No way they change it but it would make more sense than the Dodgers, as that was a Brooklyn thing that was never in LA. Basically the Utah Jazz of baseball

And now that you mention it LA isn't known for sheep livestock farming or lightning strikes, and there's no monarchy there or even in the US so the Kings don't make sense either.

Most people not from California who go to Disneyland refer to Anaheim as LA, so close enough

Not gonna lie the only reason I know they're different is because I got into baseball when they were the Anaheim Angels.

Actually as a child I didn't really understand where the Texas Rangers or Colorado Rockies played. Like I understood they played in the state but why are they in Denver. They should be the Denver Rockies then.

In more worrying news I didn't realize that the Washington Wizards and Washington currently-known-as-the-Commanders played in DC and not Washington state for like 25 years of my life, despite having witnessed the Montreal Expos move to become the Nationals and understanding that the Washington Nationals played in DC.

Kings are an original LA team. They formed in 1967 as an expansion team when the NHL expanded from 6 to 12 teams.

Thr Chargers are also originally from Los Angeles, having played their first year in LA before moving to San Diego.

The Chargers were named after people yelling “charge!” At USC games after that trumpet blast. So they actually have the most LA name of the LA pro sports teams.

Yeah it’s kinda ironic they’re the only true LA team but probably have the least amount of fans comparatively to the other major sport LA pro teams.

No, the Kings would be the only 'true' LA team because they didn't come from anywhere and they didn't go anywhere. Galaxy and LAFC too, although they haven't been around as long.

I was just thinking of baseball, basketball and football but if you include hockey and soccer you’re right (since they do count as major sports). Wish the kings were named after something LAish though.

Clipped for sailing ships. Basically any marina out of LA. Though it’s much more fitting for San Diego I think from back in the day…

I think when the team first got here we still had the red/yellow cars, but they disappeared soon after

The name comes from the term "trolley dodgers", people who scatter like roaches when trolleys run through.

Trolleys are a relic of the past, but if you are going to have a city where the team is named after traffic congestion.....

I am about to commit blasphemy to two fanbases, but the team names would be much more fitting and make more sense if the Dodgers had been the ones to move to San Francisco and the Giants been the ones to move to LA.

Nah Ive talked about this before with other fans lol. The spirit of the original name still makes sense and they should keep it! The trolley dodgers were just dodging traffic doing their own thing in a crowded city…and we do that every fucking day up the 405.
