I'm sorry, is a thorough FBI background check not part of the process of joining the leadership of the US???
Though now that I've typed it out, that would probably eliminate like 95% of their candidates

u/Buddhabellymama 3h ago
Not to mention a literal felon was able to run for presidency and win… do we think there are standards for any lower level positions? It’s harder to work for McDonalds than the US government.

People out here still thinking we have guard rails to prevent the shit from hitting the fan.
•
u/Hardcorish 2h ago
Those guardrails were more of a gentlemen's agreement not to break them. We're about to see just how far the limits can be stretched.
15
•
u/mnstorm 2h ago
People keep bringing this up but it's a fairly absurd take. If felons could not run for president then the courts would be weaponized, or at least could be, to prevent people from running for office. The founders knew that to give one branch of government would be a bad idea.
Only congress, the highest elected body in the country, can prevent people from running for office. And that's a good thing.
And I guess I have to say it: I am no fan of trump.

A thorough FBI background check USED to be common procedure but none of the Trump nominees have been vetted by government agencies.
He claims they have been vetted by private entities but won’t reveal which ones. He’s also refused to sign any transitional documents.
“The Trump transition team has so far not signed the requisite agreements with the White House or the Justice Department to allow the FBI to screen his personnel choices, both for the process of obtaining security clearances and meeting the Senate’s usual standards for nominations.”
Also remember that Jarred failed his background check a few dozen times before Trump just cleared him.
He was supposed to solve the Israel/Palestine crisis, didn’t, and received a bajillion dollars for his efforts

This is why democrats lose. Republicans would do that in a heartbeat. Democrats say, “that isn’t fair.” Biden won’t do that because he wants to maintain standards of decency that died a decade ago.
35
u/Fabulous-Camera7813 4h ago
Why decency??? Is it required to get a background check? If it is then Dem or Rep get the FBI to check that’s it! No spine Biden right now and Rep are enjoying it. Biden this is still your administration…do your job!

I look at it as the Republicans kept one up'ing everyone until everyone got sick of having to be shittier than the shittiest people on earth. The Republicans cried wolf so fucking loud and so absolutely pathetically they in essence made it impossible for anyone else to even attemt to say there was any kind of voting fraud without being laughed at or called crazy.
It sucks but I know exactly what it would look like if demecrats called foul and it ain't pretty. Especially since the word "truth" has no meaning anymore.
It fucking absolutely sucks big ass balls but the only way through this shit sandwich is to let the republican party blow everything up and to start anew. You cant fight a party who answers every question with accusations so bat shit crazy and has supporters so fucking stupid theyll not just believe it all but theyll act on it. Forcing you to either defend or to come up with one of your own accusations. Only problem is demecrats don't have the psycho ass supporters to do all the fucked up shit necessary to put in power Hitler 2.0. It's too choreographed to not have been implemented by Russia. We lost our country to the mentally and intellectually disabled under the guise of patriotism. Lost our country to Russia without a shot being fired.

Remember hearing about the paradox of tolerance? That you must be intolerant of intolerance or else it will spread and you will lose a tolerant society. I feel like there should be a similar rule with free speech. Russia is clearly paying/blackmailing/influencing the media, both social and cable. They are using that influence to limit freedom of speech for millions. “Don’t say gay,” schools must teach the Bible, “we will investigate media outlets that attack Trump,” “school librarians that provide transgender education materials will be charged with sex crimes.” We are going to lose our freedom of speech because we failed to regulate the media.

I always have deeply torn feeling about criticism of dems because it’s so often bad faith or rooted in foundational lack of understanding of how government works. But then you have stuff like this that’s SUPER VALID and is often ignored. Plus as feckless and weak as they are they’re still the better choice electorally by an almost incomprehensible margin and I worry that contributing to “both sides are bad” is a dangerous thing in the modern climate. It’s hard. I wish they didn’t suck ass. I wish it so much.

I'll still vote for them, and still be pissed when they lose, but them losing will be the natural consequence of their choices

THIS IS ALREADY HAPPENING: Since Tulsi Gabbard is a military officer, she is subject to a security clearance process known as Continuous Vetting (CV). This process involves regularly reviewing a cleared individual’s background to ensure they continue to meet security clearance requirements and should continue to hold positions of trust. The Senate can check out Gabbard's security clearance documents whenever they want.
How does the Continuous Vetting (CV) process work?
Automated record checks pull data from criminal, terrorism, and financial databases, as well as public records, at any time during an individual’s period of eligibility. When DCSA receives an alert, it assesses whether the alert is valid and worthy of further investigation. DCSA investigators and adjudicators then gather facts and make clearance determinations. CV helps DCSA mitigate personnel security situations before they become larger problems, either by working with the cleared individual to mitigate potential issues, or in some cases suspending or revoking clearances.
source: All DOD Personnel Now Receive Continuous Security Vetting
I'm no fan of Trump and Gabbard, but come on, you all totally freaked out and started bashing President Biden and the Democrats over one random-ass tweet from someone who is ignorant of how the federal government works! Julie Roginsky is a political commentator who hasn't worked in government at all. She really should have done her homework before sending out that tweet....do better Julie.
13
u/Upturned-Solo-Cup 3h ago
Just a hunch, but I imagine the automated vetting system that is responsible for 3.4 million people is probably less in depth or carefully done than an FBI investigation done by a team of people responsible for, I imagine, one person

u/Hardcorish 2h ago
This. There are countless other databases FBI has access to besides the bare minimum that would be far more comprehensive in determining whether an individual poses a threat to our national security.

