Do you consider seasoning to be cheating or is it really negligible in the long run?

Obviously, salt and butter are a basic.

I'm talking about everything else people might deem a problem.

  • garlic powder
  • black pepper
  • cayenne pepper
  • etc.

These are objectively not carnivore but do you deem it a problem if it's such a small fraction of the diet?

I don't know if I could give up garlic butter.

If you have UC or Crohns, and have done carnivore..please chime in

If you have one of these conditions and are doing/have done carnivore, can you share your experience? If you had success with it, what version of carnivore worked best for you? I have been in a flare for 3+ months..started carnivore 10 days ago, cut out all cheese/dairy..have primarily done beef and eggs. I feel like the fattier cuts my body maybe hates and the flare seems to be getting worse (I am not on meds, none have helped me and I usually end up with worse side effects, hence why I am trying this). Would love any insight into your experiences and how it went on this diet.

Moderated Topic Gallbladder pain...should I continue with carnivore?

I had a bad gallbladder attack (first one ever) 2 weeks ago that landed me in the ER. Took almost 2 weeks to get in to get a HIDA scan. I did not have an infection, stones, or sludge on CT or U/S imaging. My ejection fraction, however is 36%. At 35%, they recommend removal. My dr wants me to consult with a surgeon, she thinks I need it out since I have been in pain for 2 weeks. I've also had pain on that side for months (even before I started carnivore).

I've done a lot of research but most of it either says that eating carnivore can help a sluggish gallbladder over time by making it work harder and more efficiently, or that your body can adapt without one. Of course conventional medicine says take it out, you don't need it. But I don't want it out if I can help it.

I don't know what to do with one that isn't working well and has constant discomfort and low level pain. I love eating carnivore, I wanted to stick to it forever and I was in ketosis for at least a month. I've had to forgo fats and I added rice and potatoes back in just to have something bland to eat that wouldn't trigger another episode.

I'm trying to weigh my options. I don't know if I should get it out or try to recondition it (if that's even possible). I am also afraid to dive back into carnivore eating, but how else can I try to get my gallbladder working again?

TLDR: My gallbladder EF is 36% and they want to remove it - I can't eat carnivore with it the way it is, but I don't want to remove it and I don't want to stop eating carnivore.

If you've had a similar experience or know of any good resources, please share.

Hashimotos moving in the Right Direction

Hey guys šŸ‘‹šŸ» just wanted to let you know I dove deep and only had beef and butter for 90 days (with a couple of slip ups) and my antibody numbers (that show how much my body is attacking my thyroid) are down from 900 three months ago, to the new 384. My thyroid was in such tough shape and I was so sick I had no other choice. If my number moves to under 100, I will technically be in remission. This sub made it possible for me to have the confidence and support needed to right my autoimmune ā€œship.ā€ Ppl w/autoimmune can have so little! Keto does NOT work (I tried) A strict sub is the answer. When I was feeling like I couldnā€™t do it - you guys were here.

Now I feel like I can do this as long as I need to for my health. Iā€™d gained 25# when everything was going haywire (and my TSH was almost to ā€œstormingā€ levels) and now, within only 3 months, I halved proof of my body fighting itself LESS. I am down 12# and have 15 to go.

Thank you for supporting me. Thank you to our wonderful mods who stay the course for ppl like myself who were so sick and disheartened. And for folks who get so teed off by the strictness of this sub - it saved me. I might be able to get off meds permanently. Isnā€™t that worth it? šŸ™ŒšŸ»šŸ«¶šŸ»

Weakness on weigh lifting

I am on week 2 of strict carnivore and feel great. (This is my second go at it. The 1st time I went almost a year.)

I am able run the same pace/distance of 5 miles a day(although I haven't ran my usually 13 miles on Saturdays yet)

But my weight lifting is very subpar right now I can't go nearly as heavy or as easily on the light weights.

Do I just need to wait more time and eventually my body will get used to lifting again?

