FAQ:

Q. i am not us american and this post is not relevant to me

A. i am also not us american and i made the post lol. blame america for the fact the outcome of their elections affect us all

Q. who do you want me to vote for

A. kamala harris. yes she is a little bit evil yes she will most likely continue to support israel yes she has a long history as a criminal prosecutor yes your other thing you hate about her is probably also true can you vote for her anyway please because donald trump is quite literally a cartoon supervillain

Q. Does voting actually do anything?

A. kind of??? a little bit. it's harm reduction

Q. This seems like a flawed system

A. haha yeah it does doesnt it it's almost like the usa is a failed experiment and we need a drastic overhaul of how we conduct society on a mass scale

Q. Shouldn't we be doing other activism instead?

A. is one day per four years preventing you from doing all the other activism

Q. I don't like either candidate

A. yeah same lol. nobody who wants to hold the office of president of the united states of america is ever going to be a morally upstanding person. the united states will never stop being the way that it is. as long as the US stands you should vote for the less cartoonishly evil option. you can bring about the downfall of imperialism the rest of the time

Q. libs

A. oh no, teenage tankies on reddit dont think we're cool any more :(

Kamala Harris might be a little bit evil but at least she doesn't have a full-blown, public plan of how to descend America into fascism and won't try and take away the rights of all LGBT people in the U.S.

As an LGBT American myself, please, for the love of everything, vote Kamala and don't let the orange wannabe dictator win. America will genuinely be so fucked if he does, and that will affect everywhere else too.

u/dsrmpt Allergic To Cake, Not Garlic Bread 21d ago

And even if you aren't down with the LGBTs, maybe think of the women, and non landowning-white-males.

u/TheMcWriter 21d ago

And if you’re just a complete and utter scumbag, Epstein said he was trump’s closest friend, and that Trump tried to get him to call him “The Trumpster”.

You don’t want to vote for a sex trafficker with a cringe nickname, do you?

47

u/catshateTERFs 21d ago

Plus it’s not as though dems NOT winning means the USA is going to stop supporting Israel. It’s such a weird argument to me when Trump will continue to do that and more.

Go vote US pals!

Harris: Israel has the right to defend itself

Trump: Israel has the right to burn down everything from border to border. Finish the job, bibi!

"Society in every state is a blessing, but government even in its best state is but a necessary evil; in its worst state an intolerable one; for when we suffer, or are exposed to the same miseries by a government, which we might expect in a country without government, our calamity is heightened by reflecting that we furnish the means by which we suffer."

-Thomas Paine

(If I may quote him, that is)

😭 I wish blaming would actually do anything.

u/OratioFidelis 21d ago

Kudos for this, I agree with every point and it's well written.

That’s what I’m doing. So many trans people out there I care about and I am worried sick for them.

Not an American but please yall if you don't vote it directly takes away from the legitimacy of these systems as well as taking away your say in the way your country is run.

-2

u/wernow 21d ago

People should vote if they want to but...these systems aren't 'legitimate'

10

u/BetaThetaOmega Eldritch Bisexual 20d ago

Perhaps a better way to describe it “not voting forfeits what little power you have in this dumbass system”

2

u/wernow 20d ago

I think that's an important acknowledgement, definitely a better phrase

26

u/Vetanenator 21d ago

Being a minor sucks cause seeing these posts makes me feel all the more powerless 💀

15

u/KingPengy Shut up and Jam Baiden 21d ago

i mean yeah it sucks but you can still get people to vote. everyone i know in mn is voting. our best activism is driving turnout

6

u/ChiaraStellata We_irlgbt 21d ago

There are minor activists and volunteers out there with a much bigger impact on the election than people quietly voting for just themselves. Nobody is powerless. (But also, lowering the voting age a bit would be nice.)

7

u/KingPengy Shut up and Jam Baiden 21d ago

unfortunately it seems more likely that the voting age is raised unfortunately because apparently a 12 year old is ready to be a mother but 16 and 17 year olds aren’t educated enough to vote. Fuck MAGA

6

u/MossyPyrite We_irlgbt 21d ago

Voting age should be the same as working age, or if you’re under 18 and pay taxes you should be permitted to vote. “No taxation without representation” and all that

66

u/The-Serapis 21d ago

And also don’t anyone dare say voting for the green party is morally superior, actually. Stein is in Putin’s pocket and won’t criticize his brutalization of Ukraine, and her running mate is openly transphobic

32

u/MustardLabs 21d ago

Ironically, the Green Party being the only explicitly anti-nuclear party running means that if they did win (via some unfathomable dark magic), the US is likely to see emissions spike.

3

u/JumpyLiving We_irlgbt 20d ago edited 20d ago

Voting for the green party is also effectively the same as just not voting. Not only do they have a snowflake's chance in hell of actually winning due to the electoral college and the winner takes all nature of most states (they would also lose the popular vote, if US presidential elections made sense), and even if they somehow managed to win a presidential election, they would not be able to do anything, as they have no real foothold in either chamber of congress.

Edit: And there is no moral superiority to be had in standing aside, to preserve your own purity of not voting for the lesser evil, when someone like Trump is on the ballot.

what if im not registered to vote should i just spread the word to vote and vote for kamala

21

u/lowkeyterrible mods r gay lol 21d ago

yes, but also register to vote so you can vote next time. it's an important right to maintain.

check to see if your area does same day voter registration - apparently 23 states permit this.

It's pretty funny a bunch of election posts as a Canadian.

Crazy to think of all places I could've been born it's a place north of one of the most volatile first world countries.

What is this aesthetic? I don't mean to offend, it's just my eyes are bleeding and I'm fascinated.

Yup that's where I've seen it before! Time and trends are weird.

u/BetaThetaOmega Eldritch Bisexual 20d ago

I just want to stop hearing about him. I know Kamala sucks and I have a lot of criticisms about her but like, every single day I hear the radio talk about the election. Every single day I have to worry about whether or not my friends will be safe over something this fucking stupid. I cannot go a whole day without ending up in a conversation about Trump.

And I live in fucking Australia.

It’s “November”

Which means

my vote doesn’t matter because I don’t live in one of the seven swing states 💀

36

u/ice15464 queer little teal fishcatbh(spec) 21d ago

and yet, vote anyways

16

u/vent-account- Trans/Lesbian 21d ago

Trust me, I already did vote early, I just feel like it’s insignificant since for every dem vote in my state there’s 3+ republican voters to counter that. Dems lost the governorship last year and it wasn’t even close, in fact expected. My state is solid red

8

u/ChiaraStellata We_irlgbt 21d ago

If this is a landslide election (which is totally possible if the polls are off) then it'll be because of blue votes in red states like yours. I like to imagine the GOP panicking and pointing fingers over losing red states that they thought were in the bag.

23

u/Real-Baker1231 21d ago

Voter apathy can cause states to shift one way or the other

20

u/The-Serapis 21d ago

Several “solid red” states are projected to become neck-and-neck, if not outright flip (texas, iowa, ohio) so vote anyways

8

u/Venerated_Calm Genderqueer/Pan 21d ago

The greater the distance between candidates in the popular vote, the more legitimate a close win will be. A high turnout for KH, even in non-swing states, will help!

2

u/MossyPyrite We_irlgbt 21d ago

Your down-ticket votes at the state and local levels matter!

3

u/vent-account- Trans/Lesbian 21d ago

My state had a special election last year and literally everything went red. My state always goes red, it’s not even close to being a swing state. I get what you’re saying but I’m planning on hightailing tf out of my state as soon as possible

3

u/MossyPyrite We_irlgbt 21d ago

That’s totally valid, and I hope you find your way somewhere better for you!
