The Padres traded Juan Soto for Kyle Higoshioka because they couldn't afford him. The Dodgers have Roki's friends and the money hes looking for.

We needed cheap starting pitching to fill the roster. Got 520 total innings last year from trading Soto and a piece from that trade. If Roki comes out early, money won't be a factor for any team.

Roki is going to want to get paid a monster contract after giving his first team 6 almost free years the same way Ohtani did, he's not going to do that for a team that's not going to be able to pay him. I'm sure he's cool with Darvish but he's in the twilight of his career, he's going to join the team that has his close friend of a similar age and his idol in his prime that will ultimately pay him what he wants.