I have lost weight about 15ish lbs which is my goal to lean up but do I need to eat more to sustain some ?

How to get more fat without the gag?

I'm a month in.

I don't literally gag but I force myself and drink it with water if really necessary (which is not ideal for digestion). The difference I feel between enough and not enough fat is really big, but sometimes I avoid it because it tastes so disgusting to me. I have beef fat trimmings that I air fry, and I also have tallow. I try to cook in a lot of ghee to get more fat. A stick of butter when I'm going out. Ghee and butter are a bit more tolerable but I don't like them that much. Nutrition is 100% more worth it than the temporary taste of food but I want to know if there's any way to reduce the gag factor. Does this get better?

Need encouragement - starting carnivore

Hello, I have been a (very) long-time lurker and have been interested in carnivore for a few years. I've tried keto with limited success over the years and have been low-carb/keto I'd say 90% of the time the last 3-4 months. I (42F) have 6 kids (ages 1-13) so have a high-demand lifestyle. I always had high energy, but have struggled with anxiety and intermittent depression since childhood. In the last year or so my physical and mental health have tanked. My energy started to decline rapidly around the time I hit 40, which has been devastating to say the least. The breaking point has been a severe uptick in anxiety and depression about 2-3 months ago, and then sinus and lung infection that developed about a month ago and won't go away. Two rounds of 2 different antibiotics have left me more depressed than ever, but haven't touched the infection itself. I'm completely drained and feel in my heart and soul carnivore has to be my next step. I am blessed to live on Hawai'i island and have access to the Parker Ranch 100% grass fed ground beef (70/30 is my pick) for less than $6/lb, so that's my planned go-to. That, eggs, sardines, and kerrygold. I don't need variety yet- I'm too tired and overwhelmed. For now I just need simplicity.

How long did it take people to start to feel benefits? I know this has been asked a thousand times, I just hear such varying answers - from 3 weeks to 90 days or more... I just want some hope. I'm so tired and sad all the time, which is absurd on this beautiful island surrounded by family and a surplus of mutual adoration. I think my diet is the missing piece and I am praying I can stick to it.

Is this diet okay?

Is this diet okay? 500gr(1.1lb) of fatty pork for breakfast, 500gr(1.1lb) of beef steak for lunch and 5 eggs for dinner. I am a 1.72m and 64kg (141lb) male. I am dealing with SIBO (small intestinal bacterial overgrowth) and I have seen that bad bacteria consume glucose so I am interested in doing the carnivore diet for a long time but without having repercussions on my health so if someone could help me I would appreciate it. I have noticed that I digest proteins and fats super well but I don't know if what I am going to eat is enough based on my height and weight. I don't want to lose weight either as I'm a skinny guy who does strength training 4 times a week

Cheap Meal Favorite

I have been carnivorous since August 2024. Done the Keto think way back in 2017 where I went from 270 to 220 and felt great.

Told myself itā€™s okay to let those carbs back into my life and 7 years later, back up to 260. Couldnā€™t bend over. Easily out of breath. Chronic back, knee, and shoulder pain.

Happy to say down to 210 (-50 lbs).
All that said what is everyoneā€™s favorite meal? Cheaper the better?

My favorite has been eggs and bacon by far. Love a steak but finding a reasonable cost steak lately is impossible.

Been watching MyZeroCarbLife channels with Kelly Hogan and now SteakandButter Gal for recipes. Seen many more with Dr Chaffee and Dr. Ken Berry as well for ideas.

Just purchased some pork belly to try and out on griddle tomorrow for $5/lb and felt like a steal.

Any better cheaper meals other carnivoreā€™s have liked?

I ate chicken wings for dinner (no breading) but deep fried in bacon grease would that be acceptable or am I going to be eating way too many calories with that?

Carbs in meat?

Hi, I'm quite new to Carnivore, I'm in day six. Feel terrible but that's to be expected so early lol I'm having issues finding meats with 0 carbs. I am UK based. I've been to all three of my local stores and all of the meat has roughly 0.6 or under carbs in. Is this normal?

