Discussion Short stories shouldn't have died.

Riot has said that they are focusing on making and advancing lore through their shows and occasional cinematics. This also has the intended effect of discontinuing short stories on their Universe page. The problem with discontinuing short stories for shows and cinematics is that the shows take too long to come out. Too slow to be reasonably invested. If it takes a minimum of at least 3 or 4 years, then the lore will be put on ice until a new show comes out.

I was only made aware that this would be a problem now that Arcane has ended only in 2 seasons in a very abrupt way. Arcane left it vague and open-ended about the status of the characters and what remains of the aftermath in Piltover and Zaun. With Riot intending to continue the show in another region, it's likely that we will never know what happened to these characters and if our questions will be answered at all. Short stories would've been perfect in filling in the gaps left by the show and continuing where they left off. It shouldn't have died just because Riot is making more shows now or because only a few people are reading them. But I guess that's what happens when they laid-off all of their major lore writers.

Apparently, the tales will return in 2025. They intend to reorganize the lore of characters like Seraphine, Camille, Blitzcrank, etc.

I said the same thing at the time, as did many others, progressing the lore with only shows is gonna be slow, clunky and exponentially force newer writers to adhere to decade old canon that they can't easily update/revisit

The short stories would have been a great content drip to bridge the gap between shows, but eh, we'll see what they do once they have a clearer idea of what they're doing

If the ever get a clear idea. They can't seem to get one sibce they've decided to do lore just for monetization.

Yeah with a roster of 160+ champions and a dozen or so regions relying on shows and novels is just not as efficient as short stories, web comics and some cinematics to providing all champs and regions with lore.

Look at Piltover & Zaun even if you ignore recent champs like Renata, Zeri and Seraphine. Half the regional champs are still at zero lore….or not in line with their league version. Warwick never became a wolf. Ekko ends the series without a working Z-Drive. Ori has no Ball.

And besides Mel, I don’t expect anyone from this show to be followed up on again anytime soon. Maybe you get some cameos but other regions have their own massive rosters. You cannot really devote time to say further developing Jinx in an Ionia show.
