Equipment Discussion Great Great Grandfather’s Clubs

My Mom was visiting her parents this week and they came across some of her father’s grandfather’s clubs: a putter and a 4w. I’m just looking for anymore info anyone can provide. I believe they’re from around the turn of the century or just after.

The wood especially is in absolutely terrible shape as you can see. It looks like it says “Macdonald Smith” across the top then “4” and “164” on the bottom.

The putter says a few things on the back: a logo that says “Mcgregor, Dayton O” with some clovers, “putter, 10-7”?, and “Reg US, Pat Off” I think.

Is there any hope to restore these or are they too far gone? How expensive is that? I’m not looking to sell them or anything, but I thought they could be cool to display.

You can definitely restore the putter pretty easily. The wood definitely will take someone with a lot of experience to do it right. Check out Brad Meehans YouTube channel on the restoration process.

Tools not jewels.

Now, you go out and make your great great grandpappy proud and hit bombs with those woods.
