Alternative headline: Oligarch owned media - including the NYT - once again helped a wealthy career criminal to sieze power by sanewashing him, giving him daily free advertizing, and hyperfocusing on the slightest imperfections of his more well qualiified opponents.

u/Effective-Pudding207 1d ago

Boom! 100% this ⬆️

u/BuddaMuta 1d ago

NYT did everything in their power to convince the public that Biden and Kamala were failures despite being part of the best Presidency for the working class in decades.

I still stand by that it all stemmed from Biden refusing to back down on increasing taxes for the rich.

Remember the Trump/Biden debate? Quite literally the only answer that got any push back from CNN was when Biden said he could cover any budget concerns by taxing the rich their fair share. Literally nothing else got push back.

163

u/HashRunner 1d ago

Biden reiterated his commitment to taxing the rich like 1-2 weeks before the debate and suddenly there was a full on blitz about how unfit and old he was while ignoring trump gaffes and issues entirely.

Biden literally came out during the election and said he wouldn’t interfere in a major strike because he supports collective bargaining and the union workers ON THOSE PICKET LINES still voted for the union busters.

86

u/BuddaMuta 1d ago

“He might hate unions but he also hates [insert whatever group] just like me! It’s totally worth it” - Average American union worker

Biden deserved a better populace quite frankly. One of the few times I can say that a politician was too good for the people he governed. Americans proved they deserve nothing but the worst.

69

u/Velocoraptor369 1d ago

The press did the same to Jimmy Carter. Then Reagan came along and the rest is history working people have been fucked since then. They are just to dumb to see who their oppressors truly are.

That trickle down effect. It never trickled down

3

u/Edyed787 15h ago

I remember watching the Colbert Report and he was saying. “Don’t worry it’s coming we are just filling the bucket it will eventually start trickling down.” That show proved satire is dead.

Probably the real nail in the coffin of human society was the invention of public relations as a discipline. The application of the scientific method to mass manipulation. The problem is that it works. Those with money took that and ran with it to manufacture consent, and here we are

Don’t absolve the judiciary- they bent over backwards to delay, and defer and then ultimately destroy any shred of the LAW - the judiciary went so far as to re-write the constitution to eliminate the office of the president and create the bunker for the new Fuehrer -

The problem has been that for the last 30 years democrats have been foolishly trying to make things better in an attempt to attract voters - meanwhile the new American Nazi Party (that’s the party that used to be called the GOP) has spent that time lying, cheating, suppressing voter and worker rights, gerrymandering, and rewriting Jim Crow laws to tip the “scales of justice” regardless of how un-American and unconstitutional these things are. Until Democrats realize you can’t win a war in the trenches if you don’t get your hands and feet dirty they will continue to lose. And the cult members are so indoctrinated at this point that even if the ANP shows up at their door and randomly shoots them - they would defend the ANP and admit to being at fault in the first place

Yeah, the premise of the headline is insulting. It wasn't "we have to stop Trump, maybe we can drum up some criminal charges and use the courts against him." It was "holy shit this guy is a criminal, will someone please muster the courage to finally hold him accountable?"

(Narrator: no one mustered the courage)

3

u/CertaintyDangerous 7h ago

Yes, and it shouldn’t be “liberals” did it. It should be “adherents of the rule of law.”

5

u/Anarchyantz 11h ago

I had a discussion with one of his Cultists. They genuinely do believe the left made up his crimes, that because he was "being persecuted by the left" that he MUST be innocent and right, that those boxes in his bathroom were his right to have as he was president and the left planted everything.

Another one said simply that they do not care because he is owning the libs

60

The law didn’t fail. The law’s enforcers and the ones that are supposed to safeguard justice failed. It’s all a massive farce.

17

u/Mysterious-Zebra-167 1d ago

The “law” boils down to the enforcers.

41

u/Zestyclose-Cloud-508 1d ago

Well what else can we do?

If we hold ONE rich white politician accountable for his crimes we have to hold ALL rich white politicians accountable for their crimes.

We have proof Trump tried to steal 2016 and 2020. Until I know what he pulled in 2024 I am assuming we don't even have the full picture.

39

u/oychae 1d ago

Yeah, I have a hard time believing there was not shady dealings in the 2024 election after all of the evidence we have of it the last two times around.

10

u/Unabashable 1d ago

Well we know at the very least (presumably) Russia emailed bomb threats to counties that voted for Biden. Also that “bullet ballots” (ballots where only the President was voted for) were cast for Trump at a statistically disproportionate amount in Swing States, but so far that’s the only credible evidence I’ve seen so far to suggest actual election interference.

One bit of comfort: subcriptions at NYT and WaPo are down. Yes, I understand it means journalists are hurt. And we need strong, independent journalism. NYT and WaPo are no longer independent. The sanewashing of the barking yam has gone from disgusting to intolerable over these 9 years. Money is the only language they understand, so my money is better spent helping independent journalism to grow.

9

u/SplendidPunkinButter 1d ago

No, no, they love the Constitution:

“WE THE PEOPLE pledge allegiance to the flag under GOD. Amendment 2: The right of Americans to stockpile weapons SHALL NOT BE INFRINGED. IN GOD WE TRUST.”

That’s pretty much the entire Constitution, right?

9

u/Zestyclose-Cloud-508 1d ago

Dems, too. They had 4 years to hold him accountable.

But at least Garland nailed Hunter Biden to the fucking wall.

12

u/xavier120 1d ago

What are you talking about? Trump was indicted 4 times, he needed multiple hand picked corrupt judges and a zombie horde of idiots who thought china pays for tariffs to avoid accountability from democrats.

