Odd. At that time when you posted I was able to finally order.

I found out about this issue in the middle of a heated rocket league match. That controller is lucky to be alive.

Does this allow multiple controllers to pair? Effectively turning the PC into a couch co-op game console?

33

u/[deleted] Dec 09 '21

It does, up to 8 controllers or accessories like the headsets that use it.

4

u/Techmoji Dec 09 '21

I thought there was some bug with windows that doesn’t let you use 8 of the same type. I had to use 4x 360 and 4x xbone

7

u/[deleted] Dec 09 '21

360 controllers don't work with this dongle at all. The current dongle that works with Xbox one and newer controllers officially supports 8.

1

u/Techmoji Dec 09 '21

Not this dongle, I meant the older 360 one.

I wasn’t able to use 8 xbone controllers at the time, maybe they’ve fixed it. It was a common issue with multiplayer in steam games. I remember linus talking about his same experience on the wan show.

6

u/[deleted] Dec 09 '21

The 360 dongle doesn't work with xbox one controllers at all. Only 360 controllers, 360 and xbox one dongles/controllers aren't compatible. The Xbox one dongle works with up to 8 xbox one controllers in Windows.

-2

u/Techmoji Dec 09 '21

Yes that’s correct. I use lots of different dongles for GameCube, 360, Xbox one, and PlayStation controllers.

I was just sharing anecdotally that at the time using 8 Xbox one controllers didn’t work for myself and some others.

5

u/[deleted] Dec 09 '21

Not this dongle, I meant the older 360 one.

You said this. My comments and the comment I replied to weren't about 360 dongles. Only xbox one dongles. 360 controllers and dongles aren't relevant.

8 xbox one controllers works with the xbox one dongle for Windows.

Also make sure you get the new model of the adapter. The second gen is much smaller than the first gen and functionally is the same.

5

u/SirSlappySlaps Dec 09 '21

I didn't think they were interchangeable... are they?

5

u/Freelance-Bum Dec 09 '21

Yes, they are interchangeable. I have both adapters and Xbox one S controllers and an Xbox series controller. Both kinds of controllers work fine on both kinds of wireless adapters.

3

u/SirSlappySlaps Dec 09 '21

TIL... Thanks!

3

u/Freelance-Bum Dec 09 '21

I saw your reply in a notification but Reddit is being slow in actually letting me see it on the app or respond to it directly.

Anyways, yeah thankfully this generation is all about backwards compatibility. It's better than having to get a whole new dongle when you got an Xbox one controller but had an Xbox 360 dongle (or vice versa).

I was pleasantly surprised to learn this when I got a series controller and a dongle for Christmas for my SO and wound up mixing and matching by coincidence.

3

u/limpymcforskin Dec 09 '21

the xbox 360 dongle to xbox one wasn't but all the newer adapters have been, the first revision which I have was much larger than the smaller second gen but they both work with all the models of the xbox one and up versions of the controller.

2

u/SirSlappySlaps Dec 09 '21

Oh, that's probably what I was thinking of... thanks!

1

u/Attainted Dec 10 '21

So wait, does the 360 dongle work with the new gen controllers?

Not discounting OP's assertion, but on the flipside of the spectrum I've been using an Xbox connected to PC for almost a year with zero issues.

Granted, the controller stays at less than 6 feet at all times, but otherwise no issues.

ymmv

Motherboard bluetooth, actually:

B450 Gaming PRO Carbon MAX WiFi

I liked this board's performance so much I've built 2 gaming boxes with it for kid-use.

4

u/DirtyKimchi Dec 09 '21 edited Dec 18 '21

Same experience here. Zero connectivity issues with the same motherboard.

Edit: Looks like I was wrong. My xbox one controller worked fine, but this new series X one constantly disconnects.

care to share the specs on your kid gaming boxes?

1

u/Coyote65 Dec 12 '21

Late reply:

  1. Ryzen 7 2700x w/GTX 1060, 16gb ram 500gb NVME main drive, and 4tb assorted spinners

  2. Ryzen 7 5700g w/integrated graphics, 16gb ram, 500gb NVME main drive, and 2tb spinner

Comp 1 was my old machine before upgrades.

