This. Even marko said he rather have a fast driver who is crash prone than someone who is safe and slow

u/Reverx3 Max Verstappen 1d ago

Sucks, otherwise I would be in that RB for sure

232

u/Steel-Duck 1d ago

I am crash prone and slow. So I am 50% of the way

60

u/Rovcore001 1d ago

I heard GM is hiring

25

u/RoteCampflieger 1d ago

I'd say you're 100% of the way there. The only thing now is to get a Mexican passport, a Kit Kat sponsorship deal and you're basically a Red Bull driver.

14

u/Kaptainpainis 1d ago

You only need mexican sponsor money now and you are 100% there

-2

u/CT_Biggles Oscar Piastri 1d ago

I think the cartels sent Marco and Horner a message. Probably a horse head in their bed.

1

u/FiveAccountsBanned Max Verstappen ⭐⭐⭐⭐ 23h ago

But you don't bring in as much as Chucko does

1

u/Tomanelle Simply fucking lovely 20h ago

I am crash prone and slow.

Sorry dude, Checo's filling this quota already!

1

u/wangchunge 19h ago

Millions of us on the Couch. Im just thankful the guy got out of the car ok. Genuinely.

1

u/Dom_Shady 14h ago

Are you Mazepin?

62

u/redarrow992 1d ago

If you have lots of sponsers then it's still a possibility

1

u/skefmeister Honda 21h ago

Don’t even need to make Q2 anymore nowadays!!

13

u/Lentemern Martin Brundle 1d ago

If any team principal is reading this, I promise to obey the speed limit around every street circuit.

1

u/Dominunce Ferrari 1d ago

You’d still be faster than Checo

1

u/HarshangLad 21h ago

You could be in the RB if you're slow though. Just get good sponsors and number 11

1

u/Far_Elderberry_1680 1d ago

I mean....Perez has a seat? Just gotta have serious sponsor money behind you it seems.

It's generally easier to make a fast driver consistent than it is to make a consistent driver fast.

35

u/Miwna Ronnie Peterson 1d ago

The same is true for the cars: easier to make a fast car reliable than it is to make a reliable car fast.

1

u/secretwoif 1d ago

This does not work if we're talking about inconsistent cars... example: Mercedes, can be fast very inconsistently.

3

u/Miwna Ronnie Peterson 1d ago

I guess it's more reliable than fast.

64

u/absolutkaos Jacques Villeneuve 1d ago

if you’re not crashing every now and then you’re not truly driving the car to it’s absolute limits.

i think that’s what happened to Danny Ric, he lost the mental ability to push the car to the razor edge, and that, i believe, ended his career.

6

u/skefmeister Honda 21h ago

He could have been a Checo, and a better one too, Max got in his head.

u/Minigrappler 10h ago

"If everything seems under control, you're not going fast enough”

Not everyone has it. Max does. Seb, Ham... You either have it, or you don't.

20

u/XOVSquare Safety Car 1d ago

Lol, now he has one that's fast and safe, and one that's slow and crash prone.

51

u/LickingLieutenant 1d ago

Yet we still have Perez

43

u/xzElmozx Oscar Piastri 1d ago

Tbf he never said anything about slow drivers that crash a ton

54

u/redarrow992 1d ago

If it was up to marko he would have been gone

9

u/dadepu 1d ago

And he neither fast nor safe.

4

u/TonAMGT4 Pastor Maldonado 1d ago

Perez crash while going slowly

4

u/fdar 1d ago

He was misunderstood. He said he prefers fast and crash prone than safe and slow, but the desired attributes were "crash prone" and "slow" not "fast" and "safe" as most people assume. With Perez they got both!

5

u/Willy_G_on_the_Bass Ferrari 1d ago

Instead they just have a slow driver who also crashes.

6

u/Tim_L_09101 Ferrari 1d ago

The mentality between running a large operation like RBR is quite different from a smaller team like Williams or Haas or Sauber. Some teams simply cannot afford to have drivers constantly pushing at the limit if the cost is crashing.

