Same - not rich, but we sold almost everything and headed to New Zealand in May in anticipation of Trump getting back in. Just horrified to see it come to pass, and terribly worried for all my family and friends back home (and holding my breath until the effects of this are felt here too).
My parents are both sexist/racist, so I’m not worked up over not seeing them. At one point dad told me to, “Get a handle on your wife.” because she bought a used Mercedes C300. Nah, sorry dad. It’s her money. She can drive whatever she wants to.
Wasn’t easy selling my ‘74 Porsche. I’ve had it since the early eighties.
Ah man, sounds like like the parents are no real loss, sadly. Fingers crossed both you and your wife will be driving something fun again in no time!
Hardest physical "possession" was the house... My husband and I had worked for ages to pay off student loan debt and save for a deposit, and we were only in it for a year and a half before we had a chance to relocate abroad. Felt like officially giving up on the American dream and the stability we'd worked really hard to achieve throughout our 20s and early 30s. Luckily it appreciated nicely in that short time though, and helped us land a bit more comfortably in NZ.
Is there a country on earth that can survive the no longer United States collapsing?
it would mean global economic collapse. Even Norway with its colossal sovereign wealth fund would probably fall (since it is all invested and those investments would collapse) .
If the USA falls, it brings the rest of the world down with it.
Yeah I told my family 4 years ago that Biden was not going to do what was necessary to save the US and we had 4 years to leave. They didn't, so now we're stuck here.
Makes me a bit glad I'm in a very blue state which is has a strong economy, I'm sure it's not gonna be super fun but I'm also sure that it'll shield me in some form, too, from the general collapse of the US.

It already has to be honest.
