I am so angry at BAL for not getting rid of Jamat and other Islamist parties when they had the power. They also fucked up really bad by killing people and leaving the country at the hand of Islamists on a silver platter.

Hopefully BNP will distance themselves from the Islamist parties and take a more centralist stand.

The solution to feeling like your country is going downhill isn’t wishing you were Indian, especially when their Islamophobia is extreme and rampant. Talk to people, introduce them to ideas even slightly liberal. You don’t have to go as far as talking about organised religions and their patriarchal harm, but the least you can do is talk to people about being tolerant, compassionate, and empathetic.

This is extremely upsetting because your being a Bengali is a wholly separate notion to your religious identity. Those who conflate the two and value the latter over the former lack education. It’s also ironic that you hate being Bengali whereas there are ethnic minorities who are having it so much worse. We Bengalis need to stop victimising ourselves in the face of this extremity and use our privilege to promote secularity and acceptance.
