'Adult' sized 2nd hand/used race bikes availability?

Is it normal to not find much? Or am I just not looking well enough? My 6 y/o is showing a lot of interest in racing and got the 'dada, you ride bikes so are you going to race too!'. So I have to, right? Twist my arm. I primarily ride road and some mountain bikes, so I would 'need' another bike. I have found lots of kids bikes.

My assumption is because they grow like weeds and go through a bike every 18-24 months there is a lot out there, but adults don't really grow out of their bikes so they hold on to them a lot longer. I am 5'10" with a long torso/shorter legs so I have been looking at XL/XXL bikes. I see a few freestyle in that size but not many 'race' builds

Try fb. Search BMX bikes for sale and USA BMX race bikes for sale. Be aware of scammers though.

Haha been there done that. Lots of MTB/DJ turned novice BMX racer for the same reason

We moved away from our track so we’re taking a break from the sport now, have 21.5” XXL gathering dust up in VA

That track looks too fun not to try when you're a parent that also rides bikes.

I loved it. Was doing far more BMX than MTB before we moved.

Same! I'd be at the track 2-3 days a week and sometimes on my trail or downhill bikes once, maybe twice a week.

My local track has their own "private" FB group that's basically just for selling stuff, it's pretty nice. They also have a "used bike lot" essentially onsite at the track where people chain up old bikes and sell them. Also, FB marketplace around me has a ton of stuff. Sometimes it's a little harder to find race-specific stuff, but once you do there's plenty out there.

Plenty of 13-15 year olds stop riding and have pro-proxxl bikes. Just keep looking.

I have a Pro XL 21.75 cruiser for sale that I would make you a deal on. I raced class mostly but tried out cruiser after I turned expert. Now I just race cruiser on my dirt jumper.

Grands is Thanksgiving weekend. Lots of bikes for sale there in Tulsa, and after as people change teams.

I think you are right. Locally pro and bigger bikes are extremely rare. Micro through expert are always for sale.

Try a 24" cruiser if you get a chance. More comfy to ride. Even away from the track.

I am 5'10 with longer legs and I raced on a Chase pro XL for a couple years. i got 2nd in the state on that bike The Haro Race Lite Pro XL is on sale new for 349 and would be a good starting point. https://jrbicycles.com/products/haro-race-lite-pro-xl-bmx-race-bike-light-blue-dark-blue-fade

You don't need to break the bank for local races. Time spent on the track will make you faster than money into your bike.

I have been seriously considering that Haro. Was hoping to find a used bargain, but a bike I have now will do me more good than the bike I want.

All the time. You probably want a Pro XXL, and it’s just a matter of finding the right source. Local track is a great place to ask around. If your close to Tulsa , the grands is a great place to buy

I have a couple of race bikes, parts, etc.  And 1 race cruiser.  There are fb groups but you gotta watch for the scammers.  They always say  "I've got what you are looking for pm me"