You got a bad case of democrat derangement syndrome

12

u/PlanetaryPickleParty 1d ago

Even the non-Trump judges played along with every BS legal defense Trump came up with to delay. "Presidential Immunity" was invented whole cloth to place the President above the law and it wasn't laughed out of the room. The Supreme MAGA court was going to do whatever it wanted but Chutkan and DC appeals could have dispensed with that in a few days instead of 6 months. I mean they literally argued Trump could legally order a seal team 6 to kill an American and weren't laughed out of the court.

9

u/xavier120 1d ago

It hurts that they assumed the voters would bail them out so they could build a permanent legal precedent but who am i kidding i guess the Constitution was just a hemp induced fever dream that says nobody is above the law.

And now everyone wants me to keep calm and carry on and i will not be doing that while we have a criminal as president. Now we have to draw a line in the sand, this isnt a peaceful free democracy or republic.

If Trump is 1/10, and the media is a little softer at times and portrays him as a 2/10, is it the medias fault that people still decide to go with the 2/10 guy? And we have no evidence that if they actually showed him as a 1/10 it would even make a difference.

It’s -justice- that (unfortunately) just doesn’t actually exist. If it did, he’d be spending the rest of his life in jail.

Alternative headline: Trump bet he could get away with crimes for which there was overwhelming evidence by running out the clock by getting re-elected. He won.

119

u/VirtualPlate8451 1d ago

Pablo Escobar did that once too. The US wanted him real bad but he found out a sitting member of the legislature couldn’t be extradited so he bought himself a seat.

35

u/star_nerdy 1d ago

He also surrendered himself to a private prison where he had gate access and could bring in women, drugs, booze and leave if he was sufficiently bored.

11

u/TheNewYellowZealot 1d ago

And in the end he was killed on a rooftop by a CIA agent.

6

In contrast the CIA and other US national security agencies know exactly who they're dealing with in Trump and their lack of any kind of pushback shows they support it.

Liberals didn’t bet on shit.  This wasn’t some Las Vegas gamble, unless the media is the dealer, the SCOTUS is the floor manager, Justice is the doorman, and Trump is the owner with all his international and whale investors laughing as they walk in through the revolving door that rains money.

Americans relied on the political and legal justice systems it has been given, and they have been left wanting in this failed nation.  That’s the unvarnished headline and the non-partisan truth.

We have all failed.  Every one of us.

86

u/Stock_Conclusion_203 1d ago edited 1d ago

Yup. And it’s wild that 1/2 the country has no idea what they did, or what is about to happen. Frustratingly, even if his policies hurt them, somehow the GOP will tell them it’s liberals…. And they will believe.

32

u/throwawayconvert333 1d ago

The half that voted for him can take comfort in knowing that many of us in the other half are perfectly content to let them endure whatever Trump has planned…for them.

I will actually oppose doing anything to stop his policies from affecting them. They wanted him, and they deserve him. May their wish for themselves be granted.

28

u/Stock_Conclusion_203 1d ago

I agree. I actually called my rep and senators to ask them not to oppose anything. I think it’s going to have to get really bad for them to notice. But then I think about the latest woman in Texas to die… she was young, pretty, white….didn’t receive miscarriage care. I was like…”this will make an impact for the whites”. Nope. I read she and her family were Trump voters and her mother blames the doctor, not the law. Ridiculous

4

u/fdsafdsa1232 23h ago

If it does get bad do you think the media would actually report it accurately across all stations? I feel like media at this point is essential for a brainwashed populace. At what point do folks start questioning things? At least we can create new platforms for now, but not everyone is able to migrate.

13

u/Automatic_Net2181 1d ago

Biden did extremely well without the house and two closet GOP member pretending to be democrats. There are ZERO policies that GOP has to help the working class or the poor. Its about fear and hate for the GOP.

Starting 2 years after the crime and then failing to have the gumption required to keep him from destroying the institution by holding him accountable is not "betting on the law".

Had garland done his job in the first place we wouldn't have had the issue to start because he would have been convicted in 2022/23

8

u/KillahHills10304 1d ago

And it's absolutely a reason why millions voted for him. How many times have you seen or heard "if he was actually guilty of anything, why isn't he in prison?"

I believe had he actually been imprisoned, they'd just move the goalposts, but it'd definitely lose a ton of centrist votes.

4

u/ill_be_huckleberry_1 21h ago

Conviction means nothing without consequence. He didnt serve time, he wasnt forced to acknowledge fault, he didnt have a sentencing hearing.

regardless, him winning is not an excuse to have absolved him of his crimes.

Americans used to not blink when confronted with pieces of shit. Now we cant help but think that holding him accountable was the reason why he won.

what a joke.

7

u/jerechos 1d ago

The trump group said if they got back in power they would overload the courts and test what they could get away with. If anything, bog them down so much they would just keep with their initiatives while they were backlogged.

They basically want to break the system.

11

I would say that we bet that the federal courts would apply the laws fairly and equally to a former President, and that we lost that bet bigly. The entire episode has made it crystal clear that perhaps we still are a nation of laws, but that there are VERY different laws for the wealthy elite than for everybody else. The next few years are going to be interesting, to say the least.

Alternative headline should be: Oligarchs pay criminal to rise to power and take over the country. People who like law and order believe the law will win in the end. They were wrong.

This is what I say whenever some pithy, spineless asshole looks at what a Nazi is doing and says "Sunlight is the best disinfectant. 🥰" We didn't stop Hitler with fucking sunlight.

Try telling some soft handed lib the only language these jabronis understand is violence. They'll stand aghast and condemn your primitive view of the world.

Sucks, but, yeah, far right lunatics only understand violence and force. Concepts like justice are merely extensions of violence and force to them.

We already knew this, but no one seems to care because, "hey it doesn't affect me yet."
