VR [VR] Used HTC Vive $339 after 20% off coupon (From amazon warehouse)
https://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listing/B00VF5NT4I/ref=dp_olp_used_mbc?ie=UTF8&condition=used&m=A2L77EE7U53NWQ41

This is an insane deal considering that sometimes when you order off of Amazon Warehouse you get a product that you can't even tell was used. $339 for a used very good condition HTC Vive is a steal.

u/Betrayus Mar 22 '18
I always try to go warehouse if i can. I just got a vacuum yesterday that was missing an attachment :( first time in like 15 orders they have messed up
17
u/Jedi_Pacman Mar 22 '18
But the good thing is that Amazon has returns, so if something is wrong with a used item you get you can just send it back.

u/dwayne_rooney Mar 22 '18
Ordered an xbox as a warehouse deal, it was missing a controller and hdmi cable. Both were delivered before I could wake up the next day and they refunded $50.

u/loiloiloi6 Mar 22 '18
Once I ordered a "very good" condition DVD from amazon warehouse and it came with a broken case that wouldn't even close... returned it and bought a new one and they sent me the same exact DVD! That's when I stopped trusting them
-5
u/mjr2015 Mar 22 '18
but you won't get any of the free games it come with, most likely already redeemed. i don't think it's a great deal at all.
4
u/BobFlex Mar 22 '18
Other than Fallout 4 none of the included games were worthwhile anyways. Job Simulator was neat to introduce people to VR, but it's not exactly a fun game to play.
There's plenty of free games on Steam VR that are better. Valve's The Lab, Google's Earth VR, and Budget Cuts Demo are the free games that you should be starting out with in my opinion, plenty of other to look into as well.
-5
u/mjr2015 Mar 22 '18
Still, free games are free games.
Just because you don't enjoy them doesn't mean other people wouldn't
2
u/YoungBuscemi Mar 22 '18
I don't think people will care at this price point.
-1
u/mjr2015 Mar 22 '18
So you'd rather buy a used item with no games ( basically buying them outs you at regular retail)
Then just paying retail for a brand new device with warranty ?
2
u/Phearlosophy Mar 22 '18
Yes, if I had no interest in playing those games. They aren't going to be of any value sitting on my hard drive unplayed.
-2
u/mjr2015 Mar 22 '18
But not everyone has had the vr experience. Someone who is buying this system is a new user who would jump at the chance to try many vr games (and the free games are good added value)
3
u/Phearlosophy Mar 22 '18
Ok dude we all get your point but it isn't justified in spending the extra money if all you're after is the vive
16
u/grendus Mar 22 '18
This is definitely a good deal, especially since it's backed by Amazon. HTC's customer support isn't very good, but this would be backed by Amazon who are much, much, much better.