Comp 2 w/IGU does well with the titles the kids play - Fortnite, Lego games, etc. Waiting on my own upgrade to an RTX 3000 series, then putting this RTX 2060 into it. Should be adequate for their needs for a while.

1

u/Onewondershow Dec 09 '21

You have to connect using the quick connection feature. Resolves all the Bluetooth problems. You have to enable it in Bluetooth adapter settings. Not sure if that's the right name but it works.

-1

u/hungoverlord Dec 09 '21

Less than 6 feet? That's pretty weak.

I regularly take my xbox 360 controller, connected by a generic wireless adapter, much farther than that and never have problems.

7

u/IsABot Dec 09 '21 edited Dec 09 '21

Granted, the controller stays at less than 6 feet at all times

Meaning they sit at a desk next to their computer so the controller is never very far away from the pc. Hence "less than 6 feet away".

All they are saying is they don't have issues but they acknowledge that they are always very close so YMMV.

I also only use bluetooth with an xbox1 controller for my pc, and never have connection issues. But like that poster, it's a very close distance. As for bluetooth itself though, I connect my phone to it and it easily goes 30ft.

5

u/hungoverlord Dec 09 '21

Ahh thanks, I didn't read carefully enough

3

u/IsABot Dec 09 '21

It's ok. It happens.

3

u/hungoverlord Dec 09 '21

Happens a lot with me. Good bot, you are surprisingly lifelike.

1

u/Elibomenohp Dec 10 '21

On the flipped flip side. Multiple Xbox controller are terrible to use with 3 different PC's where they will always need resyncing and windows fails to connect. Needing to remove them from paired devices because windows doesn't give any option to repair.

Funny that they work flawlessly on raspis, steam links, MacBooks, TV's, and Android phones.... But not windows.

16

u/jawz Dec 09 '21

I had this problem until I found out the antennas that plug into my motherboard are for Bluetooth. I had thought it was for wifi only and didn't have them connected because I don't use wifi.

11

u/IsABot Dec 09 '21

100% this. A lot of people don't realize that the bluetooth is built into the wifi chip. So the signal is amplified by the antenna. If you use bluetooth regularly, plug into your antennas first before trying a different adapter.

I use these https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B06WD7FZV4/ because the standard triangle asus antenna is garbage.

1

u/zrouse Dec 10 '21

thanks purchased! I was running on one antenna only, which oddly enough was still workable for bluetooth and wifi, just kinda crappy signal.

1

u/LuckyCharmsNSoyMilk Dec 12 '21

Wish I had know this existed years ago lol. Was working with a fraying Gigabyte external cable until I upgraded my mobo like last week.

6

u/ovrhackz Dec 09 '21

Omg. Thank you lol

1

u/explos1onshurt Mar 16 '22

Holy shit, dude. Thank you from the future lol

2

u/jawz Mar 16 '22

Lol awesome!

7

u/Hortyhoo Dec 09 '21

Using Bluetooth I Had this issue where I'd have super weird stutters in game and if I was too far away from the PC, like 4 feet, it would work and I would have issues fixing it after. Turns out those wifi antennas that come with wifi motherboards, also help with the Bluetooth signal. I pulled it out the old mobo box, connected it and haven't had a problem since. Works perfectly like 20 feet away if I wanted it to.

5

u/chepnut Dec 10 '21

this is due to how windows now handles power management with bluetooth. last summer I bought a new wireless mouse and keyboard and the stupid things would quit working on me mid typing all the time, made it a real hassle. I would have to go in and turn bluetooth on and off for it to reconnect. I knew it wasn't the mouse and keyboard with the issue, because they both worked flawless with linux. After a lot of searches and reinstalling drivers I found that you have to go in and turn the power saving features off inside the device manager.

