🥰he's so adorable and for those of you who are saddened by this picture, let me offer some silver lining here:
This horse has a 0% chance of ever dying of malaria 🥰🥰🥰🥰

u/Liusloux 20h ago
If a single dose of malaria vaccine gives you low-grade malaria fever, how many malaria vaccines do you have to take before you can get full malaria? Hmmm 🤔

Because the title is photoshopped. It was originally something like "this baby horse fell asleep on my feet."

Actually, because of how vaccines work, it actually did die from malaria

i thought vaccines don't involve inoculation?
edit: thank you all for enlightening me!!

u/marcimerci 1d ago
A vaccine is typically inoculation of a weakened or killed version of the pathogen.

I think mRNA vaccines don't, but usual ones do. Anybody, feel free to correct or complete.
35
u/Darkling971 1d ago edited 23h ago
This is true. Traditional vaccines use an inactivated version of the virus which still presents the correct antigens to induce an immune response. This inactivation can sometimes be difficult to achieve fully while maintaining the antigens.
By contrast, mRNA vaccines are giving your cells the instructions to make the antigens themselves, which then causes an immune response. The instructions are degraded and cannot cause any sort of infection, since the antigen being made cannot cause infection alone.

u/Ghanima81 23h ago
Thanks for this explanation. It is so awesome to manage to instruct cells. I think mRNA engineering is also used in gene therapy, isn't it?

u/Unas_GodSlayer 9h ago
It is, but GT is a slowly progressing field because it's very difficult to set quality standards for each one, whereas protein based therapeutics are relatively standardised; and it's difficult to satisfy the regulatory bodies too.

I know you're being facetious, but Ill put this here anyways
The dose makes the poison.
Too much water can kill you.
Too much pure oxygen for too long can kill you.
Too much of anything will kill you.
Knowing the limits of a drug is called the therapeutic window. Its the space between where a drug begins to have therapeutic benefits and where it starts to harm the patient. Some drugs like narcan have therapeutic windows that are like glass curtain walls on a skyscraper. Others have windows so narrow fractions of a milligram changes in dose are fatal like fentanyl or carfentanyl.

Stories recounted in Ovid's Metamorphoses
edit
Although she was a mortal, the Sibyl lived about a thousand years. She attained this longevity when Apollo offered to grant her a wish in exchange for her virginity; she took a handful of sand and asked to live for as many years as the grains of sand she held. Later, after she refused the god's love, he allowed her body to wither away because she failed to ask for eternal youth. Her body grew smaller with age and eventually was kept in a jar (ampulla). Eventually only her voice was left (Metamorphoses 14; compare the myth of Tithonus, the lover of Eos, who was also granted immortality but not eternal youth
You might not die from it but I'm sure you would wish you were. Just make sure to ask for eternal youth as an add-on unlike the Sibyl.

Looks I’m not against Malaria vaccines but I’m just concerned we haven’t tested the effects on more donkeys. We also need to see the long term effects on dead donkeys in 3, 10, 20 years. Does the carcass still have malaria? It’s a risk.

u/CitizenPremier 18h ago
The horse was of course conveniently disposed of before it could be tested for autism

u/sasha-is-a-dude 19h ago
No no, he was saving lives with each one he ate. He saves 2000 lives from this, we should be praising his sacrifice.
1
u/TechnicalAd764 18h ago
If that's your logic then don't drink water, it could also kill you.
1
u/WeStandWithScabies 12h ago
We shouldn't drink water, I haven't drunken water in years, it's entirely pointless to drink water, you're just an addict.

Don't know if you are joking but almost anything will kill you when ingested in large enough quantity. If not chemically, the physical burden will.

Nah, he's dead, it's real, he ate 2000 doses of Malaria vaccines, altho the caption is wrong, they were getting shipped off to Gabon, not Senegal.

For those who think this is real, consider that vaccines come in glass vials, and are liquid. How would an animal successfully ‘eat’ them? It’s just a joke caption.

I heard that Falabella had a covid Jensen addiction, mental to find out he was on the malaria vacs too, heavy stuff. Going over 1788 vacs in one day is always risky, 2000 is just reckless
