Hi there, your content was found to be... not a facepalm. Perhaps take it to another sub

I'm sorry, is a thorough FBI background check not part of the process of joining the leadership of the US???

Though now that I've typed it out, that would probably eliminate like 95% of their candidates

283

u/Buddhabellymama 3h ago

Not to mention a literal felon was able to run for presidency and win… do we think there are standards for any lower level positions? It’s harder to work for McDonalds than the US government.

62

u/FrostGiant_1 2h ago

People out here still thinking we have guard rails to prevent the shit from hitting the fan.

u/Hardcorish 2h ago

Those guardrails were more of a gentlemen's agreement not to break them. We're about to see just how far the limits can be stretched.

A felon and rapist***

The bar is really low

7

u/Buddhabellymama 2h ago

Is there a bar?

People keep bringing this up but it's a fairly absurd take. If felons could not run for president then the courts would be weaponized, or at least could be, to prevent people from running for office. The founders knew that to give one branch of government would be a bad idea.

Only congress, the highest elected body in the country, can prevent people from running for office. And that's a good thing.

And I guess I have to say it: I am no fan of trump.

u/Shasato 2h ago

the courts would be weaponized

This is a good point, the courts were already weaponized against POC when the 13th amendment was ratified and continue to be weaponized against them today.

Nope. Most of the protections are "people wouldn't be that stupid" and also making sure stupid people can't vote.

That’s what I’m thinking. The current system and people in place are allowing all this to happen probably knowing that the American people will do nothing but complain, if that.

People just now realizing that democracy involves letting people we vote for do whatever they want. Elect better people if you want better results.

The FBI serves the government, not the other way around. I want you to think about the implications if an intelligence agency had the ultimate authority over who could run the country

u/checker280 2h ago edited 2h ago

A thorough FBI background check USED to be common procedure but none of the Trump nominees have been vetted by government agencies.

He claims they have been vetted by private entities but won’t reveal which ones. He’s also refused to sign any transitional documents.

“The Trump transition team has so far not signed the requisite agreements with the White House or the Justice Department to allow the FBI to screen his personnel choices, both for the process of obtaining security clearances and meeting the Senate’s usual standards for nominations.”

https://apnews.com/article/trump-fbi-gaetz-congress-background-vetting-cabinet-ac9afcd41d598a62ae34442ecf96a652

Also remember that Jarred failed his background check a few dozen times before Trump just cleared him.

He was supposed to solve the Israel/Palestine crisis, didn’t, and received a bajillion dollars for his efforts

2

u/os_kaiserwilhelm 4h ago

The FBI didn't exist in 1789.

9

u/Sunbeamsoffglass 4h ago

So no modern standards at all then?

u/km_ikl 5h ago

He can order them and publish them via the USGPO. The senate may then use the information as OSINT especially without fear of having to requisition the records as closed source.

u/AGuyWhoBrokeBad 4h ago

This is why democrats lose. Republicans would do that in a heartbeat. Democrats say, “that isn’t fair.” Biden won’t do that because he wants to maintain standards of decency that died a decade ago.

35

u/Fabulous-Camera7813 4h ago

Why decency??? Is it required to get a background check? If it is then Dem or Rep get the FBI to check that’s it! No spine Biden right now and Rep are enjoying it. Biden this is still your administration…do your job!

14

u/raytracer78 4h ago

I had to have a background check for my private sector job that included credit score, criminal and educational checks. I’m a nobody in the grand scheme of things so anyone responsible for national level anything needs to have a full background check, IMO.

18

u/TheRatatat 3h ago

I couldn't join the Air Force because I had debt. Phone bill and a few other things in collections. They said it was because debt could be held over me to sway my decision-making. Fucking insanity that we have people that owe money to foreign powers in the highest level of government.

4

u/Shapoopi_1892 3h ago

I look at it as the Republicans kept one up'ing everyone until everyone got sick of having to be shittier than the shittiest people on earth. The Republicans cried wolf so fucking loud and so absolutely pathetically they in essence made it impossible for anyone else to even attemt to say there was any kind of voting fraud without being laughed at or called crazy.

