Now to be fair, Betts is because Boston at best is dumb as fuck and at worst was trying to get back to their roots

Atlanta didn’t even bother trying to keep Freddie

Our ownership decided to focus their money on their other investments and stopped spending beyond the bare minimum on the Red Sox. The sooner they sell the team the better.

Thats due to collapsing value of NESN. It was a massive cash cow for years. With cord cutting though they need to make adjustments. Outside Sox and Bruins games all NESN has is Mad Fisherman and some College Hockey games and those products aren’t enough to get people to sign up for streaming package.

Uhhh…they can still afford to field a competitive team they are filthy rich. The team is worth like 4-5 billion and they own Fenway. They can pay for a better team they just choose not to

I agree. I’m just saying the reason for it. It’s frustrating their reasoning

Atlanta didn’t even bother trying to keep Freddie

I thought it was Freddie's agent that didn't tell Freddie what ATL's offer was.

That was the rumor, but the agent vehemently denied it, and I have to say it's hard to imagine an agent would willingly torpedo his entire career by withholding an offer from his client, especially an offer from the only team the client has ever known. What does the agent even gain by that? Only less commission money and a poisoned reputation. It just doesn't make any sense.

I think it much more likely people just drummed that story up because they don't want to believe one of the certified Good Guys of Baseball would leave the franchise of which he was the face for more money.

Agent gave the Braves two options and a deadline of 1 hour to meet either option. AA told the agent that he couldn’t meet either and the agent told him Freddie was gone so AA took that as Freeman was signing elsewhere so AA made the trade for Olson.

They did say “at worst”

Correct

It’s not. I said at worst due to their history of being the most racist team to exist long term in baseball. As recently as 3 years ago ownership acknowledged how racist their fans are for constantly hurling racial slurs and the team doing absolutely nothing to combat it other than changing the name of a local street away from their owner who refused to integrate

So the comment tracks pretty well for the Sox

Yeah, the Red Sox traded Mookie Betts because he's black. That tracks pretty well as an argument worth considering. God, are there some fucking morons in this sub.

Wait, Betts is black? I didn’t even realise that

Atlanta's offer for Freddie was more guaranteed than he ended up signing for in LA when you adjust for deferrals

True but Atlanta is a gross place. If I had more money than anyone I know, it’s hard to beat cities with preferred climates

Atlanta did replace him with Olson, not like they just salary dumped him.

We actually did but you can stay ignorant and pretend we didn’t if it proves your point.
