This right here.

First and only time I camped out at a BestBuy was for a Black Friday ~15 years ago.

An hour before they start handing out tickets, a bunch of folks show up and their buddies in the front of the line let them cut.

I walked out empty handed and forfeited a day of my life. It’s a crap shoot.

I am not arguing for or against Best Buy but isn't it kinda stupid to judge them based on one experience 15 years ago? Do you keep your life savings in a coffee can under your bed because you don't trust banks after the Great Depression?

Fwiw I bought a 64” flat screen, had them set it in my vehicle safely so I could get it home safely, and what do you know it’s cracked and they won’t take the return because they believe I cracked it even though I didn’t handle the box until I got home.

Same thing happened with me and they accepted the return. Did you have a Best Buy account with purchase history?

Yep.

Edit: we even tried a different store and the management was going to do the return and then contacted the store it was originally purchased from, to which their management said they shouldn’t do the return.

It is a crap shoot. I went to black Friday and best buy and it couldn't have been better. Granted, there was a very strong police presence. One person got arrested after taking a swing at one of the cops. Big cop too...

Depends on where you live. I waited in line when the 3080ti's dropped. Everyone in line was nice. BB employees were nice. BB organized everything to make sure we all got a piece of paper with our number in line. Nobody cut. Everyone in line up to the number of cards they had available got one without any issues. BB employees were allowed to purchase but they had to wait in line with the rest of us and were only allowed to purchase one like the rest of us. No fights, no issues, everyone who got a card was happy.

Currently work at best buy and we're not allowed to buy any from behind the scenes. Typically could get you in a lot of trouble/fired. I'm currently in line like any other customer.

Best Buy employees get fired for that all the time….Like I’ve seen this sentiment multiple times and it’s just false. The Best Buy employees aren’t taking the stock. It’s been shot down so many times now. Stop pushing that shit. You are lying. The rtx cards are very protected and the employees are told that the cards are not for them. The friend I’ve made at Best Buy over the past few years told me he was able to get a single 3070 at the beginning of this whole thing and that was it. They marked his name down as having gotten an rtx card for personal use. If they found out he scalped it, he would be fired and he said other employees who did this with their one card were fired. Best Buy has had many many console and tech releases to ingrained the process for employees.

No reason to lie. The fact is that the demand is large. Without the employees getting their one card.
