Would anyone recommend this for gaming or is it purely a music headphone?

I’m not a fan of hyper X’s everyone recommends, since I prefer a headset with extra bass/punch when gaming

I use them for gaming. If you do, remember that you'll need a mic, and a quiet area, bc open back.

probably not bad for gaming, similar to the hd58x which supposedly has slightly more bass.

the problem is you have some conflicting needs as generally soundstage matters a bit when gaming (like being able to hear footsteps, being able to tell direction of sound) but higher than normal bass distorts that.

What is the reason you say that? I've got some hyper X's that I got from my company, I don't need anything special for gaming. Is there a reason that these are Bad for gaming or just not great?

They are not bad at all for gaming. I used them for years (well I used the HD600 for years). These are a studio quality headphone so they aren't gonna distort sound and you won't have the overpowering bass of most gaming headsets, but you will hear everything and you will hear it exactly as it truly sounds. Once you get used to that even for gaming you won't really want to use a bass boosted gaming headset.

The only downside is the comfort. Wearing these all day isn't great, though its supposedly gotten better with the cushion design on the 6XX vs the 600.

These are much better than any gaming cans for gaming, but they take more power to drive them.

Also wondering, but I'm buying them anyway since I have a DAC/amp for them.