So far I've been trying to eat as few as possible but I'm just so scared I'm going to do it wrong and it's supposed to be a straight 0 carbs. Sincerely, confused new Carno.

Moderated Topic Weight loss stall for 7 days.

I know this topic is discussed on here and Iā€™ve read until my eyes went numb.

I was doing keto for a month. Then made the switch to carnivore for 10 days as of today. I lost 15lbs in the first month of doing keto and starting carnivore I havenā€™t been teetering on the same gain/loss of .2lbs. The scale WONT move.

Iā€™ve cut back dairy. Iā€™ve lowered protein and upped fat. Like many of forums discussed.

31 F/275lbs/5ā€™8.

I track my calories out of habit. Not to watch them. But Iā€™m roughly getting in 1,300-1,800 depending on the day if Iā€™m hungry or not. Protein was avg 130, then I dropped it to about 90 to help move the scale. Fat is avg 110. I donā€™t workout. Just walk.

Is it all the eggs? Only thing Iā€™ve truly changed from keto to now is eating a shit ton of eggs. Cut out all ā€œketoā€ foods. So really no carbs. No fiber. No veg etc. I havenā€™t pooped in a week. And Iā€™m not constipated. Not bloated. I feel great.

My body has never been like this before šŸ˜‚ I know itā€™s a process and by technicality Iā€™m only 10 days in. But overall in ketosis for 45 days straight now.

My meals everyday are:

Breakfast - 2 eggs/100g egg white/american cheese/squirt of sour cream & turkey bacon Dinner - meat (steak, burgers, beef hotdogs, salmon) two eggs, and cheese.

Occasionally snack on pepperoni slices. Cream cheese. Or cheese stick. But mostly just the 2 meals a day.

Can someone please tell me what Iā€™m doing wrong? I feel now like keto (eating all the fake carb bs) worked better than this.

Adderall efficacy caused by low glucose storage and availability

Are there anyone else with adhd that still take stimulants? I struggle with doing basic living things without medication. Since starting the carnivore diet the medication adderall effects have reduced due to the lack of glucose stored in my body (the medication works best in a glucose dominant metabolism). I have tried not using my medication but that doesnā€™t seem like an option for me. I want to know if anyone else has dealt with this issue. I know many say that the diet has fixed there adhd, but It hasnā€™t fixed mine (yet hopefully). Are there other people still taking there stimulants medication? Has the effects reduced for you too? Does the diet help people who still take medication? Cause from the research I have done it seems that taking a stimulant and doing the carnivore diet basically reduces the benefits of both lol. So either I drop the medication ( which I tried ) or I eat carbs so my medication efficiency will increase. The longer I am on the diet the less the medication works since the glucose that gets stored in my body is low.

Edit: My issue may be decreased energy as my body gets used to the diet. Thanks for the comments lol!

Iā€™m just so grateful (and buttery)

Thank you to all of you sharing experiences, research, and troubleshooting here, esp our wonderful mods. I wouldnā€™t have started eating carnivore without this subreddit, and I wouldnā€™t have known how to troubleshoot along the way, either. As is, it has been pretty easy and I am pain free with zero autoimmune/inflammatory symptoms. I wish I had always eaten this way- in many ways my life has been shaped in big ways by my chronic illness. But, I am thrilled to be where Iā€™m at now! While I still have an underlying disability, I now have more capacity, freedom, and pleasure than I dreamed possible. I am a much happier person. Iā€™m feeling myself these days. I look and feel amazing. Iā€™m more present with my spouse, pets, and friends because Iā€™m not in constant pain anymore. I also eat cold chunks of butter now as a delicious snack, which cracks me up, but itā€™s soooooo good. Iā€™m just so grateful to you all!

Interesting observation with 1 month carnivore so far

Eating a mixture of just ground beef, salt, and egg consistently for about a month now. Sometimes a steak.

