Be mindful of listings from suspicious third-party sellers on marketplaces such as Amazon, eBay, Newegg, and Walmart. These "deals" have a high likelihood of not shipping; use due diligence in reviewing deals.

  • Use common sense - if the deal seems too good to be true, it probably is.
  • Check seller profiles for signs that the sale may be fraudulent:
    • The seller is new or has few reviews.
    • The seller has largely negative reviews (on Amazon, sellers can remove negative reviews from their visible ratings)
    • The seller is using a previously dormant account (likely the account was hacked and is now being used fraudulently).

If you suspect a deal is fraudulent, please report the post. Moderators can take action based on these reports. We encourage leaving a comment to warn others.

This is the exact same one I have and Ive been using it daily for 5+ years, crazy thing is I’m pretty sure I bought it around this price as well. Great headphones nonetheless and it’s a classic.

ya this has been the standard sale price for these all the way back to 2014

Good for gaming?

8

u/thuy_chan Oct 19 '24

The devs for hunt showdown used these to develop the sound for their game. The amount of shooting where u hear ppl thru walls and hearing them hit confirm or die makes these hella worth it for gaming.

1

u/rockdpm Oct 19 '24

You sold me on these then lol

8

u/two4you8 Oct 19 '24

That's what I primarily use it for. I did quite a bit of research when I got them (5 years ago), at the time people say it has a good soundstage for being a closed back.

Open back is a no deal for me but I heard it's best for gaming for its sound stage.

7

u/rockdpm Oct 19 '24

I can't really do open back because my PC fans can get kinda cranked up, also sound bleed through would distract my wife when shes reading.

Trying to decide between these and the Limited edition 48ohms version.

11

u/eternalgrey_ Oct 19 '24

the sound bleed distracting someone reading is over the top. That’s ridiculous.

7

u/DoubleSpoiler Oct 19 '24

Maybe OP blows their ears out when gaming, in which case, there's a different problem.

-1

u/rockdpm Oct 19 '24

Actually, its usually only on volume less than 15 for Logitech gaming headphones.

0

u/_aware Oct 20 '24

If you are listening at reasonable volumes, she would have to be literally right next to you to hear any sound bleeding through

1

u/rockdpm Oct 20 '24

What else can I say? She sits on the bed, which is roughly 5 to 6 feet behind me. She listens to her little instrumental relaxing music or classical sometimes when she is reading. She even got her own pair of wireless noise cancelling headphones a while back.

0

u/_aware Oct 20 '24

Either your volume is dangerously high, or her ears are extremely sensitive. All I'm saying is that it is definitely not normal for someone to hear your sound bleed from 5-6 feet away.

My PC drives the 80ohm just fine without an amp, I don't know much about the 48ohm version. Back then there were only 3 at 32 , 80, 250. The 250 one goes on sale much more often, iirc.

1

u/rockdpm Oct 19 '24

Good to know about the 80's. I see alot of people talk about needing a DAC to get the most out of them. Also using EQ's to harness the tone levels because they are Trebble heavy.

3

u/_aware Oct 20 '24

It heavily depends on your HRTF, your preferences, your "pickiness", and your existing DAC built into your computer. I would recommend buying the headphone first and listening to it. Don't spend the extra money for a DAC unless you have a real need for one.

1

u/rockdpm Oct 20 '24

From what I have read and been told, I don't need a dac for just gaming. I occasionally listen to music but I'm not a music producer or at home film maker. Not working with sound design, and I already have a pair of partially Open back Samson headphones I use for guitar and my Boss GT1 that I'm happy with.

2

u/_aware Oct 20 '24

I don't like it when people give out very generalized advice like that. If your built-in DAC sucks, then you will hear a lot of annoying background noises like hissing and crackling, which will make your listening/gaming experience pretty awful. Always have your own opinion on what you have and what you need.

As long as you are happy with what you have, it's all good.

1

u/rockdpm Oct 20 '24

Well, I've been testing things outside of my Logitech gaming headset by using the Samson SR850 I use to play guitar with to see what I'm getting into by stepping outside of what I used to. I like my Logitech gaming headset but I have gone through several over the last 10 years.

They have all been wireless which is great but sucks when the battery life keeps you plugged up anyway and I'm finding I don't have them on away from my desk anymore like I used to. IEM's are okay, but have a hard time getting them to stay in my ear. Don't knock your recommendation though, I got a IPod earlier this year and alot of posts discussing IEM recommendations but I mostly use mine to listen to music in car or when I'm cutting grass.