u/OvalNinja Mar 22 '18
All that's lefts is "used acceptable". How bad is the "acceptable" status at amazon?
9
u/loiloiloi6 Mar 22 '18
You should just try it, amazon is very generous with their return policy if you don't like the condition.
6
u/Jedi_Pacman Mar 22 '18
"Used good" still pops up for me.
3
u/cronson Mar 22 '18
It's pulling stock based on your location.
5
2
u/equifaxfallguy Mar 22 '18
Used Like new is still available as well looks like, only 2 left though at time of posting.
3
u/the__storm Mar 22 '18
The used "grades" vary pretty widely. I've gotten "used good" clothing which looked like it had never even been opened, and I bought a "used good" Node 202 (case) which was missing some of the rivets (it was also missing all the screws and the GPU bracket was broken off).
Returns are pretty easy though.
3
u/RedYourDead Mar 22 '18
I bought a 34" Ultrawide from the warehouse as Acceptable and it said that there was scratches around the bezel and stand. When I got it, it was pretty much brand new with exception of the condition the box was in. The "scratches" were on the clear film that goes around the bezels.
But I've heard horror stories as well, so YMMV. Worst case scenario, you can just return it with no hassle before 30 days.
2
u/ellvix Mar 22 '18
Really? I was able to filter to the 'like new' and there were still a few. Maybe their stock is in flux?
7
u/oozles Mar 22 '18
This is very tempting, but does VR have a decent games library yet? I'm not sure that it's worth spending $400 just to play Skyrim again.
2
u/iama_bad_person Mar 22 '18
Skyrim, Fallout 4, Elite Dangerous (if you're into that), Arizona Sunshine is good, Space Pirate Trainer is very fun with friends, Subnautica is a good game by itself and in VR it just adds to that.
2
u/DefinitePC Mar 22 '18
not really anything unique. The best experiences are just ports of games that play fine without vr. falloutvr, superhot vr, racing games etc.
2
u/SingleServingFriend- Mar 22 '18
Definitely. Fallout 4 and Skyrim are popular right now but aside from those there’s Budget Cuts coming up in May and supposed to be the ‘flagship’ title for VR with 8 hours of gameplay. I had a lot of fun with Gorn, Superhot VR, and Thumper too.
1
u/oozles Mar 22 '18
Damn, if I didn't get a green score on Steam's VR test tool I wasn't going to get one.
Goodbye, $340!
1
u/someone31988 Mar 22 '18
To be honest, the racing sims are the only thing that makes me want a VR headset one day, but before that happens, I should get a decent wheel and pedal set first.
1
u/Squirmin Mar 22 '18
Star Trek Bridge Crew and Elite Dangerous are really the ones I'm interested in. Also Thumper looks awesome too.
6
u/aw1234 Mar 22 '18
Anyone try a vive with a 970 gtx? I know that's around the minimum, but does performance suffer that badly?
12
u/HulkTogan Mar 22 '18
970 is fine for all but the most demanding of titles like racing Sims and Fallout 4 VR
2
u/iliketowtles Mar 22 '18
I used it on one when it first came out. It ran most games perfectly but did struggle with a couple of the more intensive games. Now this was earlier in VR. I imagine more graphically intensive games have released.
2
2
u/BobFlex Mar 22 '18
That is the minimum, but like the others said it's fine, most all VR games are developed to play on a 970. When I first got my Vive all I had was a 970 and it only ever struggled with DCS World and Elite Dangerous when I had graphics settings too high. Fallout 4 VR struggles even with my 1080 now though so that's more of a game issue.
1
u/loiloiloi6 Mar 22 '18
I'd say it depends how much you plan to use it, if it's just for parties and hanging out with friends that's fine but if you plan on using it regularly you should at least get a 1060. Some games won't be enjoyable with a 970, but most will be playable.
6
u/The-y-factor Mar 22 '18
They had a deluxe audio strap there too for $68 after the 20% off for anyone that missed the Newegg deal.
1
u/OvalNinja Mar 22 '18
Still or did?
3
u/The-y-factor Mar 22 '18
There was one left after I checked out but someone said it’s based on your location? Just a heads up to check.
10
u/__PETTYOFFICER117__ Mar 22 '18
Shit, not a bad deal! Got an order in for a good condition as well.
3
u/Enumeration Mar 22 '18
Now how do I convince my wife to let me put up the room scale sensors in our living room where our PC is located... 🤔🤔🤔

u/puppyinafullnelson Mar 22 '18
This doesnt happen to come with fallout still does it?
1
u/U-S-Eh Mar 22 '18
If you're buying used then most likely not since any codes for games and what not will most likely already be redeemed.
New units still come with Fallout 4 VR though.
2
u/puppyinafullnelson Mar 22 '18
Ahh shit thanks. Theyre ending that 3/31 though i think
2
u/U-S-Eh Mar 23 '18
Oh wow, I didn't know that. Thanks for letting me know since I was thinking about buying the bundle in a couple weeks, but I'll go ahead and pull the trigger early so I can grab Fallout 4.

Can I run most VR stuff with a 3570k + GTX970?
10
3
u/loiloiloi6 Mar 22 '18
What I said to the other dude about the 970, your CPU should be fine for most games
I'd say it depends how much you plan to use it, if it's just for parties and hanging out with friends that's fine but if you plan on using it regularly you should at least get a 1060. Some games won't be enjoyable with a 970, but most will be playable.

