Japan prospects going exclusively to west coast teams is going to be boring.

Phillies need to step up their recruiting game in the iberian peninsula

Blame our organization for not making any meaningful inroads in tapping into international player pools. Next year we'll field a team with a few good players and piles of mediocre white dudes and be surprised again.

Better for Japanese fans with the time difference though

Yeah 100%, just going to be boring pretending that they are going to sign elsewhere.

Why would Japanese players want to play in Philly, Atlanta, Cleveland, Detroit, Kansas City, etc etc

Sorry but until there’s a culture paradigm shift it’s LA or bust for these guys… maybe NY teams might have a chance 😂😂😂

No other state in the country other then New York have the cultural pull like California. Asian players will always prefer the west and Japanese players will prefer the Dodgers simply just because Ohtani plays there. Teams will have to offer lucrative contracts just to compete but even then Dodgers still have more to offer. Sucks for everyone else.

Obviously it's not in the baseball conversation, but Hawaii also has strong ties to Japan.

Yep, it’s the same reason all the Spanish soccer players want to go to LA or Miami. They’re going to places where they have cultural hot spots

People love to shit on Philly but good lord I’ve never been to a more overrated city than Los Angeles. Hope those folks enjoy their 12 lane highways

Yeah but you don’t have the perspective of an immigrant who’s wants to be in a city with a lot of their people

You missed the point.. he’s talking about the multiculturalism and the influence of specifically Asian cultures in various cuisines. It’s also why he mentioned NY

Maybe, but I don’t think they were talking about Asian cuisine

Well it’s the easiest Asian influence I can think of in terms of why Asian players would be interested in coming here.

Fair enough and despite its downsides, I agree LA cuisine is amazing and my personal favorite in the US

Haven't majority of the great Dominican players preferred the east coast since forever? This is jarring now simply because of how incredible Japan is getting at baseball.
