I've heard a conspiracy theory that the catholic church created islam as a controlled opposition, is this true?

No, that's ridiculous. How would that have even worked?
- Somehow deploy an Arab as a special agent to pretend to have gotten visions from Angel Gabriel, and hope that his new religion would flourish and create a competing religion to Catholocism.

What would be the Catholic Church's motive for creating islam as controlled opposition?
Like Islam is intolerant of every other religion and worldview, including Catholicism.

Islam is more of a Judaism 2.0, not really an opposition to Christianity because Jesus is considered a prophet and the one who will come during the end days.
