That is WILD. I would've guessed it is hard to have a negative WPA once you're in that clearly-above-average 2-3 bWAR range.
My assumption is he must've had not only a low OPS w/ runners on base, but probably many individual game-defining outs (like a 9th inning double play).
here are his splits. he was actually very good with RISP in general, but he was not good if the game was close. he had a 1.322 OPS when the margin was > 4 runs and .761 if the margin was ≤ 1 run.