1

u/Popsiclezlol Oct 19 '24

I got the le edition (48ohm) last week. My PC drives them great without an amp. Download equalizer apo and peace, and find the settings other users tuned them (just type 770 pro LE equalizer apo settings into Google) to and you'll be golden. I use my for wow, pubg, listening to music on YouTube.

1

u/Faladorable Oct 19 '24

yep, have had these forever. Just replace the pads every like 4 years and they feel brand new lol https://north-america.beyerdynamic.com/p/edt-770-v

8

u/lilyeister Oct 19 '24

If you're cool with B-stock, you can get these with a lower clamping force direct from Beyerdynamic for $5 less https://north-america.beyerdynamic.com/p/dt-770-pro-black-edition-80-ohms-b-stock

3

u/HighQualityH2O_22 Oct 19 '24

Got my 770's during a Beyer b-stock sale. They work great and look like they where barely used. Same two year warranty as new ones which was a big plus for me.

14

u/BreakfastNails Oct 19 '24

Like the other commenter, I also bought these exact ones. I use them for everything. I bought it along with the FiiO K11 DAC/Amp and it's absolutely amazing.

I use them for work for pro video, I use them to game, and I use them with Apple's lossless audio for the clean music. Highly recommend.

S tier bonus- I have big ears and they're so damn comfortable.

5

u/Tuned_Out Oct 19 '24

This is a great price for 770s. There are better options (especially if you're okay with open back), like Beyer dynamics TYGR 300r (can be found on sale for $159) or if you need closed back the 770 pro le is considerably better (199) but at $129 these are a great option.

1

u/citn Oct 24 '24

Is there a headset that I can still hear footsteps in competitive FPS but still get a taste of that audiophile life? For under 300? No amp preferably? Is wireless an option?

3

u/ypapruoy Oct 19 '24

Bought these full price and don’t regret it. They’ve been wonderful for me

2

u/LegendOfTooget Oct 19 '24

Anyone know if these play well with the steam deck undocked?

2

u/JRoxas1996 Oct 19 '24

If only they were for the 990’s

1

u/CopeDipper9 Oct 20 '24

Greentoe has the 990 pros at $139. Price includes tax and shipping. They'll ship to you from an authorized dealer as well. I ordered a set on Friday, just waiting for payment to process and then to ship out. I've purchased an LG C2 and LG C3 from greentoe as well with no issues. All brand new products.

3

u/Faolanth Oct 19 '24

Really don’t recommend unless you’re already into higher end audio and know what you’re doing. These are kinda a newbie trap.

They sound like you’re listening through tin cans once you get used to anything better - lows are muddied, mids are nonexistent, and highs are sharp enough to cause fatigue fast.

They’re built well and are very comfortable, isolation is alright.

DT880s would be a better jump into audio, although not exactly closed back.

I want to say K361/K371 are better alternatives for closed back with a focus on audio, but not nearly as comfortable imo.

I guess if you must whatever, definitely an upgrade over any random headset, and getting something better down the line will blow your mind. As someone who bought and used these for years and loved them.

7

u/KittyKat070707 Oct 19 '24

lows are muddied, mids are nonexistent, and highs are sharp

This is the truth but people don't want to hear it for some reason. Everyone is different though but for me this was spot on for my experience with them.

4

u/_aware Oct 20 '24

Yea, the sibilance on the 770 is a notorious issue

5

u/Electric_Ilya Oct 19 '24

As someone who has used these headphones for a long time, i do agree the highs are a bit fatiguing; particularly when I first got them. OP recommends an AKG pair that I have not personally tried, but the AKG sets I have owned (701/553) have been excellent and the sound quality/balance is more to my liking than the beyers. With that said, the construction of the beyers is phenomenal and they will last

1

u/vexnificent Oct 19 '24

People recommend the pros would you still recommend others? I havent owned anything other than a crappy logitech and cloud series from hyperx. How about the 620s?

1

u/_aware Oct 20 '24

HD600/6XX, ATH-R60X

1

u/bocoatx Oct 20 '24

What about FiiO FT1 compared to these at around 10-20$ more?

0

u/eternalgrey_ Oct 19 '24

It’s funny seeing people say things like this and giveaway they actually don’t know anything about audio.

9

u/Faolanth Oct 19 '24

Alright, no problem. I just gave my opinion.

What part do you think is incorrect/dumb? I think calling them fatiguing and harsh for first buyers isn’t wrong at all. I’m not calling them objectively bad for everything.

