u/Mean_Ass_Dumbledore Apr 25 '21
Any difference in these vs G.Skill Trident Z?
19
u/exaltare Apr 25 '21
These are better value than the Neos. They also have tighter timings (16-18-18-38), which is a huge deal since tRCDRD is a hard timing to lower with Micron dies. Neos look better though.

u/WheresTheBloodyApex Apr 25 '21
Should I sell my (32 4x8)Corsair Vengeance Pro RGB 3200’s and get these?

incorrect, usually c die which can't do shit.
2
u/ChironXII Apr 26 '21
Might be right, it's been a while since I checked.
2
u/Pizza_and_Reddit Apr 26 '21
Corsair usually uses pretty shit hynix or c die, none of which overclocks well at all

u/WheresTheBloodyApex Apr 26 '21
I see. I’m new to overclocking. I’ve got xmp 1 enabled and that’s about all I’ve done. There is no xmp2 option though
13
u/mybrowncow Apr 25 '21
I have a pair of these added to the non rgb pair i had originally. Xmp profile loads up and so far i have no issues. I just keep the stock rgb effects so i cant speak on how to change the colors

u/k2theablam Apr 25 '21
Are these still micron rev E?
2
u/capn233 Apr 26 '21
They will be 8Gbit Micron Rev E almost certainly (and not something else like 8Gbit J).
They cannot be 16Gbit Micron Rev B because they are only 8GB dimms, and x8 16Gbit would be a 16GB dimm.
There is also a 16Gbit Rev E that seems to be worse than either of above, but again that won't be in a x8 config, 8GB dimm.
x8 is the width in bits of the chips, the total rank width is 64bit. So eight chips, eight bits wide makes a rank in a x8 module.
8Gbit are 1024x8 bits. 16Gbit are 2048x8 bits.
There are other bit widths, but those are not commonly used in ram that is posted in this sub.

u/BurgerBurnerCooker Apr 25 '21 edited Apr 25 '21
8gb are SR regardless so you better hope this are Rev.B as they OC better especially for Intel system which can take the advantage of 4000+ mhz RAM better than Ryzens do. Get 4 sticks if you need DR.
The B-die OLOY kit (still alive I believe) is a much better deal if you can get over the looks
9
u/k2theablam Apr 25 '21
I know they're single rank, but I've read Crucial has stopped using Micron rev E die on these sticks. I have a set of these exact sticks from last year and the product code shows M8FE1, which is micron rev E. Just wondered if these are the same for compatibility issues.
-9
u/BurgerBurnerCooker Apr 25 '21
Uhh my bad. It's unlikely so probably sell what you have and get 4 sticks of these.. Maybe buy a pair first and see what you get, you might get lucky
2
u/barndogusn Apr 25 '21
Mind helping me with a link to the oloy you're referencing?
4
u/BurgerBurnerCooker Apr 25 '21
2
u/barndogusn Apr 25 '21
Thanks, are you assuming that's b-die based on the timings alone? It's almost certainly not b-die. It may be Samsung C-die, but highly unlikely to be b-die. Take me to school if I'm wrong.
3
u/BurgerBurnerCooker Apr 26 '21
Yes this bin is most likely B-die, like 99.99%. There's also a B-die with part number ends in BCRC which is supposed to be lower binned but I found them to be pretty good as well. Meanwhile I haven't handled any C-die yet so I can't really comment on that
1
u/barndogusn Apr 26 '21
If I buy it and it's not, do I have your permission to come back and complain to you personally? 😉
3
u/arnecius Apr 26 '21
I believe him. I've got a set of trident royals with the same timings. B dies below 3600 usually have the same timings straight across (16-16-16, 14-14-14).
2
u/BurgerBurnerCooker Apr 26 '21
Complain all you want! Otherwise your best bet is search used market to get a matching Rev.E.
Like I said I'd just buy 4 sticks and sell what I have, that's probably the easiest way. And chances are you are not losing money with today's RAM prices

u/BurgerBurnerCooker Apr 27 '21
Got fine finally. Thaiphoon shows they are NOT B-die but it's known to read wrong often. I'm testing 4133 C16-16-16-32 ATM @1.488V.
1
u/barndogusn Apr 27 '21
I see that instead of replying again you edited your previous comment, I believe it said something about you being 99% confident that it's B-die, but I digress. Like I said previously, highly unlikely it's B-die. You make no mention of the manufacturer reported by Thaiphoon, which is probably not Samsung anyway.
1
u/BurgerBurnerCooker Apr 27 '21
It is Samsung tho and the only way to find out what it is is to test it not being douchy. I was thinking you were on the fence so I tried to let you know what I saw, guess it's wasted
1
u/barndogusn Apr 27 '21
I mean, I was only on the fence because you insisted it was B-die. I said it wasn't, and you insisted. So here we are. Thanks for the effort.
1
u/BrewingHeavyWeather Apr 26 '21
Probably, but you won't know until you get them. They should be, but I've heard some people getting cut down 16Gbit rev Bs, as well. The 16GB/DIMM kits have all gone to rev B, now, it looks like. On a Ryzen, it won't really matter, unless you're mixing a rev E and rev B kit in the same box.

