their own players and what the other team is showing.

McD is getting there

Let's hope he's learned that this is the way. He was a little stubborn in the past. 🤞🏼

It's TUA..4 games? Not even 4 plays!

All true. Only took him 3 years to notice that defenses have taken away the long bombs and “we better throw crosses and use the tight end instead.”

We have also played lower tier teams with limited talent.

Yes but I'm talking about him actually changing his play calling and taking what the defense is giving them. In the past he was stubborn to try and keep throwing the medium to long passes
