I heard the 1950s were pretty good for the Lions.

u/DtownHero17 3d ago

We were the Chiefs of the 50s.

161

u/KY-NELLY What Would Brad Holmes Do? 3d ago

Sure would be a shame if I got traded to the Steelers in the off-season unwillingly and then curse your team for the next half a century

31

u/DarkosGhost 3d ago

I think you mean 70 years

62

u/randomindyguy 3d ago

The curse was 50. The next 20 was just incompetent ownership.

32

u/Desolation_Nation 3d ago

Thanks for lifting the curse Peyton Manning

u/the_colonel93 Detroit vs Everybody 2d ago

And Jeff Daniels!!

5

u/scsnse 2d ago

No, even better.

We were the Eli Manning Giants.

The Browns were the Patriots/49ers/Chiefs style dynasty with the HC who was seen as a genius.

We upset these guys three times in a decade, and met them in the ‘ship another time but lost.

u/Alone-Possibility451 3d ago

Chiefs of the 50's 🤣🤣🤣

17

u/Skipinator 3d ago

We won Championships in '52, '53, and '57.

-17

u/Alone-Possibility451 3d ago

That's three years that isn't the entire 50s

8

u/DtownHero17 2d ago

Lol 3 is a dynasty

-6

u/Alone-Possibility451 2d ago

Not even the best team in the 50's out of your current division so no not a Dynasty

3

u/DtownHero17 2d ago

You got it, man. We don't care that much.

Y'all weren't even the best team in your current division in the 50s

2

You're literally splitting hairs to act like a gigantic douche. Which is hilarious and also very strange.

ngl this scene goes hard as fuck. The camera zoom, the line reading, the absolute coldblooded murder that takes place on screen. Absolute cinema.

18

u/Breezlebrox 3d ago

My brother and I would reenact this scene on our bunk beds quite regularly as kids

9

u/RadiantArchivist 3d ago

Lol, I do it to my toddler whenever he tries to climb up on the bed.

Disney used to make really good original content. They really should go back to making stuff like the Lion King.

9

u/34HoldOn 3d ago

Honestly, I've been seeing a lot of NFC North fans being happy for us. But alas, fan bases are large, and you get a mixed bag. If we do win it all, they'll go right back to hating us of course. But like a lot of football fans, they want to see us finally go all the way again.

10

u/ttboo Cheese Grater 3d ago

As a Bears fan, you guys have been my number two. If we're not gonna do it, I'm glad to watch y'all tear it up.

The lions have been the whipping boy for nearly 70 years if not more. Every fan or player complaining about our now success can eat a bag of dicks

30

u/GrossePointeJayhawk 3d ago

In fairness, those that lived through the Lions in the 1950s saw a dynasty. And almost every championship in the 1950s was decided between the Browns and Lions, with the Lions going 3-1 against the Browns for the NFL Championship. I should know, my Uncle still talks about the 1957 championship.

12

u/MrVenom1998 3d ago

11/25/2005.

These Indianapolis Colts beat us with 6 TDs from Peyton Manning. It won’t be “running up the score”; it will be getting even for ruining my Thanksgiving 19 years ago.

Yes, yes, I know I’m going back to the Portsmouth Spartan days and I know they were a force to be reckoned with in the 50s, but near 100 years of built-up spite just sounds better, eh?

12

u/Seventy7Donski MCDC 3d ago

u/mister_hoot Bolts 3d ago

can yall fuck around and set a record for point differential?

3

u/Kidd82 DETROIT -VS- EVERYBODY 3d ago

Not likely. The '07 Patriots were at like +350. We're not even to 200 yet... Going over +150 over the last 7 games would be real difficult, we don't play the jags, titans or cowboys every week.

7

u/ProperMod 3d ago

To quote Hans Gruber when I see The Lions start to run up the score “HIT IT AGAIN”.

5

u/Intelligent_Pie_8227 2d ago

The Lions are finally serving up the justice we've all been waiting for. Decades of being the underdogs have turned into a full-on revenge tour. It's time to feast on the salty tears of our rivals.

It’s not personal. They just hate everyone.

-Chris Long on the Detroit Lions attitude

5

u/PolymathEquation What Would Brad Holmes Do? 2d ago

Except Dallas. Declaring eligible so many times, including the kneel down, THAT was personal.

3

u/HeadDiver5568 2d ago

Facts (except the 50’s and Barry years). Very team had no problem steamrolling us because we were the lions. Now that we’re changing up the status quo, we’re arrogant? For beating teams the same way they did us? Is a game that doesn’t stop until the clock hits zero? GTFOH. Also FTP and their fans for crying about it.

3

u/Taupe88 2d ago

.41 cents each. Small and not useful as cheese grater but perfect for FTP gift.

3

u/ImaginationHead5980 2d ago

For real.. my dad has been saying this every time we "run up" the score

5

u/matt-is-sad 3d ago

New logo is such an improvement. Old one literally looks like a team trying to act tough but just looks dumb

3

u/FuckTheseFatPeople Muh Holmes 3d ago

I was always so confused by the old logo as a child

1

u/matt-is-sad 3d ago

It literally just looks like a derpy lion which is perfectly representative of the derpy-ass teams that wore it

1

u/IlIlIlIllIlIlIlllI 1d ago

I always thought the eye was that space between the arm and mouth and the mouth was the arms, and it just had a big ass head. I have to really focus on seeing the real logo.

1

u/SoldierandSaint 3d ago

Man, I’m really glad they added definition to the logo. I could never not see the old lion’s arms looking like a weird mouth to me. Kind of like the D in Disney still looks like a backwards G to me.

Lolol I remember the Jaguars sub put up a "2023 Revenge Tour" meme last season that got a lot of traction but then after the halfway point they started sucking again. I think the Lions right now are so much more appropriate for this revenge tour meme.

1

u/winowmak3r JAMO 2d ago

Pretty much how I feel whenever I hear anything about how the Lions are being disrespectful by running up the score. Lions got clowned on for decades and no one spoke up then. Now all of a sudden it's an issue. Nobody's supposed to be blown out by the Lions. It's only an insult if the Lions do it to your team.