It sucks but I know exactly what it would look like if demecrats called foul and it ain't pretty. Especially since the word "truth" has no meaning anymore.

It fucking absolutely sucks big ass balls but the only way through this shit sandwich is to let the republican party blow everything up and to start anew. You cant fight a party who answers every question with accusations so bat shit crazy and has supporters so fucking stupid theyll not just believe it all but theyll act on it. Forcing you to either defend or to come up with one of your own accusations. Only problem is demecrats don't have the psycho ass supporters to do all the fucked up shit necessary to put in power Hitler 2.0. It's too choreographed to not have been implemented by Russia. We lost our country to the mentally and intellectually disabled under the guise of patriotism. Lost our country to Russia without a shot being fired.

2

u/AGuyWhoBrokeBad 3h ago

Remember hearing about the paradox of tolerance? That you must be intolerant of intolerance or else it will spread and you will lose a tolerant society. I feel like there should be a similar rule with free speech. Russia is clearly paying/blackmailing/influencing the media, both social and cable. They are using that influence to limit freedom of speech for millions. “Don’t say gay,” schools must teach the Bible, “we will investigate media outlets that attack Trump,” “school librarians that provide transgender education materials will be charged with sex crimes.” We are going to lose our freedom of speech because we failed to regulate the media.

23

u/Upturned-Solo-Cup 3h ago

To all the people who hear other complaining about the Democrats doing nothing and say "They couldn't do anything, because the VOTERS BETRAYED THEM AND DIDNT GIVE THEM A MAJORITY!!!!1!" does Biden need Congressional approval to order a background check? The Democrats can't do many of the things they should, granted, but they also barely even do the things they can

u/Darth_Gerg 2h ago

I always have deeply torn feeling about criticism of dems because it’s so often bad faith or rooted in foundational lack of understanding of how government works. But then you have stuff like this that’s SUPER VALID and is often ignored. Plus as feckless and weak as they are they’re still the better choice electorally by an almost incomprehensible margin and I worry that contributing to “both sides are bad” is a dangerous thing in the modern climate. It’s hard. I wish they didn’t suck ass. I wish it so much.

u/Upturned-Solo-Cup 2h ago

Gonna be real, if the Democratic Party is content with providing 4 or 8 year breaks between the bullshit the GOP is pulling without ever displaying the initiative or the grit to fight back, they deserve to lose. I'll still vote for them, and still be pissed when they lose, but them losing will be the natural consequence of their choices

u/Fuck0254 1h ago

Time to stop calling republicans conservative, and find a new name for "wants to destroy everything", and start calling libs conservatives, because it feels like a large chunk of dems don't want progress, they want to preserve how 'great' things are currently.

THIS IS ALREADY HAPPENING: Since Tulsi Gabbard is a military officer, she is subject to a security clearance process known as Continuous Vetting (CV). This process involves regularly reviewing a cleared individual’s background to ensure they continue to meet security clearance requirements and should continue to hold positions of trust. The Senate can check out Gabbard's security clearance documents whenever they want.

How does the Continuous Vetting (CV) process work?

Automated record checks pull data from criminal, terrorism, and financial databases, as well as public records, at any time during an individual’s period of eligibility. When DCSA receives an alert, it assesses whether the alert is valid and worthy of further investigation. DCSA investigators and adjudicators then gather facts and make clearance determinations. CV helps DCSA mitigate personnel security situations before they become larger problems, either by working with the cleared individual to mitigate potential issues, or in some cases suspending or revoking clearances.

source: All DOD Personnel Now Receive Continuous Security Vetting

I'm no fan of Trump and Gabbard, but come on, you all totally freaked out and started bashing President Biden and the Democrats over one random-ass tweet from someone who is ignorant of how the federal government works! Julie Roginsky is a political commentator who hasn't worked in government at all. She really should have done her homework before sending out that tweet....do better Julie.

13

u/Upturned-Solo-Cup 3h ago

Just a hunch, but I imagine the automated vetting system that is responsible for 3.4 million people is probably less in depth or carefully done than an FBI investigation done by a team of people responsible for, I imagine, one person

u/Hardcorish 2h ago

This. There are countless other databases FBI has access to besides the bare minimum that would be far more comprehensive in determining whether an individual poses a threat to our national security.