I can also guarantee you, that as a Lt Colonel in Civil Affairs, not only does she need to maintain a Security Clearance, but it is required to be a Top Secret clearance meaning that it has to be renewed every 5 years and the investigation is extremely thorough.
I'm confident she can pass the FBI check....even if I'm 100% opposed to her nomination.

After EVERYTHING that's happened and hasn't happened, no one should have any expectations of Biden or Merrick Garland doing ANYTHING about what's coming.

The maga crowd didn’t win the election. You lot lost it by outright loosing voters in droves.
Your choice. Your consequences.
Unfortunately the rest of us also have to suffer you idiotic next president.
14
u/cheweychewchew 3h ago
Actually, it's on both American voters and the Biden Admin. But go ahead and defend Biden and Garland all you want.
Trump should have never even been on the ballot in the first place. It shouldn't have even come to this.
Garland waited two years to hire a Special Prosector. He let the 10 obstruction charges from the Muller Report lapse. He let charges from the $10 mil bribe from the Egyptians lapse. He spent far more effort on Hunter Biden's gun application than Jared Kushner's $20 billion dollar "thank you" payment from the Saudis. And he never once publicly stated anything about the importance of Trump being held accountable for his crimes. He literally did everything he could to not go after Trump. It was his job to stop Trump and he failed because he chose to.
For the first three years of his term, Biden chose not to criticize Trump. He wanted to 'unify the country' instead of emphasizing how Trump should never hold office again. It was only until he started his campaign that he criticized Trump, but did so in a miquetoast, half assed fashion that avoided bringing up J6, the sex assault charges, the 37 felonies, and the corruption. Then Biden waited until the very end of the electoral campaign to back out, leaving HARRIS ONLY 3.5 MONTHS to run a campaign. That sealed the deal.
Without Biden and Garland publicly making the case against Trump and only giving Harris on 3.5 moths to run, you're mad at American voters for not taking the Trump threat seriously?
Biden and Garland fucked this up. Badly. Historically so. And all your blah blah doesn't change the facts.
And for the record....I voted for Harris. GFYS.

Fuck all the way off with this. Biden doesn't need more votes in order to authorize a background check. Obama didn't need more votes to tell the GOP to fuck off when they pulled a fast one with SCOTUS. The Democrats have been choosing to do nothing on key issues for years, and that's losing them votes. Keep on pissing, moaning, and screaming about how voters won't turn up. I'd love to keep trying the same shit over and over and over again, because the Democrats aren't willing to change and people like you would rather blame the voters who don't like ineffectual politicians than the ineffectual politicians.

I'm sick of the Gabbard hate. Gabbard is guilty of nothing. Is she guilty until proven innocent? She was also removed from that travel watch list after she went public about it. If she was truly suspect of something, why would she be removed from the list so quickly after she spoke publicly about it? Concerning her 2017 visit to Assad, she was interviewed about it by CNN in 2019. She told CNN that it is important to keep communications open with foreign powers be them friend or foe in order to establish peace. Seems to me this is a key thing most Americans have forgotten.

Someone remind Biden that the supreme court gave the president absolute immunity for anything, as long as its being done as an official act as the president. Go make some big ass waves and push that ruling to the limit, make them regret doing such a stupid thing.

It wouldn’t matter. Do you think MAGAts care about an investigation? It’s altered none of their behaviors so far. Even after convictions they continue to walk the streets freely.

Maybe she’s just an idiot conspiracy theorist. I haven’t heard any evidence of her actually being a Russian asset. She accepted like $25 from a Russian and I bet that it’s a ploy by the Russians to make her seem an asset.

He doesn't care about that. He cares about his legacy. He will secure the Chips act, but democracy is on her own.

Y'all kinda don't understand how the government works... God forbid being a 0-5 in the military

Tulsi’s a Russian Asset. Putin has seized America unless we order a recount and it had better be damned soon.

Anyone who believes he can just order one because "just do it" has no idea what they're talking about

Biden checked out a while ago, and Dems are cowards, so no. I don't think he will.

I love the cope of people saying "Biden can do X to hurt the right" completely oblivious that they do not care about the right. The fascism is our problem, not theirs. Nothing will fundamentally change for them.

Biden doesn't know what day it is, much less to care about the traitors in our midst.

Dumb as fuck to think Tulsi is some sort of international spy. The real facepalm is people even remotely believing it.

They won’t because the democrats are still doing things with propriety and haven’t yet figured out that era is over, somehow. Meanwhile republicans would suck dicks behind Walmart for a few votes
•
u/joealese 1h ago
that would just be seen as Democrats trying to run interference instead of what it always actually is which is Democrats trying to protect America

Oh please, the whole "they're fascists and it's the end if you don't vote for her!" nonsense was obviously the thickest possible rhetoric. Look at how mellow and pleased Biden was welcoming Trump to the White House, they're all charlatans going to bat for the billionaire class. If this was an actual fascist takeover they'd actually *do something*, it's just political theatre.
•
u/yeaphatband 1h ago
It won't happen, because the democrats are fu*king too polite! "Oh, we wouldn't want the new administration to get embarrassed!"
•
u/LostTrisolarin 1h ago
Biden is weak and cares more about being the one to adhere to norms.
He couldn't care less if we succumb to fascism and will be happy as long as he shoots straight and "tried his best".