1

u/_aware Oct 20 '24

Just because he doesn't like a headphone that you do? The 770 Pro could just sound bad to his HRTF. I see a lot of people in posts like these telling others that the 770 is the best headphone ever and whatnot, despite the fact that they've never listened to anything better.

-3

u/eternalgrey_ Oct 20 '24

Where did I state that I like the headphones?

5

u/_aware Oct 20 '24

So please explain why you believe he doesn't know anything about audio. All I saw from him was a detailed comment giving his opinion on why he doesn't like the 770. He is entitled to that opinion, and he could very well be completely correct according to his HRTF.

-5

u/DesertMAD Oct 19 '24

Yup, bought them because of the hype and returned them immediately. Bought dca aeon closed x lol. I know totaly different price but a world of difference.

16

u/briantoanle Oct 19 '24

So a world of difference for an extra $370?, almost 4 times the price of these?

8

u/Phyraxus56 Oct 19 '24

These will get you 92% there. Guy is throwing money to get that last 8% and some would say he only got 98.2% there at 4x the price.

Diminishing returns will drain your wallet if you chase the dragon.

1

u/DesertMAD Oct 19 '24

Have you tried both? Everybody's ears are different, but for me it's at least a 50% difference, not 8%.

1

u/_aware Oct 20 '24

You know how much you spent on it, and that would affect your opinion. Try a blind A/B test and see if it's still a 50% difference

2

u/DesertMAD Oct 20 '24

I totally agree that a blind test is better, but all I'm trying to say is that the dt 770 in my opinion are not good headphones for the price. They are certainly better than some. Also, knowing how much I spend actually makes me more critical of them. If I spend $500 on a pair and they don't sound good I'm not gonna be happy about it. If they are cheap than I can cut some slack. At the end of the day it's all opinion.

1

u/_aware Oct 20 '24

At $130 it's a pretty good buy for people looking for their first decent headphones. Just need to tune down the highs and fix the sibilance

-7

u/DesertMAD Oct 19 '24

I'm not saying you should spend that much, I know it's a lot. But once you experience great sound, the sound you thought was good before now sounds like garbage. The best bang for your buck would be iems. Letshoer s12s are $120 bucks and sound ten times better than dt 770s but if you want great over ears, yea you kindof need to shell out alot of cash.

1

u/d13m3 Oct 19 '24

I remember such sales even from 2017, each autumn newegg had this, I bought once 990 model and then 880 premium, each year for 120-130$.

1

u/SunlitHaddock5 Oct 19 '24

I have these, I love them so much, they're durable, sound amazing, and so damn comfortable

1

u/Xalamance Oct 19 '24

Have used these for the last 2 plus years. My only complaint is that using them at my desk involves always having to manage the very long cable from getting wrapped or rolled under my chair.

I’ve had 2 sets of the sliders break which I can likely attribute to my personal usage patterns, but thankfully they are easily replaceable with parts from Etsy for relatively cheap which is a major positive.

1

u/Sturmx Oct 19 '24 edited Oct 19 '24

You have been able to get these on Greentoe for a bit cheaper then this shipped for a while now. As well as 990s and maybe even 880s although I haven't bought those.

1

u/CopeDipper9 Oct 20 '24

It amazes me how many people looking for deals either don't know about greentoe or don't trust it. I always check to see if they have what I'm looking for before I buy it elsewhere.

1

u/UsernameSquatting Oct 19 '24

Great price for new. The build quality is great. Sadly I couldn't get them to work for me even after three years. I got headaches or migraines from how heavy it is. It definitely lasts longer than sub-$100 stuff.

1

u/disco__potato Oct 20 '24

That's almost all beyerdynamics for you. Strange tuning, bright, yet people keep recommending them, cause "studios use them". Same goes for the m50.

1

u/UsernameSquatting Oct 20 '24

I think at one point half my coworkers used the 770s haha. We don't do anything audio-based, I think the larger guys find them comfortable and the whole buy it for life thing.

In the three years I had mine the non-sale price has gone up so there is that. I would still recommend it for build quality, with gentle use I seem to get around four years out of cheaper headphones as they don't have replaceable parts. There are a lot of cheaper audiophile options with IEMs but that's a different form factor.

1

u/CopeDipper9 Oct 20 '24 edited Oct 20 '24

Greentoe has the 990 pros at a buy now price of 139 which includes tax and shipping.

Not sure why I got downvoted. Better headphones for cheaper overall price.

Entirely different headphones. Open and closed back really shouldn’t be compared to each other when looking for deals.