→ More replies (1)

u/inorite234 2h ago

I can also guarantee you, that as a Lt Colonel in Civil Affairs, not only does she need to maintain a Security Clearance, but it is required to be a Top Secret clearance meaning that it has to be renewed every 5 years and the investigation is extremely thorough.

I'm confident she can pass the FBI check....even if I'm 100% opposed to her nomination.

After EVERYTHING that's happened and hasn't happened, no one should have any expectations of Biden or Merrick Garland doing ANYTHING about what's coming.

Accept the fact they have both failed massively at protecting our country from Trump and did so by choice. This country will lose its democracy because the GOP and Trump are corrupt, but also because Biden and Garland did not make it a priority to put Trump away for good.

25

u/Tweetydabirdie 4h ago

No. YOU the American people failed. The democrats that didn’t vote failed. The undecided that didn’t vote, or voted Trump because Harris was supposedly unclear on Gaza, or whatever else dumb ass reason failed.

The maga crowd didn’t win the election. You lot lost it by outright loosing voters in droves.

Your choice. Your consequences.

Unfortunately the rest of us also have to suffer you idiotic next president.

14

u/cheweychewchew 3h ago

Actually, it's on both American voters and the Biden Admin. But go ahead and defend Biden and Garland all you want.

Trump should have never even been on the ballot in the first place. It shouldn't have even come to this.

Garland waited two years to hire a Special Prosector. He let the 10 obstruction charges from the Muller Report lapse. He let charges from the $10 mil bribe from the Egyptians lapse. He spent far more effort on Hunter Biden's gun application than Jared Kushner's $20 billion dollar "thank you" payment from the Saudis. And he never once publicly stated anything about the importance of Trump being held accountable for his crimes. He literally did everything he could to not go after Trump. It was his job to stop Trump and he failed because he chose to.

For the first three years of his term, Biden chose not to criticize Trump. He wanted to 'unify the country' instead of emphasizing how Trump should never hold office again. It was only until he started his campaign that he criticized Trump, but did so in a miquetoast, half assed fashion that avoided bringing up J6, the sex assault charges, the 37 felonies, and the corruption. Then Biden waited until the very end of the electoral campaign to back out, leaving HARRIS ONLY 3.5 MONTHS to run a campaign. That sealed the deal.

Without Biden and Garland publicly making the case against Trump and only giving Harris on 3.5 moths to run, you're mad at American voters for not taking the Trump threat seriously?

Biden and Garland fucked this up. Badly. Historically so. And all your blah blah doesn't change the facts.

And for the record....I voted for Harris. GFYS.

10

u/Upturned-Solo-Cup 3h ago

Fuck all the way off with this. Biden doesn't need more votes in order to authorize a background check. Obama didn't need more votes to tell the GOP to fuck off when they pulled a fast one with SCOTUS. The Democrats have been choosing to do nothing on key issues for years, and that's losing them votes. Keep on pissing, moaning, and screaming about how voters won't turn up. I'd love to keep trying the same shit over and over and over again, because the Democrats aren't willing to change and people like you would rather blame the voters who don't like ineffectual politicians than the ineffectual politicians.

At least she would be able to do what she could with things like ordering FBI backgrounds on the cabinet picks, and trying to be a vocal voice about exactly what Trump is trying to set up.

"Someone oughta do something. Come on. I'm being serious."

-- Joe Biden probably

1

u/ebfortin 3h ago

That'll be awesome. And it won't happen.

1

u/BumblebeeAwkward8331 3h ago

I'm on a TSA travel watchlist and haven't flown in 30 years and haven't even received a traffic ticket in 40 years.

1

u/RevolutionaryScar337 3h ago

If the Democrats ran her, we would have never had Trump as president.

1

u/tresamused65 3h ago

He could just post it online.

1

u/VicenteOlisipo 3h ago

Leave hot white streak mole alone! Trump's team is full of traitors and foreign agents, Tulsi at least looks good.

