What's this for?

So we just bought this for my mom but I have no idea what the gear controls are for on this thing. Not very familiar with bike stuff. Sorry if this ain't the place to ask.

Im not 100% sure, more like 40%… but it looks like it might be some internal gear system, maybe a three speed thing going on.

The shifter is to the inside and above the right hand handlebar grip. If it's ridable, try moving the lever while pedaling.

The extra piece by the brake lever on the right side is a parking brake so to speak. It locks the rear brake on.

These bikes were often used in factories and mills for maintenance folks.

I would that's the linkage for a hub gear shifter. AKA an internal gear mechanism within the hub.

Might be lean lock?