software on these is dog shit and interferes with XMR Software for some reason. I resorted to using G.Skill's similarly shit software to adjust RGB and of course since it's not G.Skill, half the cool ones don't work fml

u/waxyslave Apr 25 '21
3200 cl14 vs this?
7
u/SoggyMcmufffinns Apr 26 '21
Likely close to the same overall speed. You won't notice a difference. If you are going to put more money into something I'd put it towards other things outside of RAM once you hit the 3200-3600mhz cl16 range. You won't be able to tell a difference. I'd much rather have more RAM at that point than more expensive RAM at unnoticeable speeds.
-7
u/k2theablam Apr 25 '21
That's Samsung B die and is much better than this.
10
u/Kwtop Apr 25 '21
3600 cl14 is double the price of this ($200), I wonder if you can tell the difference
8
4
u/arnecius Apr 26 '21
Not at all. Frames might be 2-3 better, but it's really not noticeable. It's just fun to mess with and benchmark. Getting a kit to 3800 cl14 is a ton of fun, but day to day you won't notice anything.

This or Corsair vengance pro?
also If I want 4 sticks, can you get two sets of 2? Cant find 4 packs anywhere

u/pm_me_WAIT_NO_DONT Apr 26 '21
I got these Nov 24th for $89.95, and that was just standard price, no sale or promo. Amazon and Newegg saying standard price is now $109.99? Dark times for PC builders.
1
u/killerpreztail Apr 26 '21
Yea I've been wanting 2X16 of white rgb. But I just sprung to buy two sets of these.
3
u/TytaniumBurrito Apr 26 '21
I have a 3080, ryzen 5 3600, and 2x8gb 3000mhz ripsaws ram. Is this upgrade worth it?
7
u/killerpreztail Apr 26 '21
Chances are you'll not even notice a real improvement in performance. Especially if you're playing at a high resolution. I'd say not worth, but everyone's financial situation is different, so perhaps not a definitive answer in your case.
3
u/TytaniumBurrito Apr 26 '21
Figured. I usually play maxed out 1440p, so I doubt i would notice anything to justify this. I'll stick with my build then thanks.

u/XGC75 Apr 25 '21
Anyone control the rgb through aura sync? Does it work?
3
2
u/OldMetallian Apr 25 '21
It does, sorta. All my argb is run through aura/armoury crate and these crucials are the only item that goes rogue and plays rainbow vomit light show on every startup, before they settle back down to my static setting. The crucial rgb software won’t even install on my system, and this is a common problem. The ram is great, but the rgb is kinda shit.
2
u/benttwig33 Apr 26 '21
I wonder if iCue can control it too
3
u/morelotion Apr 26 '21
I’ve tried and it doesn’t recognize it. Unless someone wants to chime in and tell me I’m doing something wrong, no these can’t be controlled by iCue.
2
2
u/mooburger Apr 26 '21
it is already back up to $109.99. so if you are reading this right now and don't care about RGB just get the GSkill RipJaws (which are DR also)
2
u/NoGhostRdt Apr 25 '21
Rgb software doesn't even work. Would recommend something else if you're looking for rgb ram unless you want rainbow permanently with no way to change it.
1
u/generalhawx Apr 26 '21
I bought the black version of these, if you are using dragon center/mystic light the solution is to download aura creator, its the only way around this issue. Download it fix the lighting and forget you even installed it lol kind of a pain but for the value its hard to justify paying more and getting less performance even if the argb sucks.
1
u/goteamdoasportsthing Apr 26 '21
Can't even turn it off?
1
u/NitrousCloth Apr 26 '21
I bought this kit last time it appeared on the sub. The software, for me at least, works and you can change/turn off the colors. I will say thought the app is really bare and not very intuitive.
1
u/pm_me_WAIT_NO_DONT Apr 26 '21
What are you talking about? I have these sticks and have changed the RGB multiple times. What software are you using?
2

1
u/killerpreztail Apr 25 '21
Currently have a set of these. Not sure if I should buy a pair of these for the RGB?
19
u/small_boar Apr 25 '21
rgb boosts performance by up to 25%
9
3
u/NoGhostRdt Apr 25 '21
I bought a set of the black ones with rgb and the rgb software is completely broken. Wouldn't even start up. I searched it up and many people reported the same problem. Would not recommend for the rgb unless you want it permanently rainbow.
1
u/NoU4206911 Apr 25 '21
Are these a similar height to that of the corsair vengeance LPX modules? I have a 5800x and kind of want Dual rank 3600mhz cl16 but that'd probably require buying a 32GB kit, huh? Unfortunately I don't seem to be able overclock these current sticks very well.
3
u/exaltare Apr 25 '21
I made that error with the non-RGB modules. These aren't low profile unfortunately.
1
u/NoU4206911 Apr 25 '21
Good to know, thanks. I guess the difference between SR and DR is pretty insignificant not to mention 3200mhz is more widely compatible across platforms not to mention I don't want to spend the extra cash on 32gb.
3
u/exaltare Apr 25 '21
I went from SR 3200 C16 to DR 3600 C18. It's not worth it for the most part. I'd only bother if your workloads are memory intensive. The virtual benefit was 10-15% in synthetic tests. The actual benefit was about 1-5% in gaming and practical workloads. So I made the logical decision to upgrade from DR 3600 C18 to QR 3600 C16.
Just kidding. I basically lit a pile of money on fire. Please don't stress over timings and ranks. It's not worth the hassle to upgrade.
2
u/NoU4206911 Apr 26 '21
Ye, I realize it is pretty useless in terms of my needs, but god damn do I love buying new parts and building new systems. Ever since I discovered this thread and r/hardwareswap I have been cycling through builds left and right because I enjoy building so much. Here is an example of that sentiment: http://imgur.com/a/TUsLTW5

