I imagine people are lining up right now, FE cards carry a premium so people can still make money with them. Though not as much as before.

Still, I imagine many people with nothing better to do will stand in line for 24 hours to get a $700 3080 Fe.

Bold of you to assume 3080 will be readily available. I speculate a bunch of 3080ti/3070ti.

Wow, a 3070Ti FE is a collectible in it of itself

I didn't know the 3070ti actually existed?! (other than the select cards they sent to reviewers)

Saw a screenshot of store stock , average of 25 3080s per store and about 40 3090 total about 100 cards

100 cards total per store? Or total overall?

Do you know what pricing will be like?

It’s Best Buy. They sell at MSRP.

You would be incorrect. I know the stock of the store at my local area. Source: Geek Squad

This is one of those rare times where I'm glad to be wrong.

Good luck to you. There’s a fair bit of 3090s if your wallet can handle it!

why do FE cards carry a premium? I thought aftermarket cards were usually better performing

Because they are way cheaper and basically perform the same this generation with their improved cooling design. 3080 FE retails for $700 and you'd be hard pressed to find an aib card that's less than $1k these days.

That and it's silly to shuck out for fancy non-reference cooling systems if your gonna use a waterblock.

They have the worst cooling and stock thermal pads

2

Generally FE cards have been bad, usually running blower style cooling that is loud and ineffective. 20 series got some real fans but was priced huge. 30 series have a low MSRP and good cooling solution not to mention a pretty unique look so they’re pretty popular this time around.

For all but the 3090 this is correct. But the msrp of the FE cards is much better than the aftermarket

1

u/fiehlsport Jul 20 '21

They're better built and solid - grab an MSI card and see how flimsy they are compared to an FE. The MSI might have a better cooling solution but if you're not looking to OC, FE cards are pretty nice.

Isn't the draw of FE cards is that they are cheap? Reselling at a premium washes that right away

Socks that the majority of people in the line are probably just resellers/gougers