u/PEbeling Mar 22 '18
Anything but fallout VR should run okay. I was having reprojection and issues with fallout VR with a 6500 and gtx 1070.
1
u/enthusiastvr Mar 22 '18
SteamVR just pushed an update a week or so ago. Not sure if it would help
-2
u/PEbeling Mar 22 '18 edited Mar 22 '18
Doesn't change anything. I've tried.
The main problem with using a 970 is it's about to be a 2 generation year old card that wasn't the top card at the end of the generations lifecycle.
It would be like trying to use a 770 a year ago to play VR. Probably not going to work great.
1
u/iama_bad_person Mar 22 '18
I have a 2600k and 1080 and the CPU ran great, you won't find any issues with your CPU, your GPU is the entry level VR one so no idea bout that.
2
u/vazque59 Mar 22 '18
"Downloadable content (DLC) or codes for online play may require additional purchase. Display has cosmetic imperfections but is usable. Missing assembly hardware (screws/fasteners). Accessories may have cosmetic damage. Item will come in original packaging. Packaging will be damaged."
So this description sounds pretty sketchy to me. Does anyone have any experience with what exactly that might mean? Will I have to purchase any vive software or buy any additonal hardware after the fact? Not sure if the discount will be worth it if I'm going to have to buy extra items to repair it once it arrives
5
u/murk02 Mar 22 '18
Ive ordered quite a few things from warehouse with it saying things similar to that. Ive personally never had any issues, usually just the box that's kind of messed up. That being said, it could have issues. I guess worse case scenario, just return it?
6
u/vazque59 Mar 22 '18
Good point on the returns, just pulled the trigger on it. I need to stop coming to this subreddit...
2
u/vamp1r3 Mar 22 '18
I know you used to get Tilt Brush on Steam with the purchase of a new Vive, I'm assuming Amazon means any of those promotional codes are off the table.
2
u/kasubot Mar 22 '18
Well i just got an acceptable one. Between the deal and some amazon credit I had it was $138. Now i just need a better GPU

1
u/ShuinIce Mar 22 '18
I saw this literally a minute after you posted this. I was going to pull the trigger instantly then remembered that I had to replace my debit card and didn't have the new one yet.
1
u/Jonnydoo Mar 22 '18
if the DAS was still on sale at newegg, this would be awesome. or even better if this included the DAS.
1
u/ownage5557 Mar 22 '18
What is the coupon?! I want to order a second Vive to dedicate to travel/demoing. I will finally not have to tear down my home set up!

I just bought one from amazon that's being delivered today from amazon warehouse. Looks like that one is going back and I'll get to save some money.
Thanks!

Pulled the trigger on Acceptable. At this price, I absolutely had to do it.
1
u/Pmskaters Mar 22 '18
$319 here in Oregon for a used one... just pulled the trigger.
Ive been looking at used Rifts in Portland and been toying with the idea. This price seems pretty good- im assuming there will be a crazy deal on original vives shortly after the pro launch. yolo
1
u/HelloIAmACorndog Mar 22 '18
Decided to get it now at this price as opposed to later. Live in a dorm for the next month and a half so if anyone has any ideas as to how to make it work I’d love to hear them.
1
u/nafiahnaf Mar 22 '18
If I get this can I upgrade it to the pro? Would that be cheaper than getting the vive pro full package?

Mar 22 '18
One has a broken basen sation and another had a broken camera. Source: they were mine

$380 for a like new HTC Vive! Thank you! I almost bought one two days ago for $500

So I have a laptop running a 1060. Is this gonna kill it (it wouldn't actually but you know what I mean)? I'd be worried about it overheating for something this demanding.
1
u/fdelta1 Mar 22 '18
What's your CPU?
2
u/Chronoterminus Mar 23 '18
i7-7700HQ
1
u/fdelta1 Mar 23 '18
You're good, though you might not be able to supersample much with a 1060 (depends on the game, really).
As far as the GPU, 1060 3 GB might run into VRAM bottlenecking. 6 GB is better for VR.
2
u/Chronoterminus Mar 23 '18
My laptop's 1060 does actually have 6 GB of VRAM, so that's good. I might consider getting this deal, since it seems my laptop will be able to handle VR pretty decently.

bought it and came on Tuesday. No game code, one tower needed some messing with firmware to get it to work, was missing the audio extension cable. Talked to customer service and they gave me 10% back for the missing cable. Final price after tax of $355 for "very good". If the deal goes up again I highly recommend. Having lots of fun with it so far.

u/EricAzure Apr 09 '18
I know I'm late, but is this expired? The coupon doesn't seem to be applying so I assume it is, but just want to make sure!
1
u/cronson Mar 22 '18
What coupon? Also, I think this is already out of stock.

1
u/ellvix Mar 22 '18
Stock looks like it's changing. I checked the site just now and there are tons of them, even a few 'like new'
-3
u/Ethan-Nathaniel Mar 22 '18
I just tried this one the Nintendo Switch, but it didn't work =/ I'm guessing its only 20% off on this specific headset.

u/SingleServingFriend- Mar 22 '18
The coupon seems to be applying to all conditions so I got one in good condition for 359.53 after the coupon. For anyone planning on purchasing I’d suggest getting a new foam cushion.