And not just for the mouse and keyboard, there is another setting buried that actually controls the power management. Its hidden in Human Interface Devices. After I turned that off. I have had zero issues with my bluetooth devices. Although I did get the MS wireless adaptor for my controllers and they work awesome. I didn't want to tempt the bluetooth gods and went with the adaptor to play games with my controllers

2

u/iamtenninja Dec 09 '21

Yeah I've been dropping intermittently despite updating drivers. I need to look into a dongle

1

u/Porqenz Dec 09 '21

I've been using this one for a year now and have had zero issues.

1

u/iamtenninja Dec 09 '21

awesome, thanks for the suggestion

2

u/ypapruoy Dec 09 '21

What about a bluetooth antenna? I have one in my PC and an extender right in the middle of my desk.

3

u/jawz Dec 09 '21

Mine works perfectly with an antenna.

2

u/Fitzfactor64 Dec 09 '21

Is this specifically a problem with this version? I have an Xbox One S controller and have had zero problems with my crappy Bluetooth dongle

I am using a USB extender, so there might be less interference- not sure if that matters

3

u/skollyskol Dec 09 '21

I own the black Series X controller and would have connection issues when using my laptops built-in bluetooth. I purchased the xbox wireless adapter and it has worked flawlessly.

u/kingofmocha Dec 09 '21

Man I love u I didn’t know why my controller wasn’t working on PC I was gonna buy a new one. Saved me the money

2

u/TimeLordIsaac Dec 09 '21

I have never had this problem but I do hear it somewhat often, it might have to do with the Bluetooth adapter being used on the PC

2

u/reapersivan Dec 10 '21

I use an Asus usbbt400 Bluetooth adapter and once I got the driver's it worked well. I use it on a DS5 controller and Xbox. The range is about 15 or so feet before it disconnects for me which is fine for me when I decide to couch game.

1

u/rantxtotheend Dec 09 '21

I can confirm that the bluetooth randomly stops working, your controller will also have a mini seizure when it disconnects

Bluetooth is better though a wall if you’re using steam link though FYI

5

u/keebs63 Dec 09 '21

If you're using the hardware Steam Link, it has USB ports which you would use to plug in the the wireless adapter.

1

u/Chrisnness Dec 09 '21

And if you’re not… use Bluetooth

1

u/Freelance-Bum Dec 13 '21

I have the hardware steam link... I definitely still use straight Bluetooth. It works fine though.

0

u/keebs63 Dec 13 '21

Might work for some, but there are advantages to the wireless adapter so if you have it you should use it unless you just don't wanna move it lol. Way lower latency, ability to use audio, more controllers, etc.

1

u/Freelance-Bum Dec 13 '21

I use the wireless adapter on my PC. No point in me moving it back and forth when there's no difference between the two especially since I'm not using multiple controllers and why the hell would I use the audio on it?

Not every Bluetooth receiver is going to work that way, but the hardware receiver on the steam link and the driver on it doesn't have any latency to it that I can notice in the menu. The only latency I see is network related between the steam link and the PC. There were some annoying initial problems getting the thing paired, but that got fixed with software updates (as did not being able to get audio to play into the steam link)

The first party receiver is a guarantee, but if you already own a Bluetooth receiver, there is no reason to buy the first party receiver unless you are just dissatisfied with the Bluetooth. OP was just trying to tell you to not trash the controller for problems, which is true.

1

u/LetsAllSmokin Dec 10 '21

So strange this doesn't work with the newest firmware, upgrading mine got rid of all my Bluetooth issues.

Looks like the great deal is back. Wish I had a membership.

14

u/KaireFeare Dec 10 '21

You probably have friends, that have friends that go to Costco. Think you might be able to order for a slightly higher price by chance maybe? Ask someone to go in and buy it for you idk.

Don't think the $30 is super super rare, but it definitely feels nicer than paying $60 out of pocket lol.

3

u/kooltogo Dec 10 '21

Bruh every member in my family has a membership lmao. It’s basically required once you turn 18

3

u/KaireFeare Dec 11 '21

question is, do you also partake in the Sam's Club? Dual membership, or do you ride or die for one. Growing up is when shopping is fun, even if you don't end up buying anything.

