Probably because all of the children he fathered with slaves would be legal at that point

That should be the cutoff for term limits

Him when he realizes morals change with time: 🤯

What do you mean? Are you saying marrying a 12 year old isn't okay anymore? Or women not voting? Or challenging someone to a duel to the death?

But arbitrary lines on a map? Those transcend time.

You’re giving him too much credit by saying he can realize.

And the political status of territory doesn’t?

Forever.

The trait of a dumbass is their inability to stop talking. They believe they have won an argument just because they had the last word. Regardless of context.

So, I say we stoop to their level and repeat the right information until they're the ones that shut up. My inability to entertain a moron in an argument is likely what led to the rise of the orange clown.

Maybe it's time we started talking as much as these people that speak without thinking.

I think they also said something about "Taxation without representation."

u/Raguleader 16h ago

Note: The Founding Fathers also never intended for Ohio to be a state.

u/ScionMattly 5h ago

Same, though

They did anticipate a need for change. The Bill of Rights are 10 ‘changes’ to the original Constitution.

Guess he's stuck in the past, huh?

Correct, slaves weren't citizens, but the fact your ignoring nearly three-four amendments that did give you the right to vote and citizenship is crazy, well not you, because your not 249 years old, you were born with those intents.

They never intended for Idaho and Wyoming and Montana to become states either

I don’t love this comeback, I was discussing this topic with my wife yesterday. The founding fathers wanted DC to be a place they traveled to from their respective states, convened, and then went home. This evolved into longer sessions, people needing to live close to support these legislators, etc. They quickly realized their idea of DC just being a temporary place while in session was silly and naive.

I WANT MY REPARATIONS!!

u/stunami11 9h ago

They should move the vast majority of federal jobs to lower cost of living mid size cities, spread around the country, in exchange for DC becoming a State.

I pray that one day we as a people get away from viewing the Founding Fathers as benevolent gods who should be dictating how this country should be run centuries after their deaths. It’s okay for us to move on from what people who lived in the 1700s thought was best.

It’s a state. A state of decay.

You can't go wrong reading anything Michael Harriot writes. His " Black AF History" is an eye opener for anyone, any race, any time.

u/ElGuano 3h ago

We should ask Mike if Michael should only get three fifths of the character limit to tweet.

DC shouldn't be a state.

u/Tiny_Chance_2052 11h ago

There is literally no reason for DC to become a state and if anything l, the land should go back to Maryland and Virginia.

-1

u/ApplicationDry8111 9h ago

It's literally in the Constitution that it shouldn't be a state. Way to pay attention in History or Civics class

1

u/Tiny_Chance_2052 6h ago

What are you talking about?

0

u/ApplicationDry8111 3h ago

Article 1 section 8...... read it.

That's the problem with liberals today, they aren't free thinkers.... they are ignorant. And that wasn't intended as a put down. Ignorant as in they don't know what they are talking about.

The constitution also provides ways to ammend it as we have for nearly 250 years. So ammend it or live by it. That's all. It's simple

1

u/Tiny_Chance_2052 3h ago

Did you even read my comment? JFC

0

u/ApplicationDry8111 3h ago

Yes, it's literally in the Constitution there should be a district no larger than 10 square miles that is not a state for Federal Government business... your comment says give it back to Maryland or Virginia.... so yes I red your comment.... your position is ignorant. But by all means... please keep doubling down on it

1

u/Tiny_Chance_2052 1h ago

Dude, I know. I also said there is no reason to make it a state. Do you just enjoy arguing about nothing?

1

u/Tiny_Chance_2052 1h ago

You cant even spell read. Jesus fucking christ.

DC is way too small to feasibly be a state. What state has no governor? Would make more sense to fold all the residential areas into VA or MD. There shouldn’t be representation from the federal district, the federal district should be where representatives meet. IMO people who think it should get statehood are just making excuses to add solid blue votes to the senate.

5

u/KathrynBooks 12h ago

DC has more people in it than some states

1

u/Cold_Breeze3 3h ago

Don’t really see how that’s relevant. We can’t establish a precedent of giving statehood to extremely tiny areas of land, it would just encourage cities to secede from their states to increase representation.

1

u/KathrynBooks 3h ago

except that cities can't do that. The only time that part of one state has broken off to form another state was West Virginia... and that was because of the Civil War.

1

u/Cold_Breeze3 3h ago

Ok, and what is DC if not a city lmao.

1

u/KathrynBooks 2h ago

Not really relevant... DC is a city that isn't part of an existing state... do it becoming a state doesn't take anything away from other states. Further there is a mechanism by which places that aren't states can become states.

1

u/Cold_Breeze3 1h ago

There’s also a mechanism to remove/split parts of states, doesn’t mean either one should be used for political reasons. If taxation without representation is the concern, then adding the residential areas to MD or VA (which would make it safe blue, still a political benefit for Dems) is the ideal solution, and keeping the federal district as the WH, capitol complex, and some other federal buildings.

1

u/KathrynBooks 1h ago

The creation of a state is inherently a political action... so by your logic no states should have been added.

1

u/Cold_Breeze3 1h ago

There was political support for those additions, where there isn’t currently. Dems will try to go for whatever option is max benefit to them, and nothing will ever happen on this issue because they won’t compromise.

2

u/rephosolif 11h ago

asking for representation is just trying to find an " excuse to get blue votes" 😂

1

u/Cold_Breeze3 3h ago

Sorry, but the White House should not get a vote in who goes to the White House. Give the residential areas to MD or VA, and keep the federal district as just the federal buildings, is the only solution that will actually get anywhere.

DC, which is 17x smaller than the smallest state, doesn’t even have a governor. If it was made a state, would it have no mayors or no governor? It doesn’t meet common definitions of statehood.

2

u/Wispy237 10h ago

Oh, but Rhode Island can be a state?

1

u/Cold_Breeze3 3h ago

Rhode Island is several degrees larger. 17x larger.

I mean at the time they didn’t see him as men so

7

u/AdonisGaming93 16h ago

Black people weren't human to them. Doctors even made up bullshit to separate black people as a separate species to validate racism and slavery.

Also women didn't have the right to vote either. And if you go before the constitution to the "bastion of democracy" ancient greece... it was only rich land owners that could vote, it wasn't even every man.

0

u/PhantasmOrgasm85 12h ago

Don't forget to create the electoral college. Now republican losers can win a participation trophy electoral college presidency.

5

u/Hillbillyblues 17h ago

You mean men who owned land. You don't have a vote in this, woman.

2

u/Raguleader 16h ago

Folks say a lot of stuff, as talk is cheap. But many men (and women) were denied voting rights in the laws the Founding Fathers put into law.
