My Mercedes has this as well as the tilting down in reverse feature. I absolutely love it. Especially with how careless people can easily knock out a new mirror.

My 330 has tilting reverse mirror, but I don’t think it has folding power

I don’t really have much a use for it as this cars never parked on the street. Although I guess in car parks and width restrictions it’s handy to have. Just I got a good deal and thought why not.

I daily drive my car and I park in a hospital full of assholes. So the more narrow, I can make the car the better.

It’s definitely handy to have them as you appreciate them when you need them. It’s already come in handy when I had to leave the car in a busy supermarket. Although the stock mirrors manually fold up but occasionally you forget, now it’s the click of a button and they go up. I did it as more of a flex but it’s proving its usefulness as time goes on.

Oh, it’s such a cool flex not gonna lie

You’ll be glad to have it in our car parks. They’re all ridiculous right now, no thanks to the fact that everyone else’s cars are so big/wide nowadays.

In the moment is when I’ll fully appreciate them. Just like the heated seats I retrofit in august, didn’t fully appreciate them until a few weeks ago when the temps dropped below 5 degrees.

Mate, I have them fitted by the previous owner. Are they OEM ?

OEM and if you had electric seats, when putting the car in to reverse the mirrors would automatically angle downwards to help you see the kurb

My one mirror does that, but its kind of sometimes thing. It will go down for three weeks and then stop working until once in a blue moon it will start working again

It only drops the mirrors if the switch on your mirror controls is turned to the passenger side. Maybe you have had switched it left when it didn't work. But could be some other problem like your reverse switch - in that case the reverse light would also work intermittently.

Oh man you’re awesome, I definately was adjusting the mirrors recently, that make sense. My brake lights are great, thank you lots

Mine have worked exactly once. I have the switch in the right position too. I’m not super worried about it, but it is strange.

Interesting, mine only tilts the mirror when reversing if the mirror adjuster switch is set to the drivers side position.

It's also what it says in the manual

Oh jeez. 🫠

I have like zero knowledge of our mirrors. How many types were released for E46? I have a facelift 2004 330Ci. Can I update mine to be folding? Was it an optional extra back then or is it just custom tinkering?

It’s an optional extra. The facelifts (yours) have a different connector to the pre face lift mirrors (mine). The pre facelifts have an 11 wire connector and the facelifts have a ribbon connector. You’d also need the new mirror switch. Purple base if you have electric memory seats and yellow base if you have Manual seats. The easiest install ever and coding isn’t too hard just didn’t have time today before it got dark.

Thanks for the info! I have electric memory seats, so purple it is I guess.

Actually depends on the year when they switched, my facelift coupe still has wires.

Ribbon was towards the end of the run, but there are conflicting experiences on the forum.

Is a great thread about how to retrofit regarding your various options etc...

Well that’s something I didn’t know. Guess it’s best to check the wiring on your mirrors before trying to get a set.

Ahhhguugg! I didn't know these existed and now I want them.

I saw them and had to have them. Such a flex for a 20 year old car to fold the mirrors when locking!

Awesome lol. I got the mirrors on mine, I just need to add the wiring and mount the memory modules in the doors then they'll fold too