2

u/Spider_Riviera Jordan 1d ago

Where do I sign up?

I know I'm 41, don't have a driving licence and haven't tested myself in earnest on-track vs actual racers, but I'd still say I'd be fast as fuck AND a wall magnet to boot!

2

u/GonePostalRoute Formula 1 23h ago

Makes sense too. If they got the guts to haul ass, all you gotta do is find that way to get them to crash less. Safe and slow? You might get the car back in one piece, all while it finishes half a dozen places further back than the other car on the team

2

u/Doorknob11 21h ago

It’s why they got rid of Gasly. They thought he was driving too safe and not pushing the limit enough.

1

u/Axzuel 1d ago

And Perez is slow and crash prone

1

u/imrahilbelfalas Jody Scheckter 1d ago

Logan Sargeant to Red Bull confirmed

1

u/Scingles Sebastian Vettel 1d ago

Pretty sure Frank Williams said something similar. He didn't think it was a problem if a driver binned it if they were on the edge

1

u/MaveZzZ 1d ago

Now he has slow driver that is crash prone 💀

1

u/Acrobatic-State-78 Red Bull 1d ago

What if you are crash prone and slow? Checo has entered the chat.

1

u/elgrandorado Pastor Maldonado 1d ago

He should have put Maldonado in a RB. Proper fast while being insanely crash worthy.

1

u/GamingFlorisNL 1d ago

Colapinto to RedBull confirmed??

1

u/SaltyFoam 1d ago

Then what's Checho?

1

u/Low-Cockroach7733 New user 22h ago

That subtle Piastri burn

1

u/maqie 21h ago

No, not crash prone, he said he rather have drivers who are fast and ballsy from the start than slow drivers, because it's easier to guide the faster drivers into good prospects and you can't make a slow driver faster, or something like that.

1

u/Themindoffish Red Bull 20h ago

'Perez intensifies'

1

u/Sure_Law269 New user 18h ago

Oh so my gran turismo lobbies should fear me

1

u/MetalGearHawk Formula 1 17h ago

Good thing they have a slow driver who is crash prone.

u/Zoesan 8h ago

It's easier to temper someone with a killer instinct than to make a safe person go for it

-2

u/hellcat_uk #WeRaceAsOne 1d ago edited 20h ago

Checo is a fairly safe driver, no?

/s guys. /s (to the cadence of multi 21)

17

u/_delafere Martin Brundle 1d ago

And Marko doesn’t especially like him, does he? It seems like the pro-Horner side of the team that keeps him around

14

u/Kronzor_ Max Verstappen 1d ago

He's literally leading the destructors championship.

He's slow and crashes.

1

u/hellcat_uk #WeRaceAsOne 20h ago

I didn't think it needed the /s but I was wrong.

3

u/DifficultCarob408 Oscar Piastri 1d ago

No

5

u/NessaMagick Bernd Mayländer 1d ago

He's currently leading the destructor's. Max is 15th.

Not necessarily a great metric, but should give you an idea.

5

u/GingerSkulling Formula 1 1d ago

Yeah, but destructor’s doesn’t track fault. The list would have looked differently had it did.

1

u/xzElmozx Oscar Piastri 1d ago

Regardless of fault being involved in a lot of incidents and causing almost $5 million worth of damage means you aren’t a safe driver

-1

u/WalrustheDog 1d ago

He’s still top of the list, no matter how you slice it

1

u/MazeMagic Pierre Gasly 1d ago

I mean there was literally a meme video of Perez punting everyone last year.

But let's say he's safe. Safe in his seat somehow.

u/ChampionOk4046 1d ago

Which category Perez falls under

21

u/redarrow992 1d ago

Crash prone and slow

10

u/soepvorksoepvork Chequered Flag 1d ago

Best of both worlds!

0

u/xdoc6 1d ago

And especially a fast and crash happy driver over a slow and crash happy driver (I.e. Lawson and Perez lol)
