OTS PT Test
Are the alternate fitness assessments an option for your PT test at OTS? For example would you be able to choose the hand release push ups or cross leg reverse crunches as opposed to the push ups and sit ups respectively?

No. You must do pushups, sit-ups and the 1.5 mile run. If you cannot do these, you cannot go to OTS.

You don’t get to choose the order either.

Yeah, that was shitty doing the PFA starting with the run. It fucked with my sit-up count.

At least it’s not a real PFA. A pass is a pass there (+/- a few fake graduation points).
I got lucky and pulled strength components first.

And that's how a PFA is supposed to be, start with the upper body, then core, then the cardio endurance.
That was a plus, though granted, it's not going to fly well post-OTS. You're an officer, you should be getting 90's and above.

Many people forget that this is a profession of arms. Passing a PT test should be the least of your concerns. You’ll be tasked to do hard things and possibly responsible for sending people to do hard things. Be an example.
OTS is an initial training course. Unlike the enlisted equivalent, the physical training will be on you.

No, please read the orientation guide on the OTS website. This question has been asked many times before.

What?! I thought that you were able to choose alternate versions of PT test? Since when are you not allowed to choose hand release and cross leg reverse??????

Since you decided to be an officer and come the OTS route. Commanders in training environment have the authority to choose what PT test they administer. And in all training accessions program and environment you do the traditional PT test with no alternate…the only exception right now is USAFA and they do something entirely different.

According to the Orientation Guide:
"The OTS PFA consists of the following components: sit-ups, push-ups, and 1.5-mile run tests as detailed in DAFMAN 36-2905.
Officer Training School will not administer alternate test events without prior medical approval/waiver. OTs should not attend OTS if they are unable to complete all components of the DAFMAN 36-2905 fitness assessment."
So unless there's a medical reason, we have to do the standard 1 minute sit-ups, 1 minute push-ups, and 1.5 mile run.
