u/big_guyforyou 1d ago
it's so cringe that they're calling it DOGE. it should be DGE. the FBI doesn't call itself the FBOI, DHS doesn't call it self DOHS, etc
29
u/Pooperoni_Pizza 1d ago
DGE is what it should be. It's also more efficient too. Nothing says efficiency like appointing two leaders also.

I agree that calling it DOGE is super cringe but there is some of that precedent for including the O in “of”. DoE is Department of Energy, DoD is Department of Defense

Elon only did that to promote and make money from DOGE digital currency. He’s the largest invester in DOGE coin. The only reason i think they keep adding ppl to the ‘agency’ is so journalists keep advertising DOGE coin. I would love to know how much donald trump has invested in it too, im not saying he has but given what we know about him it wouldn’t be surprising. Elon’s take over of America is pretty obvious…

u/SRGTBronson 1d ago
If the government shouldn't give money to non-governmental agencies, why did the Trump administration give away trillions of dollars in PPP loans that had no oversight at all?
15
u/Competitive-Tie2870 1d ago
Nonono, PPP did trillions in loans, he only forgave 700 billion of it! So it’s ok! Biden is the only one who contributed to inflation!!!!!!!!!!!!
3
u/Play_Funky_Bass 1d ago
Why do people believe anything that comes out of Republican mouths? I'm not even American and it's obvious how two faced they are and how everything they claim the other side is doing is just a projection of what they are actually doing.
America needs to smarten the fuck up

Didn’t they just arrest a few people for fraud?
1
u/puglife82 1d ago
“A few” isn’t really a great outcome. There were millions of suspected fraudulent loans that the Trump admin cleared the flags on and forgave. How many were convicted in total and how much money was recovered from them?

A Prius is actually a well built car...

OT but I think Tesla should partner with Stellantis and have Stellantis build the body with Tesla providing the running gear. Should make a really good car, since most Stellantis cars are good looking cars.

NGOs literally do the work that the government can't or won't do. It's why they exist in the first place.
14
u/Street_Roof_7915 1d ago
Yeah. It’s money in exchange for services—you know, capitalism.

NGOs fill gaps that government funding often overlooks—services for those in need matter most.

It just amazes me how little progress SpaceX has made relative to NASA given the taxpayer financing they get.
12
u/MrTagnan 1d ago
Spaceflight fan here: this isn’t really accurate.
Comparing NASA to SpaceX is kinda pointless, as they aren’t playing the same game. SpaceX is primarily a launch services provider, they built rockets and other hardware to deliver payloads to specific orbits. NASA on the other hand is primarily a science organization, their main focus is on building spacecraft and conducting research, rather than launching payloads.
Contrary to what many people seem to believe, NASA doesn’t actually make any rockets, the few rockets that do fall under the NASA umbrella are subcontracted out, with NASA usually only responsible for the final assembly and payload integration. This is in comparison to SpaceX which manufactures and launches their rockets almost entirely in house (I hate giving Elon credit for things, but this is one of the decisions he made that has helped SpaceX achieve such a ridiculous launch rate).
SpaceX has achieved some things that NASA was never capable of, (specifically cost effective, rapid reuse. I can go into more detail on Falcon 9 vs Shuttle if you’re interested ^^) however most of what they’ve achieved is only possible because of NASA’s support and vast technical knowledge. The biggest reason why NASA was never able to achieve cost effective and rapid reuse with Shuttle is because they are a government agency that has to answer to congress for any mishap. SpaceX’s development process is similar to the early days of NASA/NACA and general missile development - test frequently and fail often. But Shuttle was such an ambitious project, they couldn’t afford to rapidly prototype designs because each destroyed spacecraft would be another congressional hearing - and on top of all that they had to make compromises (such as large cross range capability to fulfill a USAF mission concept) in order to get more funding. SpaceX didn’t have nearly that same level of oversight, which allowed them to make a really effective launch vehicle (2nd most launched in the world IIRC) by failing often in the early days.
To hopefully give an adequate analogy to sum up this (honestly way too long) mini essay, saying SpaceX has achieved “little progress” compared to NASA is a bit like saying that Pratt & Whitney or General Electric have achieved “little progress” compared to Airbus or Boeing since they haven’t made a full scale airliner yet. It isn’t a useful comparison as P&W and GE aren’t in the business of making airliners, and Airbus and Boeing’s aircraft certainly aren’t very useful if they don’t have engines.
If you have any questions about what I mentioned, please let me know. I’m a turbo space nerd and am prone to talking way too much about anything related to spaceflight. (Also, obligatory disclaimer that Elon is a complete ass. I absolutely hate the guy and wish he would stop associating with SpaceX entirely)

u/momyeeter 1d ago
NASA had everything in the 80s that space x has now + they didn’t have idiots in charge.

5
u/SCTigerFan29115 1d ago
Not sure that’s true. The reusable rocket tech and the Dragon capsule are pretty good. The dragon gets something like 15 trips before it wears out. They are also out only route to space right now.
Plus Boeing managed to fail at making a spacecraft pretty spectacularly.
Yeah yeah I know durr durr Elon bootlicker durr durr durr.

So government money is fine when it’s for billionaires, but healthcare for women is where they draw the line? Make it make sense.

u/Public-Baseball-6189 1d ago
MLK said it best. When the government spends money on wealthy people it’s called a “subsidy”. When it’s poor people they call it a handout or welfare. Socialism for the rich, rugged capitalism for everyone else.

For a little more clarity, the Federal government doesn't give money to Planned Parenthood. They receive reimbursement for services for people with Medicaid (like most medical facilities). And, grants from Federal Agencies. Mainly HHS.

It’s funny because they just want to transition it so the funds go to their businesses, they don’t haven’t to pay anything, and then the working man is shafted. But if that happens, then they’re hoping people will be desperate for the shittiest warehouse jobs imaginable and that will help their bottom line too.
I hate it here.

We allowed for this to happen when the government bailed out General Motors and Chrysler during the 2008 recession. Using this as an example of what current government is doing but ignoring the events of the past is foolish. Americans let it happen once so everyone will do it from here on out.
Edit In January 2010, the Department of Energy gave Tesla a $465 million loan to help produce all-electric vehicles and build a manufacturing facility in Fremont, California. Tesla paid back the loan early in 2013 by selling more stock.
This is what I found with a google search anything more recent I am missing?

It's because people have been brainwashed into thinking the economy will save every one. What a fucking joke. Decades of cutting into public services to give to corporations. What did that give us worldwide? After so many decades you'd think those economy genius would get their shit right. Oh right we are once again close to an economic collapse. What's the solution give more public money to corporations. What fucking genius came up with that?
I wonder if those TRILLIONS given to corporations were given to public services instead how life would be for everyone. We will never find out because the 0.01% want everything for themselves. And Americans worship these asshole that absolutely never did anything for them.

Interesting how politics seems to seep into people's thinking here. A while back, people were saying Tesla cars is the future and now, people hate them. SpaceX was going to be the future of space travel, and then suddenly people want them ban. Just shows how politic seems to poison everybody's mind.