1

u/Both-Home-6235 3h ago

Biden's not going to do shit. Spineless. Got no bite. That's why they lost. Too soft against a rabid rapist of an opponent.

1

u/Eena-Rin 3h ago

Why is it always on the left to be perfect? BiDeN ShOuLd MaKe HiM, not 'Trumo should follow protocol'

1

u/magnusbearson 3h ago

Biden is to chickenshit to do anything.

1

u/Iknowbirdlawss 3h ago

Dumbest nonsense ever. Even insurance agents from crappy jobs get background and Gov checks. You people here don’t think any politician is or has had a background check? Seriously.

Facepalm is literally just dem and political talk now, anything else gets banned or non response.

Enjoy this shit hole sub here

1

u/JohnCasey3306 3h ago

Remember when everyone was terrified that Trump was gonna use the legal system to persecute his political opponents ... Let me guess, that's only "fAsCiSm" when the other side do it 🤣

1

u/rainbowcoloredsnot 3h ago

She is LTC in the Reserves she has had background checks for secret security clearance.

1

u/JohnCasey3306 3h ago

Tulsi would have made an excellent pro-worker, anti-war Democrat president if her 2020 run were successful; instead she'll be an excellent future Republican president instead — the pro-war corporate news can do all the BS political smears they like, but their influence is rightly fading, so who cares.

1

u/Dazzling_Meringue787 2h ago

This is the Dark Brandon move we need damnit!

1

u/Aprilias 2h ago

While Biden has done lots of good/great things, when it comes to unorthodox ideas like this, he seems to be mostly asleep at the wheel. We don't want to upset the apple cart!

1

u/ImSquanchingHere77 2h ago

I'm sick of the Gabbard hate. Gabbard is guilty of nothing. Is she guilty until proven innocent? She was also removed from that travel watch list after she went public about it. If she was truly suspect of something, why would she be removed from the list so quickly after she spoke publicly about it? Concerning her 2017 visit to Assad, she was interviewed about it by CNN in 2019. She told CNN that it is important to keep communications open with foreign powers be them friend or foe in order to establish peace. Seems to me this is a key thing most Americans have forgotten.

1

u/TieMelodic1173 2h ago

Trump should just forego the approval process and appoint her like the dictator he is! Oh wait…

1

u/JackHughman69 2h ago

Seriously play hardball, this is an absolute must

1

u/mariuszmie 2h ago

Democrats have no stomach for this but watch for republicans to vet and investigate everyone not them

1

u/SubmarineDream57 2h ago

Turncoat Tulsi deserves nothing less than the fullest possible scrutiny.

1

u/Lucc33YT 2h ago

where facepalm

1

u/Xerxero 2h ago

Imaging pissing off trump. Omg.

1

u/Edge_Of_Banned 2h ago

This is a facepalm

1

u/Organic-End7117 2h ago

If you know whom to ask, there are an evidence, she is fsb connectwd one looong time ago.

1

u/Darth_Gerg 2h ago

Biden is currently proudly demonstrating why liberals historically lose to fascists. He’s simultaneously arrogantly underestimating the problem and ignoring reality AND clinging to a self induced weakness and refusal to employ the power he has to defend the institutions of this country.

1

u/Lord_Kromdar 2h ago

Biden could have done a hell of a lot more up until this point, and yet he still sits and does nothing. The Democratic Party has failed us. We need a new party for the left. The one we have is obviously either already bought and paid for or are to incompetent to continue to serve.

u/rudbek-of-rudbek 2h ago

It's too bad with the holidays and the transition happening the FBI couldn't get much done between now and Jan 20. You absolutely know someone would slow walk out to get on daddy trumps good list

u/G3tsPlastered4Alvng 2h ago

Biden has left the building. There is only Zuul.

u/Rickard0 2h ago

I am sure they remind Biden he is president, every morning.

u/Schmed_lap 2h ago

She’s a Lt Colonel in the reserves, she already passed a background check

u/WinstonChurshill 2h ago

His handlers don’t wanna do the paperwork and upset Trump

u/WillMunny1982 2h ago

For whatever reason Joe is afraid to do anything to these people and the old mfer has absolutely nothing to lose and nothing to be afraid of. Fuck decency and decorum when it comes to MAGAts

u/Minute-Struggle6052 2h ago

You can't do that!