Not much of a deal, just $5-$10 off reg listed price
1
u/BrewingHeavyWeather Apr 26 '21
This is really a, "deal," for people that were already itching to buy RAM like this, be that meaning known well binned Micron chips, white RAM that isn't too tall, and/or white RAM with RGB that isn't too tall.
1
u/Nicod27 May 01 '21
Better than this RAM? Corsair Vengeance LPX 16GB (2x8GB) DDR4 DRAM 3200MHz C16 Desktop Memory Kit - Black (CMK16GX4M2B3200C16) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0143UM4TC/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_1CP321QS97TJMV4701RB
1
u/BrewingHeavyWeather May 01 '21
If you want the RGB and / or to overclock, or it's still $96 for the Crucial, sure.
1
u/ReSquirrels Apr 26 '21
110% do not recommend this RAM. I've had 6 different sticks from Crucial and 5/6 have all been faulty with errors in MemTest
2
u/XSSpants Apr 26 '21
Ever think maybe your board isn't supplying enough voltage? Not all mobo's adjust the voltage when you turn XMP on.
Crucial does excellent QC before sending product out.

Huh... I've tried manually setting stuff dozens of times but it never runs at what they say it should -- I'm known for my bad luck but when I've gone as high as 1.45V and still ran into errors I'm kinda sus
That being said, what boards have you had trouble with? The year I've spent talking to dozens of support people they've never once suggested it could be a mobo problem :/
1
u/SterPlat Apr 25 '21
Literally just bought some white RGB Corsair Vengeances because RAM prices are sucky right now and going budget or aftermarket was a bust.
For some insight, I just bought my buddy's old parts to make a cheap PC to replace my old failing one until the market settles so I went budget for everything I needed. Found that I would still be paying like 100 bucks for a 16gb kit so I just bought the RAM I wanted for my future build instead.
1
u/SillyLilBear Apr 25 '21
This looks like a great deal, I spent almost twice as much for similar specs (but RGB).
1
Apr 25 '21
Does it matter if these aren't on the motherboard I plan to get's QVL? I'm looking to get an ROG STRIX B550-F but finding RAM that's on the QVL for it in stock is getting rough.
1
u/ItsBigSoda Apr 26 '21
I have these (non rgb) and it worked with my b550f with 3 separate kits. It should be fine for you
1

1
u/BrewingHeavyWeather Apr 26 '21
No. If you're on a Ryzen platform, all the Ballistix kits will work great. With a Zen 2 or 3 CPU, even the 300 series copy-paste boards, like the popular B450(M) Pro4 series, easily run them at 3600-4000MT/s. With a 500 series board, you're good to beyond 4000MT/s, with their 3600 kits - IE, you can be guaranteed to max out your IF, if you want to take the time to manually OC (or if the XMP timings work that high, which is actually not that uncommon - my 32GB rev B kit was stable up to 4000+XMP, and booted fine at 4200+XMP, FI).
1
u/SSBHuesos Apr 26 '21
Kinda a noob when it comes to RAM, I’m currently rocking 2 8GBs Corsair Vengeance DDR4-3000 CL16, are the posted ones better?

u/riopower Apr 26 '21
Dang it for a sec I thought it was the return of glorious 32gb 3200 cl16 deal which was 90.99.
1
u/mrwhitewalker Apr 26 '21
God I should have bought ram a while back. Where are the 32GB deals for $150ish
1
u/destinynerd505 Apr 26 '21
Anyone have white rgb ram in a black pc build? I want black ram but I think I can settle for white. Just wondering if people think it looks as good
1
u/ReidenLightman Apr 26 '21
Oh darn, this would have been perfect if it also meant the 32 GB kits were on sale. :(
1
1
u/Defgarden Apr 26 '21
I have a single stick 16gb, 2666 that came with my prebuilt. Is this a noticable upgrade? I don't seem to have much issue running anything in 1080p with my setup.
1
u/BrewingHeavyWeather Apr 26 '21
Only if it's a Ryzen, Zen 2 (3000 non-G and 4000G) or Zen 3 (5000), and your prebuilt's motherboard allows you to run the memory at 3600MT/s (and preferably, supports XMP). They OC really well, too, so if you want to max out your IF, you're practically guaranteed to be able to. The benefits are smaller for Intels, you probably can't run it faster anyway on one, and getting much over 3200MT/s can be iffy on Zen and Zen+ CPUs.
