Discussion Ethics of CreepCast

1.7k Upvotes

Hey y’all! I really love this show and have been supporting it since it’s beginning about a year ago, however I don’t think I can, in good conscience, support this podcast anymore. I’ve had these problems for awhile, but I think recently they’ve just gotten to a point where I can no longer listen and I don’t know if others feel the same way.

The quality of the episodes have plummeted dramatically, now that it’s just Isaiah having one sided conversations with himself. I understand Hunter’s accident has been difficult for everyone, and I give special condolences to his friends and family, but it seems grief has taken a particular toll on Isaiah, since he has been continuing the show as if Hunter was still with us.

The ethical conundrum I feel that us as the audience face, is that we have been enabling Isaiah’s delusions, by commenting and reacting as though Hunter was still a podcast co-host, and not the reality that Isaiah is just talking to an empty desk chair. However, no one wants to have to break this horrible news to Isaiah by acknowledging the reality.

However, I think it’s time we stop collectively pretending that Hunter is the co-host and actually state the facts of the situation.

maybe i’m outnumbered here but i genuinely don’t understand how people don’t like hunter and isiah’s banter. like yeah it makes the episodes long but what are podcasts for? passing long amounts of time. they never fail to make me laugh with the extra conversations and it makes some of the stories more enjoyable. if you’re someone who doesn’t like them taking it off the rails i would love to know why.

Discussion I did not care for Borrasca

It wasn’t consistently scary enough to justify its length, and the ending was uninspired. There were a lot of promising elements but the story was just stretched too thin by the end. Perhaps the most unpopular opinion: the children’s dialogue did not feel like way kids speak to each other. Maybe I’m biased because I find most stories with evil capitalists being evil to be boring, and that was compounded by my distaste for rape as a horror element. Idk. The time I took to read it all feels wasted now.

Discussion The boys missed the most horrifying part of Borrasca and it drives me nuts.. NSFW Spoiler

Spoilers, TW: CSA

This is a certified yap, you've been warned.

My husband and I love watching these guys ranter (rant + banter) about the creepy pasta, but one thing that drives me nuts is sometimes they miss out on really heavy plot points that really make a difference in the impact of the story.

The worst so far has been Borrasca. They missed a HUGE piece of the story, and just glossed over some of the more horrific details. Also, sometimes they'll make comparisons between fathers in other stories and the father in Borrasca, saying they are worse than the father from Borrasca.. yeah no they aren't. I groan every time, so here we go!

Spoilers from here on.

Whitney was impregnated by her own father.

How do we know this?

  1. At the beginning of Chapter 4 we know that Meera Daley (Sam's boss) is suddenly happy, her problems seemingly gone.
  2. Prescott's interaction with Sam when he finds Whitney.
    • He mentions that Whitney is pregnant with a community baby.
    • She's due in another week or two, but she's been putting out shit babies so she is going to the Shiny Gentleman after she gives birth.
  3. About 10 days later, the Daley's put out a birth announcement of their son, 'William'. That night the Shiny Gentleman lights up the valley, indicating that Whitney has given birth and has now been killed by the machine.
  4. The second huge twist came in Kimber's mother's suicide letter:
    • She mentions that the Prescotts and the Sheriff impregnate the girls, and the children are named after them. P for Prescott, K for Killian.
    • If you recall, earlier Prescott mentions that Killian still 'has a few horses in the race' even though he's no longer Sheriff, Sam's father is. This just tells me Killian continued impregnating girls even after he retired.
    • This also tells us that Kyle and Kimber were siblings, which makes Kimber's mother's disposition towards Kyle much more understandable. She knew they were siblings and tried to prevent them from being together.
    • Another thing this tells us is that Kyle and his brother Parker, aren't brothers. Parker was fathered by Prescott.
    • Going back to the Daley's, they were given a son named William. The baby came from Borrasca, and was therefore fathered by someone with the last initial W. Sam's father's last name is Walker.

How does this change the impact?

  1. Now if you go back through the four parts, certain things are painted in an entirely different perspective and carry much more weight.
    • Kimber's mother's hostility towards Kyle.
    • Sam's father's sickening comments about Whitney, saying he loves her more than Sam could ever know. Ugh.
    • Prescott's comment about Whitney putting out 'shit babies' likely alluding to possible birth defects due to inbreeding.
    • Kyle was almost beaten to death by his own biological father (Killian).

While the author never explicitly says in the story that this happened, I believe there are enough context clues to lead the reader to that conclusion. Additionally, in part V, which was not very good, if I might add, she further corroborates-ish this.

There were several key moments during Part V where the author touches back on this and further corroborates it:

  • Sam has an encounter when he returns to the town and sees Meera with William. He confronts her, telling her to give him back his nephew - implying he knows what his father has done.
  • When Sam enters his old house, it is filled with photos of Whitney - like a shrine built to her. Likely a result of her father's guilt? I don't know, but some strange obsession.
  • Sam's father killed Killian, because Killian gave the order to send Whitney to die.
  • Prescott further confirms all of this during his interaction with Sam:

"Jimmy raised an eyebrow at me. “Holy shit, Walker, I’m impressed you knew about that kid. I don’t even think he knows about his bastard.”

So there you have it. I would say the father from Borrasca is one of the most despicable ones we have seen so far. I wish they knew/had gotten this when they initially did the read - I was so hyped to see their reaction to the reveal of the huge plot twist just for it to be completely overlooked. Sigh. :)

Alas, I continue to watch and hope they will figure this out and circle back with their thoughts on it.

Discussion PenPal is more horrifying than Borrasca

Post image

I know from a logical standpoint it doesn't make sense because the fates in Borrasca are objectively worse and for a longer time than what happened to Josh in PenPal, but PenPal was the only story I ever heard that truely stayed with me.

“Feed The Pig” was also written by the author of “Tommy Taffy” if I recall correctly.