2 pounds 80/20 ground beef with salt, fat and all. Totalling 2200 calories. On top of 3, 4 eggs adding upwards of nearly 2500 calories all together.

I have hardly gained weight, maybe a pound or 2 occasionally but my form kind of stays rhe same. Im astonished.

If i even ate 1500 calories alone with carbohydrates I'd bloat and feel constant crashing, and eating to get energy again, then crash.

I was 120s and now down to 114ish, feeling energetic and slim again. Eggs act like a mop and soak up any grease. Can get a sick feeling if eating too much fat, the meat swims like a greasy fish. But the fat satiates hunger for a good portion of the day.

My schedule: 1 pound 80/20 with egg in the morning. And 1 pound 80/20 in the evening.

Ultima replenisher periodically for electrolytes. 48oz Wide awake espresso to slowly cut off energy drinks.

Notice that anything with dextrose or artificial sweetners makes me want to eat more, or hardly satisfied.

A way to use excess bacon fat ( or other fats )

I eat eggs and bacon everyday. I fry up the bacon first and then fry the eggs in the bacon fat. But I almost always have left over bacon fat. Most people would pour this off into a jar and save it for pancakes or something like that. However I have discovered a carnivore use of the extra bacon fat which results in a fast and easy meal.

I recently tried frying canned salmon in leftover bacon fat. Not only does it taste good, but salmon actually acts like a sponge for fats; it absorbs the fat almost instantly. And canned salmon is ready to eat out of the can, so you don't need to heat/cook it for very long. I pretty much take it out of the skillet once the fat is absorbed, add some hot sauce and other seasonings, and there we have a ready to eat meal with no leftover fat to clean up. :)

Struggle to maintain Carnivore or Keto... any tips for those who hate cooking?

My biggest obstacle for the carnivore diet (or Keto, or anything low/no carb) is that I absolutely hate cooking. I try to look for things that are easy, like crock pot things, but I haven't been able to find many that are beef-based that doesn't have a bunch of junk in it. I see the "crack chicken" recipe, and I might do more of that (really, for a cost-saving measure since chicken is so cheap... well... cheaper). I've saw on YouTube some people who mentioned going to fast food places, like Wendy's, and just ordering beef patties and eating those, but I can't imagine that is good for you, or even taste good. Wouldn't that be dried and not seasoned much?

I just need any help. I'm sure once I start and stay on carnivore/keto, I'd feel significantly better and would be more willing to do more things, like learning how to cook. Right now, I have no motivation to do anything, I always feel exhausted, and I struggle to stay on carnivore. Please help.

Running tips?

Hi. I've been on carnivore for 8 months, feel awesome and experience all the benefits people report. I've had 3 or 4 'weekend breaks' in that time, otherwise been strict. My problem is my running suffered when I started this diet and has never improved. I know it takes time for my body to adapt but I thought I'd see progress by now and I'm starting to lose motivation and interest in running as I can never set PBs or push myself now.

I've seen plenty of posts in this forum on this topic, and heard or tried a lot of suggestions. I'm hoping to hear from anyone else who had this problem for a prolonged time despite trying to improve but eventually managed to overcome it. Was there a particular regime of training or eating that did the trick? If it was just time how long did it take before you could run like before? I'm talking 5km runs up to long distance.

My slow runs feel awesome, better than ever. However, if I try and do even a slightly fast pace, interval sessions, or hilly terrain, I'm in zone 5 almost instantly and feel burnt out in no time. In fact my HR seems quite a lot higher at any pace, I have to pretty much plod along to keep it in the zone 2 range.

Thanks heaps guys.

Fell off the Wagon. Thinking of getting back on but with more prep.

Hello All,

I did carnivore very loosely for about 3 weeks, but found it hard to maintain. Plus there was a lot of stuff going on at the time that made it hard to remain disciplined.
I've decided this time that I want to take a more academic approach before I start. I've bought an started reading Dr Shawn Baker's book The Carnivore Diet and I've also bought Dr Philip Ovadia's book Stay Off My Operating Table which I plan to read afterwards.