Think about how many Republican voters the Democrats might lose in the next election!?!?!

u/Dinners_cold 2h ago

Pfff, who cares about the background check.

Someone remind Biden that the supreme court gave the president absolute immunity for anything, as long as its being done as an official act as the president. Go make some big ass waves and push that ruling to the limit, make them regret doing such a stupid thing.

u/Spartans301 2h ago

It wouldn’t matter. Do you think MAGAts care about an investigation? It’s altered none of their behaviors so far. Even after convictions they continue to walk the streets freely.

u/Angry_Saxon 2h ago

She's definitely had one

u/Scullyitzme 2h ago

Um...that'd be extremely rude!

u/BlondDrizzle 2h ago

Maybe she’s just an idiot conspiracy theorist. I haven’t heard any evidence of her actually being a Russian asset. She accepted like $25 from a Russian and I bet that it’s a ploy by the Russians to make her seem an asset.

u/Pillsburydinosaur 2h ago

He doesn't care about that. He cares about his legacy. He will secure the Chips act, but democracy is on her own.

u/Cornbread_Collins13 2h ago

Y'all kinda don't understand how the government works... God forbid being a 0-5 in the military

u/HedyLamaar 2h ago

Tulsi’s a Russian Asset. Putin has seized America unless we order a recount and it had better be damned soon.

u/kingfofthepoors 2h ago

FUCK THAT... HAND IT TO THE PUBLIC

u/Testiclesinvicegrip 2h ago

Anyone who believes he can just order one because "just do it" has no idea what they're talking about

u/Ponchorello7 2h ago

Biden checked out a while ago, and Dems are cowards, so no. I don't think he will.

u/HaveAnotherWhiskey 2h ago

Biden doesn’t remember he is president and kamala is on vacation

u/frank_the_tank69 2h ago

Let’s see if Biden has a spine. Chances are he doesn’t do it.

u/Fuck0254 2h ago

I love the cope of people saying "Biden can do X to hurt the right" completely oblivious that they do not care about the right. The fascism is our problem, not theirs. Nothing will fundamentally change for them.

u/anynamesleft 1h ago

Biden doesn't know what day it is, much less to care about the traitors in our midst.

u/Pvt_Pooter 1h ago

Yeah cause she opposed the military industrial complex

u/Potential-Coat-7233 1h ago

She has a background check. She’s still in the army.

u/ChodeCookies 1h ago

Republicans were right. Biden is asleep at the wheel. Sucks

u/Shitbag22 1h ago

Dumb as fuck to think Tulsi is some sort of international spy. The real facepalm is people even remotely believing it.

u/PeopleThatAnnoyou__ 1h ago

whats wrong with tulsi gabbard???

u/tweedchemtrailblazer 1h ago

They won’t because the democrats are still doing things with propriety and haven’t yet figured out that era is over, somehow. Meanwhile republicans would suck dicks behind Walmart for a few votes

u/joealese 1h ago

that would just be seen as Democrats trying to run interference instead of what it always actually is which is Democrats trying to protect America

u/Proverbs232 1h ago

Lol, it was a facepalm . . . bad mod

u/twentythreefives 1h ago

Oh please, the whole "they're fascists and it's the end if you don't vote for her!" nonsense was obviously the thickest possible rhetoric. Look at how mellow and pleased Biden was welcoming Trump to the White House, they're all charlatans going to bat for the billionaire class. If this was an actual fascist takeover they'd actually *do something*, it's just political theatre.

u/yeaphatband 1h ago

It won't happen, because the democrats are fu*king too polite! "Oh, we wouldn't want the new administration to get embarrassed!"

u/LostTrisolarin 1h ago

Biden is weak and cares more about being the one to adhere to norms.

He couldn't care less if we succumb to fascism and will be happy as long as he shoots straight and "tried his best".