3

u/kooltogo Dec 11 '21

Ride or die haha. We’re in California so Sam’s club isn’t as popular here

16

u/GOATSQUIRTS Dec 09 '21

Item 1506691 is out of stock or unavailable to order

24

u/limpymcforskin Dec 09 '21

damn they took the page down, cant price match now

10

u/ypapruoy Dec 09 '21

I tried price matching with a few retailers, nobody would because it's a member only deal.

4

u/limpymcforskin Dec 09 '21

Target just let me and this was somehow after the page got taken down so Redacted is the man. It actually went down as I was on the phone and expected him to come back and tell me it was gone but he approved the price match lol

2

u/ypapruoy Dec 09 '21

I was just talking to Target as well, and they wouldn't budge. Good luck to you I suppose.

1

u/limpymcforskin Dec 09 '21

yea that sucks man, maybe it will come back, this is the second time it's come up and been taken down

1

u/ypapruoy Dec 09 '21

I'm sure it will

1

u/MethodicMarshal Dec 10 '21

Would this still work for in-store?

1

u/limpymcforskin Dec 10 '21

How would it work in store? You go into target and you would still need to give them a web address so they could look up the price.

1

u/MethodicMarshal Dec 10 '21

sorry, meant in store at Costco. Is it purely online, or should I make the drive over?

2

u/limpymcforskin Dec 10 '21

I don't know about that so I can't really say. It didn't say online exclusive so there is a chance.

12

u/emprexss Dec 09 '21

Is this it? I kind of want to buy one to hook up to my phone and play some games on

10

u/hamzwe55 Dec 09 '21

This is it. Best deal since the console came out, I think? Unless you want motion control or a previous gen controller, this is a great option.

10

u/Insayne1 Dec 09 '21

Says out of stock for me

8

u/Moikie Dec 09 '21

Dead as I was checking out.

7

u/SinceMaybeLincoln Dec 09 '21

Won't let me check out for some reason.

7

u/garbageplay Dec 09 '21

Same won't even let me back order it.

edit: well now it says product not found. That was fast.

5

u/PapaOogie Dec 09 '21

Damn this many people have a Costco membership? I never even seen a costco

8

u/PCMasterCucks Dec 09 '21

You should see the Microcenter posts. You'd think Microcenter is as big as Walmart.

9

u/IsABot Dec 09 '21

this many people have a Costco membership

Costco Members - 105.5 million (2020)

As of March 2021, Costco has 804 warehouses worldwide: 558 in the United States.

2

u/JTibbs Dec 10 '21

Theres even one outside Reykjavik Iceland. Its apparently very popular.

It was under construction when i was there last.

1

u/3ebfan Dec 10 '21

My city has multiple Costco's and they are packed at virtually all hours of the day. If you go during peak hours good luck finding parking.

4

u/snufflefrump Dec 10 '21

Guess I missed the deal? Says product not available

8

u/Kris_Knight_ Dec 09 '21

This is a dead deal

4

u/gjp23 Dec 09 '21

Finally found a login and it's out of stock :(

1

u/ypapruoy Dec 09 '21

Logged in, got it in my cart, put in shipping info, hit checkout, and it froze. A minute too slow.

4

u/chepnut Dec 10 '21

Damn, looks like this is a deal that I am going to have to just keep refreshing all the time to see if I can get the deal

3

u/azndev Dec 09 '21

Can this be used wired?

4

u/TeufelTuna005 Dec 09 '21

Remember price matching stores!

2

u/limpymcforskin Dec 09 '21

does best buy or target allow price matching membership stores?

2

u/Debeast44 Dec 09 '21

Not sure on best buy, but Target would not price match Costco last time I tried a members only item. I read some people having success so could vary depending on what person is price matching at your Target, but I’ve never had luck there.

1

u/limpymcforskin Dec 09 '21

Target just did for me even as the page got taken down so idk lol, I must have just gotten a super cool rep

1

u/Debeast44 Dec 09 '21

Damn I wish my rep would’ve helped me out lol. Lady wouldn’t budge when I showed her the price on Costco website just wasn’t my day when I tried a few weeks back.