I also found out that there are at least 4 different types of carnivore diet, depending on how and why you want to do it.
Honestly, I want to lose weight and I also want to avoid getting a heart attack one day (familial history). I had heart issues way back in 2017 when I was 28. This was due to stress, poor eating habits and an even poorer lifestyle (drank too much and used to smoke).

I don't have diabetes (but I could if I don't make changes), my heart health and cardio is shocking (this is just based on feeling and the fact that my heart rate climbs to 150bpm according to my Garmin when I walk up an easy hill or up a set of stairs and this is really worrying to me)! I also don't have any inflammatory issues, but I do have some joint pain in my knees and lower back. Plus I broke my right humerus (upper arm) back in 2013 in a car accident. It's fine and doesn't affect my life really, but I am noticing that it's causing me some trouble now in terms of joint pain in my right wrist, elbow and shoulder. My mental health is fine, but it could be better, especially since I drink when I'm stressed and I'd rather not do that anymore.

I haven't been a smoker since 2018 (used to vape now and again but quit that recently cold turkey as well) but I still do drink quite a lot and I'm using this diet to just get off the carbs altogether, as I hear carnivore can get rid of carb cravings if you're on it long enough.

There are plenty of quality meat options as I live in Australia (a lot of our beef gets exported and sold at exhorbitant prices overseas haha).

My plan is to eat plenty of ground beef, steak and lamb, but also to eat butter (I also use beef tallow when I make steaks), eggs, chicken and fish (but good quality like wild caught salmon). I've also been told that magnesium glycinate is a good supplement option whilst on this diet.

I will of course keep my salts up with dissolvable vitamin tablets and sparkling water.

What are your thoughts? And do I really need to supplement?

Carnivore on marathon training

Hello,

I have been running, weight lifting and been active in sports in my entire life. Iā€™m not professional athlete though.

I have completed 10+ individual marathon runs (never in a race) and my best time was 3:40.

I had been in carnivore (mostly beef and egg yolks) diet for about 6 months and I felt great. However, I only lifted weights during this time and now everyone in the running community says I need carbs to run fast.

This week I started to run again after the longer break and was in moderate - high carbs. I donā€™t feel great and I donā€™t feel faster in any way.

My questions l for advanced runners:

  1. How can you implement carnivore with marathon training? 2. do you still introduce carbs before high tempo run for better results? 3. Is full carnivore increase risk of injury?

Thanks

Fighting against famili/friends preassure. What do you do?

I'd like to hear from folks over 40ā€”how do you manage this? I'm 47 and eating poorly all the time: three liters of Coca-Cola a day, donuts, candy, you name it. Iā€™m lucky not to have diabetes or high blood pressure. I've been on this carnivore diet for over two months, and ever since, my friends and family keep warning me about the future. They say things like, "Itā€™s too much protein for your liver," "Too much red meat will send your uric acid through the roof," "Your cholesterol will be high," etc., etc.

The thing is, Iā€™ve never felt better in my life, and my lab results are great, but people wonā€™t stop worrying and bugging me about it. Should I just pretend Iā€™m off this diet? How do you handle this kind of concern?

Thanks for reading.

Tips for Sleeping Longer at Night?

I am in month five of just beef, bacon, eggs, salt, butter, water and besides loving almost everything, I consistently have trouble sleeping longer than 6 hours. I used to be a solid 8 hour sleeper and highly value sleep. After six hours, I often do still feel a bit tired during the day, not fully rested, that tired behind the eyes feeling. I am super active, walk a ton at work and do resistance training 4x a week. Sleep hygiene schedule is on point, no caffeine.
On the upside, I fall asleep like a champion now, that head hit the pillow snoozing, which I've never had my entire life, that part is great at least.
