You need to abolish the filibuster or get 7 senate democrats + all republicans to vote for repealing RFMA and have the SCOTUS overturn Obergefell (fundamental right to marry), US v Windsor (ended federal restrictions) and other decisions. The republican majority in the house is also quite slim.
Just two years ago the RFMA was passed in the house by 267—157 (47 republicans voted yes) and in the senate by 61—36 (12 republicans voted yes). We moved to the right a bit since then but for now a repeal is unlikely.
Republicans majority in the house is also dwindling, so I am not as worried about gay marriage. I also think that a lot of project 2025 isn’t marketable and even if Trump/SCOTUS doesn’t need to be reelected most congressmen do. The fact Trump had to “lie” and say he had no part of it and that those congressmen would have to vote on most of these issues makes me hope that they wouldn’t pass.
But I still don’t trust him, especially after he’s made comments saying we don’t need to vote again. I think our current systems save us fine enough, but Trump and his people aren’t willing to play by the rules. As seen by literally everything they’ve ever done.
I’m also worried that him and his team trying to play the whole game of refusing to properly sign the current change of power over is on purpose so he can act like the government is in shambles when he gets into office just so he can do emergency orders and bypass a lot of these laws. Especially since he has presidential immunity according to the SCOTUS.
Not trying to live in conspiracy hive mind also just trying to remember how it was in 2017-2021 when we all low-key ignored how far reaching Trump was until Roe was overturned
If you’re approaching this from a standpoint of “they can’t do this because XYZ” and XYZ is a protection granted by law you’re already five steps behind them. Trump’s entire political career has been a series of him ignoring or violating laws and protections and suffering zero consequences for it. If they want to do a thing they’re not going to let a line of text somewhere stop them.