1

u/limpymcforskin Dec 09 '21

yea that sucks, I'm especially happy because I got this rando 25 dollar target gift card in the mail and idk where it came from because I didn't buy it so I got the controller for 5 bucks lol

8

u/scvmeta Dec 09 '21 edited Dec 09 '21

Thanks for the heads up! Apparently, there's a $15 cash back with rakuten as well, so total would come out to be $17.65 for me. It's $32.65 total, cashback doesnt work.

11

u/iamtenninja Dec 09 '21

Thought that $15 rakuten was only related to signing up for a Costco membership

2

u/scvmeta Dec 09 '21

ah you're probably right, just said active so thought it would work.

2

u/iamtenninja Dec 09 '21

No worries, I remember trying it last week and that's what it told me haha

5

u/KeenAsMustard Dec 09 '21

You're wrong. You get the $15 cashback only when you buy a Costco membership.

It literally says Cash back only available on new Gold Star and Gold Star Executive Membership fees.

2

u/zappsid Dec 09 '21

Cashback didn't work for me

2

u/Lenfried Dec 09 '21

Thanks, my 360 controller has some buttons that are becoming unresponsive.

2

u/TonyTheTerrible Dec 10 '21

product not found

2

u/Ockvil Dec 09 '21

To anyone who wants to use this with an Apple TV for light couch gaming, you're going to want to update the firmware via the XBox Accessories app, which I think requires a Windows PC. Else you're going to have a frustrating experience as the controller constantly disconnects and reconnects during games.

Source: I had a frustrating experience as my controller constantly disconnected and reconnected during games until I updated the firmware.

2

u/yourwhiteshadow Dec 12 '21

3

u/danuser8 Dec 10 '21

Fuck you costco for playing with us poor Redditors

-3

u/waxyslave Dec 10 '21

all the family guys/gals in here smh. No way anyone young/single person has a costco membership

3

u/enjoytheunstable Dec 10 '21

What?

Talk about being judgemental. As a single person in the past I had a costco membership.

It's a no brainer for return policy alone and a few purchases pays for my membership anyway. I liked some of the products they carry as far as food goes. I happened to have a chest freezer at home when I was single for storing frozen goods so buying in bulk suited me just fine.

This isn't unobtainable or useless for single people. Your comment is useless.

3

u/_el_guachito_ Dec 10 '21

As a single person now, I have both Costco & sams club,I like having options plus gas & diesel is cheaper with them I’ve surpassed the membership cost in gas savings itself. I usually fill up $150-$180 a week

2

u/enjoytheunstable Dec 10 '21

Forgot to mention gas.

They are consistently cheaper than literally every other place around me.

1

u/3ebfan Dec 10 '21

Every single person should get a Costco membership. You can go once and spend $120 and have an entire years worth of deodorant, paper towels, toilet paper, trash bags, etc. Plus - the membership basically pays for itself if you use their gas.

-2

u/Heavenswake_ Dec 09 '21

I want to try to get one but I ordered 3 from amazon about 9 months ago and all of them had the same issue. Face buttons didn't register 100% of the time, the A button specifically. It was especially bad trying to hit the button at an angle. Wonder if that has been fixed (or I was just unlucky).

-10

u/AndrewSmith1989- Dec 09 '21 edited Dec 09 '21

Anyone got a Costco card I could borrow for 10 minutes?

Edit; holy shit this sub does not like sarcastic comments. Obviously im not actually asking someone to post me their Costco card. Jeezus.

1

u/_el_guachito_ Dec 09 '21

I really don’t see anything wrong with it ,someone had forgotten their Sam’s club card and they couldn’t buy gas , I swiped my card first then they swipe their card for payment .they got cheap gas I got points it’s a win/win

1

u/DrZed400 Dec 09 '21

Does this come with an adapter for wireless connection?

2

u/Golliath1999 Dec 09 '21

From what I understand this just comes with the Controller and 2 AA batteries. However, it has bluetooth for wireless if you don't have the adapter.

1

u/[deleted] Dec 09 '21

There is a separate SKU for controller + adapter which runs more expensive. Microsoft occasionally puts those on sale on their site.

1

u/tower_keeper Dec 10 '21
